Never Never again

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

You can forgive an airline if it is a problem that is totally out of their control. But when it is just plain stupidity, that is inexcusable. This past week I was traveling through Detroit on the way to Chicago. At our departure point the flight was an hour late in arriving. We got on the plane and the flight attendant told us that the crew had all arrived at Detroit in route to come to our airport in State College, but they had no plane available for the crew. They finally found a plane for them and come to find they have no ice. So what do they do?  They let the passengers decide if they want to fly back home to State College or cancel the flight because of no ice. We finally arrive i...

I will never fly Northwest again!

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I flew Northwest once, with original plans to fly with the airline twice.  Thank goodness the return flight was canceled, because I don't think I could have handled another 4 and a half hour flight with those people.  I was a very obviously 8-month pregnant woman, traveling as the only adult with two small children (a 3 year old and a 16 month old).  I always purchase seats for my children on long flights.  On top of trying to juggle to two children, I had the stroller, the car seat (which is required when purchasing a seat for a child under 2), and the diaper bag filled with in flight entertainment for my kids.  After people traveling with small children needing ass...

Northwest provided my worst airline experience

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

Scheduled a flight to Spain, traveling with 4 kids and 3 adults.  After 5 hour delay in Minneapolis, flight crew timed out and flight was cancelled.  Northwest offered to reschedule, by sending each of our children, all under age 12, through different airports in Europe, all without an adult (adult flights were offered at different times).  Took 3 hours of wrangling to get the kids safe travel accomodations.  Airline refused to provide a hotel for the overnight wait, stating that all rooms in the city were full, when in fact we found a room easily, it just wasn't on their preferred contract.  After leaving the next day, we had to go through 3 airports and 2 long (3-7...

Worst airline I've ever been on

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

Northwest is the worst airline I have flown on.  I travel domestically at least 4 times a year on various airlines (whichever I can get the cheapest deal on)  Northwest continuously cancels and delays flights.  They are very inconsistent.  My last flight with them got cancelled.  According to them, it was due to weather.  Funny thing was that every other airline was still flying their planes in that weather.  I was offered no reimbursement for that flight or hotel for the two days I was stuck there.   It was a difficult process to even make it back home.  When I finally got rebooked on a flight, there was problems at check-in where they almost didn't let me on the plane.  I will always be very cautious of booking a flight with Northwest again.

Very poor customer service. Rip offs..

Overall
Rated 2 out of 5

It was my first flight from US to India by northwest airlines. I reached the airport and the woman at the luggage check-in counter started rattling about the size of my bag. She brought a tape measure and started measuring and made my 62" linear dimension bag look like it is 65" bag. the way she did it was - she just stretched the tape 1" on each side length, depth and width and made it look like 65". She made me pay 500 $ extra for oversized bags. I must say that I had used the same bags while coming from India to USA on a Northwest airline flight with no problem. But the woman would not listen and just made me the pay the amount... Overall it was the worst day of my life. NWA has ripped me off of my precious money without any reason.

experience of a lifetime

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

Well my flight from our tiny hometown airport was very pleasant. MY flight to Portland was very hot, a was fully booked. My flight home was another experience.  We landed in Minneapolis Airport, I had about an hour 1/2 until my flight home took off. We were informed that our plane had a weight limit and only 26 of the 36 passengers were going to be let board. But they did offer us a hotel, which was scary, yucky!, a food voucher for anywhere in the airport for $13.00. and free airfaire to anywhere in the US. But we were not able to take our luggage from our orig. flight. So had to buy some clean clothes. I was very shocked at how accom. the NWA was. They were not rude or short with anyone. My flight home finally was on a premium flight, so we had a beverage service and lots of open seats !

You gotta fly international!

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I went to Thailand last September and you can really tell a difference in service between domestic and international flights.  Well, that may not be fair because when the domestic flight attendants found out how far I was going, they became super nice to me.  The international flight was awesome though.  They had tvs that you could watch that were on the back of the seat in front of you.  They fed you all the time so you didn't get bored.  I loved it.  It made the 12 hour flight seem so much more bearable!  In all, it takes about a day to get there from Indiana.  So, leaving a good impression on a traveler who is changing to 13 time zones ahead is a big deal!

