British Airways Review Summary

Trying to decide whether or not to fly British Airways? Our reviewers think it’s a good idea. “Great service”, TVs with over 20 channels and a helpful flight crew won accolades. And –if you can believe it- their customer service department is helpful and replies “promptly”. How often do you hear that? Some reviewers, however, complained of poor airport staff in Chicago. Read what others say are the best airlines and worst airlines.

Ready for great service in the skies?
British Airways delivers. This is a top-notch airline with a different attitude than most of the others. Their present ad campaign sums it up nicely: you are a guest, not a passenger.

Connections in London are Preferable

I was looking forward to my flight on British Airways as I had never flown on them before, and had heard wonderful things about them from my friends traveling to Europe.  In February 2008 we flew out of Vancouver, British Columbia to Zurich, Switzerland to visit some friends, with a plane change at...

On the 5th March 2008, I attempted to travel with British Airways from Mumbai to London Heathrow in business class. My ticket was a world traveler plus ticket upgraded to business (at the time of booking) using miles.

Based on my experience from this flight (but also previous flights) I have since learnt the following:

1) Do not fly BA or avoid where possible. Ground staff confirmed that many customers don't like BA due to treatment but fly BA because of great connections!
2) Redemption tickets are bad - you will get treated poorly and staff outside your local exec club will not talk to you.

Flight from Detroit to Amsterdam (and back)was ok.. altho we had to sit somewhere else, because we couldn't sit together. We had a 2 year old at the time... so they moved us to first class. That was a nice move, but the area had not been vacuumed.... At the arrival back home, the luggage was there, but not the stroller (that we had bought a week before we left). They sent the stroller though a company, that simply "dropped off" (literally!!) at the beginning of our driveway. The stroller was damaged, parts were missing, cloth on it was ripped...
It is VERY hard to get ahold of people at BA, so we...

Although the scheduled flight times and connections for a trip from Los Angeles, CA to Milan, Italy, were convenient, the actual departure times of every single flight were delayed by an hour more. My daughter and her two young children and I sat on the plane on the runway for over an hour and a half at Los Angeles, then again on the connecting flight in London to Milan. On arriving in Milan, the children's car seats (the only luggage we checked) were not on hour flight. Employees told us they would be on the next incoming flight, which was also late; but, the seats were not on the flight. ... read full review »

I have just got back from England, visiting family, on British Airways.  I have used them for the past 22 years of visits.

Even though they have cut back on some of the extra special treatment, they used to give us, the quality is still higher than most of the American airlines.

I was able to go on-line before my visit and put in my passport, visa details, etc., and 24 hours before get my seat.  I was able to get one with extra legroom, which was wonderful.

The flights were on time, the food was a dinner and breakfast going out, and lunch and a snack tea, on the way home.

We had individual...

WHY ONE SHOULD NOT TRAVEL BY BRITISH AIRWAYS   Our flight from Delhi to San Francisco via Heathrow started off on a rather bad note with fog delays causing the flight to move from 3:30 AM on the 30th December, to 7:30 AM. However, we were informed of the same by phone, and accordingly changed our plans to reach the airport by around 5 AM. I think I can pinpoint that THIS is probably where the nightmare started.   As we were standing in the check-in line, we were interrrupted by a BA employee who surreptiously informed us that the flight, BA 142, on the 30th December 2008 was further delayed... read full review »

British Airways has always been up to the challenge everytime I have used them to go to Europe.  As my destinations have always varied, it is always a pleasure to experience the level of customer service, technical equipment suited for in-flight entertainment and the goodies in beverages and meals has always made my transatlantic flights a pleasure.  The first time I was in one of their equipments it was such a fresh change and then I remember getting into a JetBlue flight and could not avoid but remember that I had already experience such comfort in a flight.  With the difference of a "few"... read full review »

I had a bitter experience with british airways. I purchased a ticket with BA but was not allowed to board the flight since I had no transit visa to UK. My travel agent suggested me to go ahead with a different airways and I would get credit for this ticket. When I returned, BA had marked me as "No Show" and denied any credit. How can you say "No Show" when you didn't allow me to board the flight?

This is their policy and it sucks. I would never ever fly BA even if they offer free tickets. I would also not recommend anybody if you are not sure of your transit visa requriement.

British Airways provides a great service when you are flying for many hours.  My flight was about 6 hours to London and they provided all of the beverages (including alcohol) you wanted, plus 2 meals.  They also had about 20 TV channels playing various movies and TV shows that you could watch.  The flight seemed like 2 hours!  Staff was also very nice.

Well, it seems that BA's already has quite a reputation for losing luggage.  It turns out they have the appaling 46% higher rate for this than any other airline!  I have already had a bad experience with them several years ago and I swore I would never fly BA again, but still ended up on their flight because they are in partnership with my primary carrier. Sure enough, a short flight from Paris to Heathrow was enough to make my 5 day trip to a conference in London miserable.  The luggage didn't arrive, which may happen to anyone; but for the following two days they kept telling me that I would...

British Airways is the most realistic airline I've ever traveled on. The food is really delicious. If you finished your food and you're still hungry they let you have any extra food. The TV shows in the plane don't come on until two hours after take off and sometimes when the channel signal goes you get really bored.

When you're in business class in British airways the fun never stops. You get the most delicious food and can order anything on the menu any time you want for free. They also give complementary orange juice...

I have flown on many airlines and I have to say that Brittish Airways provides the best level of service, most comfortable seating,  & best food in coach class that I have found.

We flew from Seattle to Edinburgh, Scotland in 2007, this was my first international flight. The flight attendants were exceptionally friendly - never once did they act as you were bothering them by asking for something. As a matter of fact, at one point in the night I pushed the call button because I was thirsty and wanted some water. The flight attendant brought water without me even asking for it.

One of the little things...

My husband and I had a very bad experience caused by a 2-hour flight delay leaving Heathrow on British Airways. The flight crew kept us informed and we felt confident we could make our connecting flight in Chicago.

The helpful BA flight crew were the total opposite of the crew who met our flight, unloaded our bags, etc. We ended up having to spend the night in a nearby hotel, re-book a flight at our cost, and endure other related costs (meals, phone calls,  ground transportation, etc.)

I saved every receipt, took photos of bags that were tagged wrong,  and documented the entire experience...
