I would buy this product again and again

I have had this set for 11 years now. The only thing I had to replace is drain pump. The reason for that is leaving change in pockets and the lil plastic piece had broken. I would Only buy a Maytag Product for now on..

10 Long Hard Years

5

So this marks 10 years that I have owned and thoroughly abused this washer/dryer combo. I'm having a hard time seeing where anyone had ever had issues due to a lack of capability. I can understand the occasional bad unit getting through QC and maybe a persons own water source causing a tinge to fabric but I can tell you that this thing has been a work horse in every sense. The have survived 3 moves and a family of 6 for the past 10 years and never given me grief. We're talking no less then two loads a day, 365 days a year. I would say they have seen 4000 loads of laundry and until this week when it became evident that the dryer heater may be getting weak, there have been ZERO issues. Heck they are running as I write this. So if you find yourself reading this and are in the market for a set keep this in mind. If you can find a refurbished or less used set it will be well worth the money spent. As far as the Con being noisy? It's pretty hard to keep 25 pounds spinning at 1200 RPM quiet so that's a given.

I'm not too thrilled with my Maytag Neptune Front Load Washer.

3

I'm not too thrilled with my Maytag Neptune Front Load Washer. It does have a large capacity and my clothes come out clean however after using the washer several times, I've developed mildew all over the seal on the front loading door. I called the store where I bought the washer and the manager told me "he gets this call all the time and you need to put bleach in the washer at least every week." Well, I don't use bleach that often and even when I do, the mildew remains. I even tried scrubbing the seal with bleach to no avail. As much money as I paid for this washer, I don't expect to see an ugly mildew stain every time I open the washing machine door! Ease of Use The washer is very easy to use and there are enough settings for different washer settings to clean different types of clothes without being overly confusing. Durability I haven't owned the washer long enough to rate a durability factor.

Not bad, but not as great as i was expecting

3

When I purchased this washer for a lot more money than I ever thought I'd spend on a washer, I was so excited! However, the excitement did not last too long. What I love about the machine is I can get a king size comforter in it and it will come clean. I can get 5 mattress pads and a bottom sheet in it at one time as well. It does clean well, but I wasn't satisfied with the noise, a bit noisier than I expected. I also wasn't happy with how it held water and grew mildew. All you have to do is quickly scrub that with a brush and bleach, but it's still not what I would have expected for the amount of money spent on it. It ran really well for a while, but broke down shortly after the warranty was up. Getting someone to repair it took longer than I expected, they said they had problems getting the part they needed. Once it was fixed though it was back to normal washing condition with no further problems.

Looks Expensive but Quality Isn't That Rich

3

This washer is touch screen and has a clear bubble-like door, giving it the look of being an expensive washer. However, the quality of the washer isn't quite up to par with this. I feel like this washer does not get clothes as clean as they could be but on the other hand, it saves water which saves you money. At the time, my household had 8 people and this washer managed to handle all of our laundry needs in regards to swiftness of each load's completion. Energy Efficiency It saves energy and saves water. I did see a noticeable decrease in my utilities bill. Performance The down-side of this washer's water saving attribute is that the clothes do not seem to get quite as clean. Also, the washer moves about as it washes, especially in heavy duty or spin cycle types. Ease of Use I really liked the touch screen feature and the many options available to select for how you would like your clothes to be washed. I'm the kind of person who is very meticulous about how my clothes are washed and the many setting allow me to set it according to exactly what I'm washing (i.e. heavily soiled items, whites, delicates, etc.). Unfortunately, you might have to put heavily soiled items in for a second try because the first time likely won't do the trick. Design I don't know that I like the washer being a front loader. I don't think that it makes anything any easier and if it weren't for the fact that it is front loading, there wouldn't be the problem with the black rubber on the interior side of the door (see my remarks about this under "Durability"). Durability This is a hard one. The black rubber ring that goes on the inside of the washer door frequently comes off which is a MAJOR pain. On the other hand, this washer was able to handle the laundry of a household of 8 people for several years (I lost count).