Travel with Northwest if you like delays and have a lot of money

Overall

HORRIBLE COMPANY!!!!  Took a flight from Omaha, Nebraska to Baltimore, Maryland (home at the time):After a major accident on an interstate prevented me from arriving to the airport on time for my flight, the gate agents refused to put me (and aparently 150 other passengers) on a later flight without first charging a "mandatory" $100 change fee.  I ended up paying the fee, and was put on a flight out the next morning.  I wasn't home, so I had to get a hotel in another city ($200/night).  The next morning, I boarded my flight, and sat on a non-airconditioned plane on the flight line for 3 hours!  We were offered drinks, but at $1.00 a pop (for soda).  Fo...

Would rather fly any other airline

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I have flown Northwest Airlines at least 25 times over the years and althouth I don't remember having "bad" experiences with them early on, over the last 4 years I have had the worst experiences flying with them than I've had with all the other airlines combined.  Their customer service (all around) is not warm and service oriented - especially the in-flight crews.  I've had several cancelled flights and many late departures.  I also once had a five-hours-on-the-tarmac experience which was horrible.  And not only did I miss my connecting flight, they pretty much left us passengers on our own in the airport we were supposed to connect in.  I have not had good experiences with them and I wouldn't fly them again if it was just a case of price.

Customer service agents over the phone can be nasty

Overall
Rated 2 out of 5

I was flying from Boston to Idaho for business, and my cab got stuck in terrible traffic due to traffic lights being knocked out by a storm.  I missed my flight by a few minutes (because they released my seat to someone on standby), and I was told to call the customer service line to reschedule.  I was exceedingly polite to the lady on the phone (I know I need her help more than she needs mine), but she immediately took a nasty tone with me, and told me that I needed to pay an additional $635 to fly out the next day (on a $730 dollar flight).  I asked her if she could waive the fee, and she said no.  I told her I was going to go speak with a representative in person (poli...

ill-organized, non-customer friendly

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

My wife and I flew NW last summer and it was a nightmare---missing connecting flights and then having to spend the night in a worse than flea-bag motel with no kidding a tv set bolted onto a wooden plank at an angle in a room with no clean towels and we feared for our lives---the food vouchers were minimal and another couple had gotten 3times the vouchers. The next day our flight was again delayed and we waited all day in detroit. The hosptiality suite in the airport would not accept my comment form and two of the kiosks for help had no form. I eventually completed one and got nothing for my troubles. We avoid NW at all costs.

Very Poor Elite Program

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I have been loyal NWA customer for 10+ years and have had Platnium status for several years. Last year, due to extreme weather, I was not able to take one flight and due to which I was 1400 miles short of 75000 miles needed for Platinum status. After contacting NWA, I was told that I have flown partner airlines more than NWA. I gave all the needed details that majority of my travel was on NWA (78%) and the segments which are not served by NWA were taken on partner airlines - but no response. I have contacted several times - in fact, I was ready to pay additional money to get the elite status adjusted - but no response.

I had contacted NWA around Dec 20 about the trip cancellation du...

Dying airline, being taken over by Delta

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

Northwest has some good and bad.  Unfortunately, Delta is taking over and forcing its way.

Northwest's meteorological service is well respected.  Follow the red tails was the motto before.  All airlines have fluctuations in service and Northwest is no exception.  However, I've had slightly better service with them compared to some of the major airlines.  Once they damaged my bag and they did not footdrag.  Instead, they gave me a new bag on the spot.

Some good points of the frequent flyer program exists but it's a dying program since Delta is killing it.  So review of it would be very short lived.

I like the Northwest paint scheme but that is just advert...

disappointed in the service while on board

Overall
Rated 2 out of 5

I flew on continental express airlines when I flew into Newark, NJ.  It was a smalle plane, but the service was good.  They served a beverage and a snack during the 1.5 hour flight.  I changed my ticket and flew back a couple days early and I got put on a Northwest flight.  I flew NWA out of Manchester to Detoit.  The flights were ontime.  but during this hour flight we only got sodas.  No snack.  Also from Detoit to Little Rock, a 2.5 hour flight we got a beverage service nd no snack.  I was kind of disappointed because on a cheaper flight I had got good service and then I had to pay more and I got less service.
