Mercury Has Treated Us Well

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

We first changed our car insurance to Mercury when we had two teenage sons to insure and CSAA became too expensive for us to afford.  They stuck by us when one son had several accidents during his college years, and the other totaled two cars.  They even very capably represented one of our sons in court when he was sued, and paid the full amount of the bodily injury claim against him without ever threatening to cancel his policy.  (Thankfully our sons have now grown and greatly improved their driving skills!)  Although Mercury doesn't always have the best customer service when we call them for everyday matters, their rates are some of the lowest we've found and we've been very happy with the way they've handled our claims.

Thieves, warn your friends who have this horrible company

I was a customer for more then 20 years. Without warning they raised my rates 65%. When I called to ask what was up they said it was nothing I did they just raised their rates. So I cancelled my policy and went with Wawanesa (much more coverage for less money) they charged me 10% of what I would have spent for coverage for the remainder of the 6 month policy. Which because of the higher rates was almost $100 extra, for nothing!!!!!! They used to be a great deal but they are now on par cost wise with the largest companies and they sure didn’t mind screwing me quickly. Way to treat a loyal customer. If they lowered there rates to ¼ of what they are now I’d still never use them again!!!

The Best Insurance company to deny claims

Customer service
Rated 1 out of 5

I had insurance with Mercury for four cars and my home for a while. I paid the premiums on time every month. Then I had a one car accident. 25 minutes later, I called the claim department and I was told that I have not paid the last month premium. As I was explaining to the representative that I did not receive a statement, I logged to Mercury web site and made a full payment. The representative told me that payment received after the accident (25 minutes later!!!) and my claim was denied. Yes, 25 minutes. Mercury has a new definition for customer service. Avoid this insurance company. Nothing but a rip off.

Low Cost Auto Insurance

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

I use Mercury Auto Insurance for my car because it offers the best rate and I get great coverage.  I have never had to file a claim (knock on wood) but I feel confident that it would be handled.  I like the coverage I receive, however they aren't superb on customer service.  The only time I have ever dealt with an agent was when I looked for new auto insurance when I moved and I found out Mercury has the best rate.  I was a little disappointed when my rates increased soon after I signed on, but lately they have been steady.  I like receiving my bill and having the option to pay through the mail or online.  They don't give great discounts for simple things like good driving records or safe vehicles, but they do offer good rates.  I would recommend this company if you are just looking for simple coverage.

the worst auto insurance

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

Unfortunately I still have this insurance, but they are horrible.  My husband drove his car off the side of the road in a bad storm in the middle of the night.  His car was not damaged at all, but the tow truck pulled the bumper off his supped up mazda 6.  His pride and joy.  So we had to get it fixed.  My husband had to deploy soon after, and I was assured by the insurance company that they would hassle with the tow company and I would not need to worry about it.  So we get a bill for our deductible and the freaking tow!!  We paid for them to damage the car and then we paid the insurance company to get it fixed.  How does that sound, hmmmm maybe they have it in good with that auto shop?????  I can't wait to change companies!!!  What a rip!!!

After changing to Mercury i got my new policy back with a 'Notice of Cancellation" and to be reinstated i must pay $97.00 with includes a $5.00 reinstatement fee!!!!!!! Policy wrote up incorrectly, i still pay the $97.00 not a good start. Then 8 weeks later i get a "Notice of intent to Suspend" from the DMV telling me that my vehicle registration will be suspended !!!!!!!!!! my insurance is not on record, called Mercury checked out all info.then faxed in the DMV notice. found out there "vin" did not match mine. The "vin" was not entered in correctly at time the policy was written up. Now i can understand why they get the reviews they do. Good Luck

WORST CAR INSURANCE EVER!

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

USE SOMEONE ELSE! I submitted a towing receipt over a month ago, A SIMPLE TOWING RECEIPT, and have still not gotten reimbursed. I have called a multitudes of times as well as emailed. They will say "Yes, it went in the mail this morning." and it will never come. I called again, "Sorry, I'll put it in the mail this morning." Never received it. You can't get anyone to all you back, not even an adjuster. I called AGAIN, "We don't have any claim on file for you." Are you kidding me! Filed the claim again. Called back and they said they sent the check again. I have yet to receive it! This company is a joke! Just think if it was a claim for a wreck. Save your time and sanity, USE SOMEONE ELSE!

