**NetGear ProSafe(TM) GS105 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch** This product not only is a premium ethernet switch, it is also used by AT&T U-verse installers as a key piece of equipment to allow for more than the 4 ethernet connections the Residential Gateway they offer has. I would recommend this switch for anyone who wants to have the availability of 7-8 ethernet connections. - Connects up to 10x faster than Fast Ethernet for maximum performance - Up to 60% lower power consumption - Auto power-down mode saves energy when port is unused - Simple to combine Fast Ethernet and Gigabit devices in your network - Plug-and-play installation delivers ease of use - ProSafe 5- and 8-port Gigabit Desktop Switches connect your network with the dual advantages of performance and convenience - Fast, auto-switching Ethernet connection integrates 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps devices into your network - Supports Windows(R) and Macintosh(R) platforms - LEDs make it easy to monitor link, speed, and activity - AutoUplink(TM) technology automatically adjusts for two common types of cables - Compact metal case for desktop or wall mounting Information can be found here: http://www.netgear.com/products/business/switches/unmanaged-desktop-switches/GS105.aspx

Gigabit speeds to share throughout

So i recently realized that the router I have only has 4 ethernet port on it and I need at least 6. In comes the NetGear ProSafe(TM) GS105 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch. This switch helped me add another 3 useable ethernet ports to my network in a jiffy. Only 3 were added because the ethernet cable going from the router to the switch takes up 2 port. I really like the fact that the switch is equipped to handle gigabit speeds. Most of the devices on my network are already equipped with gigabit interface cards so I was able to use this right away. The switch has been doing a great job. There are no noisy fans and the unit stays nice and cool all on its own. I also like that the NetGear ProSafe(TM) GS105 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch is made by netgear. I have had a few of their products in the past and have never been let down by them. I guess I can add another one to the list now that this switch is living up to its expectations.

Good switch

I use this switch in my home network and it works great in spitting my internet connection between my machines. I have a wireless network setup in my home but I also have a machine that works as a server and a couple of other desktop machines that stay in he same location there dont need to utalize the wireless network and use the ethernet to connect to the internet. Plugging the ethernet cables into the switch is easy and doesnt degrate the speed of the internet connection between computers which is a strong bonus in my opinion. I also like this brand in general, it is a good stong brand and I have had no issues with it thus far. This switch makes things alot easier for me in setting up the network in my home, creating a connection from machine to machine and connecting a few different machines to the interet via one internet connection. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a small easy to setup switch.

Compact switch that does the job well

This little Netgear GS105 5-port gigabit Ethernet switch does the job well. I have no problems with it and the performance that it gives does well. Not all switches are the same. Some crashes, and some do not give the performance speed despite that it says it's gigabit. The Netgear switch hardly gives me problems, and the performance speed is close to the gigabit. The device is solidly built, and the frame feels like metal. This is far better than those switches today that have plastic covers, though the edges maybe a bit rough so it's possible that you can scratch something with its side. All the ports are on the front, along with a status bar which shows which port is in use (active), and what speed they're connected at. Each switch has two lights, which one is only lit to show whether that port supports 1 GB, or 100 MB. I never had any problems connecting the cables to it. Overall, I recommend this product for a simple plug and play switch.
