Northwest Airlines Review Summary

If you're looking to fly Northwest Airlines, maybe you should think again. Northwest Airlines has received low ratings from nearly all of our reviewers. They report flight delays and cancellations all of the time. Viewpoints members also report they are "disappointed by the service on board" with at least one declaring "I will never fly Northwest again!" Despite the poor marks, some reviewers say Northwest Airlines has a good number of flight options—so if you need a lot of flexibility, perhaps this is a good airline for you. I fly with Northwest all the time and they never let me down. My most recent flight was from MCO to DTW and it went very smoothly. Check in was quick and no hassle, boarding was quick too. The cabin was clean and the seat were comfortable. The flight crew was very professional and pleasant. The pilot...

There is one U.S. airline that I view as, by far, the worst of the bunch: Northwest. It seems to me like every time any passenger-hostile business practice gets introduced into the travel market, it's Northwest that's behind it. They don't care about their passengers, they treat their employees like... review »

My last trip (and it will be my LAST) on Northwest Airlines had me in tears! I had made reservations months in advance and even had seat numbers assigned to my partner and myself. The first leg of the flight was not on time and I worried about the connection. However when arriving at the gate boarding had not even begun yet. My partner took that opportunity to go get some food. She brought it back to the gate and we preceded to eat while a huge line of people waited to board the plane.

As I said we had assigned seats, so I wasn't concerned. Then when we were in line and just about to board we...

I flew Northwest once, with original plans to fly with the airline twice.  Thank goodness the return flight was canceled, because I don't think I could have handled another 4 and a half hour flight with those people.  I was a very obviously 8-month pregnant woman, traveling as the only adult with two small children (a 3 year old and a 16 month old).  I always purchase seats for my children on long flights.  On top of trying to juggle to two children, I had the stroller, the car seat (which is required when purchasing a seat for a child under 2), and the diaper bag filled with in flight entertainment... review »

My wife and I flew NW last summer and it was a nightmare---missing connecting flights and then having to spend the night in a worse than flea-bag motel with no kidding a tv set bolted onto a wooden plank at an angle in a room with no clean towels and we feared for our lives---the food vouchers were minimal and another couple had gotten 3times the vouchers. The next day our flight was again delayed and we waited all day in detroit. The hosptiality suite in the airport would not accept my comment form and two of the kiosks for help had no form. I eventually completed one and got nothing for my troubles.... review »

We had the misfortune of flying the King of Detroit, a City we don't care for either.

We were flying to Vancouver BC for a cruise & RCCL bought the entire package for us.  With US Direct, you have express baggage service to the ship with no wait at the carousel, then express immigration, to the bus which is sealed with tape so we fly through all security check points a the airport & pier.

But getting there was a absolute joke.  First we have to fly across Lake Erie to Detroit's suburban airport.  Half way across we hear a big BOOM.  My seat fly up from the floor.  Then the pilot announces "WE...

My father-in-law got me into riding this airline a few years ago which I had not taken prior to that. I got stayed with the airline for business purposes as much as possible since I was already in their frequent flyer program (worldperks) after flying a few times with my wife. Of all the frequent flyer programs, I liked this one the best. As far as I know, the miles do not expire and the elite bonuses are quite generous. They are part of the SkyTeam alliance which includes Delta and Continental airlines as well KLM (the Dutch airline). We use NWA to fly to Asia since they have a great routes, going...

HORRIBLE COMPANY!!!!

Took a flight from Omaha, Nebraska to Baltimore, Maryland (home at the time):

After a major accident on an interstate prevented me from arriving to the airport on time for my flight, the gate agents refused to put me (and aparently 150 other passengers) on a later flight without first charging a "mandatory" $100 change fee.  I ended up paying the fee, and was put on a flight out the next morning.  I wasn't home, so I had to get a hotel in another city ($200/night).  The next morning, I boarded my flight, and sat on a non-airconditioned plane on the flight line for 3 hours! ...

Prior to our trip, we read some of the reviews here at Viewpoints.  We were worried that the service we'd prevously received from Northwest had deteriorated.  Thank goodness that was not the case.  All 5 of our flights were on time, boarding was prompt and courteous, onboard staff was efficient and kind.  While we miss the food being included in the cost of the ticket, we have become used to bringing our own.  Checking the NWA site daily allowed us to lock in a very reasonable ticket price (much lower than those quoted on Orbitz and other comparison sites).  The price listed was the final...

My family for spring break went to Orlando Florida. On out way back there was a snow storm in detroit. Our flight was canceled but that wasnt the bad part. They left us stranded there so we had to drive 12 hours home with a rental car. But the sad part was we saw a VERY elderly east indian woman who had no idea. A woman gave her a cell phone to call her daughter and she didnt know the number. So this woman went up to the desk to ask if NWA could book her the next flight and the VERY RUDE woman at the desk said. NO CALL THE COMPANY AND YOU DO IT. I went over to scold the woman. Myself and a couple...

I have flown Northwest Airlines at least 25 times over the years and althouth I don't remember having "bad" experiences with them early on, over the last 4 years I have had the worst experiences flying with them than I've had with all the other airlines combined.  Their customer service (all around) is not warm and service oriented - especially the in-flight crews.  I've had several cancelled flights and many late departures.  I also once had a five-hours-on-the-tarmac experience which was horrible.  And not only did I miss my connecting flight, they pretty much left us passengers on our own... review »

I flew on continental express airlines when I flew into Newark, NJ.  It was a smalle plane, but the service was good.  They served a beverage and a snack during the 1.5 hour flight.  I changed my ticket and flew back a couple days early and I got put on a Northwest flight.  I flew NWA out of Manchester to Detoit.  The flights were ontime.  but during this hour flight we only got sodas.  No snack.  Also from Detoit to Little Rock, a 2.5 hour flight we got a beverage service nd no snack.  I was kind of disappointed because on a cheaper flight I had got good service and then I had to pay... review »

Northwest operates one of the largest fleet of Airlines in USA.. They have earned their name and reputation through years of building up and have always been commited to customers..
One of the most important thing I like about them is their frequent flyer programs.. Just within three months I was able to make my first award travel in Northwest... feels good to travel for free :)

My wife and I can speak highly of both US and international travel with NWA.  They have had very good rates and the service has been on target for all of my flights with them so far.  We have connected through the Memphis and Detroit hubs (Detroit offers more flights and amenities) on our wat to Atlanta, Japan, Ohio, Prince Edward Island, and more.
