Smithsonian magazine is intelligent without being 'stuffy', informative without being 'dry', and entertaining without 'dumbing down'.  I find myself reading every article, because the presentation is consistantly interesting and hooks me within a few sentences.  Without looking to be educated, I find myself learning.  The articles present fresh ideas even about topics with which I am well acquainted.  I continue to renew my subscription and gift subscriptions as gifts, year after year.  Through discount magazine services a subscription costs about $12 a year! —… read full review »

This was one of my first "guily pleasures" (I started subscribing to the Smithsonian Magazine when we had a newborn and were on a very tight budget). But my husband fell in love with the magazine as well and alleviated my guilt. We love the well written articles, the beautiful pictures, and the focus on world events.