They do have the best rates and great service

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

Before getting car insurance I researced and spoke to different people and business I dealt with.  Many with good reviews mentioned Mercury.  I have had them for many years now and notice they have been able to advertise in the media now.  The time I had a small accident and it was my fault they handled it quickly and did not give me a hard time,  the amount that went up on my insurance quickly went down with time.  I also had my young daughter on it when she began driving and our agent made the process enjoyable rather than stressful.  Many places have since called to offer better rates and they have been unable to match what I have with Mercury.

GREAT COVERAGE FOR A HIGH PRICE

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

IVE HAD MERCURY FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS AND HAVE PAID ANYWHERE FROM $200 A MONTH TO $120 A MONTH. DEPENDING ON WHAT WAS ON MY DRIVING RECORD AND NOW IM GOING TO CHANGE TO A NEW INSURANCE HOLDER BECAUSE REALLY WHAT WAS I THINKING PAYING UP TO $200 A MONTH. THEY WENT OVERBOARD WITH THAT BUT A DUMMY LIKE ME AT THE TIME WAS PAYING IT. WELL NOW ITS DOWN TO $120 AND I NOW KNOW I CAN STILL GET GREAT COVERAGE FROM A WELL KNOWN INSURANCE COMPANY WITHOUT THAT HIGH PRICE. ALL IN ALL ITS ONLY BEEN A HEADACHE ON MY POCKET, I DIDNT HAVE A PROBLEM WHEN IT CAME TO AN ACCIDENT I HAD WHERE THE OTHER DRIVER DIDNT ADMIT FAULT. MERCURY TOOK CARE OF IT QUICKLY.

STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM MERCURY INSURANCE**If i could rate Mercury Insurance and specifically this branch in Rancho Cucamonga I would give this place 0 stars. Mercury Insurance Company should be embarrassed by the way they treat those insured under their policies. Mercury is a stain on the Insurance Company Industry and a Cancer in our society (that says a lot since I have lost family members due to Cancer)Mercury, specifically an incompetent Fields Adjuster and her managers (message me for her name), made my family's life a living hell for almost 8 months. They didnt pay living expenses on time (despite numerous e-mails, faxes and even a cry for help over the phone), they low balled my in...

cheap insurance equals cheap quality of care when you need it

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

I have been with Mercury for 20 years (since I got my license at 16).  Between 16 and 18 I got in a lot of accidents!  I noticed that Mercury customer service stinks.  Mercury tries to fix your car using the cheapet parts -- often remanufacturing parts instead of replacing the parts like they should.  This only saves a small bit.

After 18, I went through a long string of no accidents.  Recently, I backed up (supposedly) into someone at a parking lot.  Mercury took my statement and that was it.  They did not even keep in touch to tell me know the investigation was going.  I felt that because the damage to both my car and other car was not extensi...

worst adjuster and manager!

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

i didn't know there were a lot of bad reviews written for mercury insurance.. i've had it for a long time and service was just ok until recently..very long story.. adjuster name Connie Parmer, instead of fighting for me in the case, fought WITH ME! after listening to my side of the story, which by the way, was the 3rd time i've given a statement about it, told me it was my fault and in a really bad way.. it was like she just let me finish my statement, recording it, when she knew already what to say to me.. that it was my fault.. the incident happened 2 months ago.. i reported it immediately.. the first adjuster i spoke to said it was not my fault.. so we did everything already.. i initiall...

Insulting settlement, horrible customer service

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

We have had Mercury for several years now. My brother was T-boned and the other driver was found at fault.  He had to get stitches and the doctor recommended a CAT scan.  As anyone who has been involved in an accident would know, the experience was scary and bothersome. The other driver was covered by Mercury as well and the entire claim process took 3 long months, during which we had to initiate almost every conversation.  Our claim agent did not really advocate for us, and told us to ask the OTHER party's claim agent if we had any questions. The other claim agent (also Mercury) offered my naive brother a next-to-nothing settlement.   The whole experience has been immens...

MERCURY INSURANCE HAS DISAPPOINTED US IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE!

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

In January of 2010, after arriving home from our wedding we found our house flooded from the roof to the floors. Everything from the walls to our furniture was ruined. After making several calls and attempts to get a hold of the claims department someone finally called back 3 days later. They told us to get an clean up crew out so mold would not start and they would be out the next day. The clean up crew showed within 3 hrs but it took Mercury 1 week and 3 people later to show. Not only did it take a week they sent out a 3rd party. After inspecting and have other contractors inspecting our home Mercury finally decided to get back to us in March and only allow their contractor to do the ...