Not Your Typical Washer

2

will be brief had a Maytag Neptune front load, a previous model, the one with the class action law suit that Maytag thumbed it's nose at everyone on. However in dealing with all the woes of that machine I worked a swap plus some boot with a local dealer for MAH8700A. Had to do something, get something out of the other junker. Let me start with the pros, that will not take long. Nice dispenser design, fit and finish is good. Controls are easy to reach. The cycle selections are good, and I like the pause option, that can double as a soak. The was quality is excellent (for awhile). Washer is quite in the wash mode. For the cons, I have already had to buy a replacment knob, but that isn't the real problem. On my other Maytag front load the issue was standing water left in the drum, which in turn would cause mold to grow. This units new design has remedied that problem to some degree, but for some reason I still get mold. It is the nasty black mold that forces it to be cleaned every two weeks. Another problem I can't fiqure out is that the bleach dispenser is holding bleach somewhere and if I follow a white load with a dark load they get ruined. Now after I wash a white load with bleach I have to run an empty cycle to clear the bleach for a dark load. The machine worked fine for the first few months and that's when I started living the some of the same problems over again. The spin cycle is quiter than my older model but still very noticeable. I now have the machine up for sale. I am done with Maytag. My experience with them on this unit is no different than with on my last unit. The customer service will make you feel like you are the problem. It is incredulous that they would do that given all the issues they have had with thier machines, but they absolutely remain blamefull of the customer.

If I could do it all over again, I would NEVER buy this washer!!

1

The initial features of this washer seem to be very attractive: easy, front-loading design, energy conscious water usage, large capacity, and many customizable settings. However, I have owned this washer for five years and it is on its last leg. The inner seal surrounding the front door harbors mold/mildew; a slimy black ring of substance that is almost impossible to remove, causing a terrible odor that lingers in your wash. It requires frequent wipe-downs with a bleach-soaked washcloth in order to somewhat mask the smell. The water usage is minimal, which is designed to save money, but in the end the clothes never seem to come out very clean because there is hardly any water used in the wash cycle. The clothes essentially are tossed around in a small amount of soiled water. The pump is poorly designed, subsequently allowing all sorts of foreign objects (pennies, bobby pins)  to become lodged in it, which has required me to manually take apart the pump assembly (thanks to watching how-to videos found on the internet) and cleaning out the objects myself. The machine is extremely noisy when in the spin cycle, even "walking" itself out of position in the laundry room as it gets thrown off balance so easily. ***Run, do not walk*** away from any opportunity to own this machine! The repair bills are costly and inevitable; the machine is **nothing **that it claims to be. Furthermore, there have been several recalls issued in the past on this product, yet Maytag still sells it.

A Lemon

We purchased this unit in 2005, and are very relieved that we also purchased the extended warranty that is valid until summer 2011.  The first year the main circuit board burned out. The machine performed well until. 2008.  Since 2008 we have had 11 service calls for numerous and reoccurring problems.  The machine had a leak that only after Maytag sent out repair persons from three separate companies for a total of 8 service call was finally fixed last year (2010).  In addition to this problem, the locking mechanisme on the washer broke, the detergent and fabric softener dispenser had to be replaced twice.  The dispenser cover they gave us does not fit correctly and has how fallen off.    We have argued with Maytag who is now owned by Whirpool as I understand and they are unwilling to replace the machine.  This is my second Maytag washer, the first was a good product unfortunalty this is also my last purchase from what used to be a quality product.  If you are going to purchase this machine, I would highly recommend you purchase the extendend warranty.

Mold problem with this model

2

I have not found this washer up to MayTag quality.  I think since they've been bought out they are no longer the high quality that I was used to in the past. The rubber gasket originally didn't have a drain hole, water would sit and had a bad mold problem.   After fighting with MayTag for a very long time, they finally admitted it was a design error and they replaced it with one that has a hole. Now this one no longer drains and the black mold is back again.  I was told I needed to wipe it out after every use.  I told MayTag I didn't pay that much money to have to wipe up water that should drain.  They don't care. Where the soap, bleach and softener go it has started to rust out and big pieces are breaking off. I will definitely investigate other brands before purchasing a new washer.  This is no longer the quality I want for that much money paid.

Maytag Neptune makes lives easier, saving time with big loads.

3

We bought the Maytag Neptune when we were building a new home.  The price was steep, but our family was extremely busy and I was tired of the constant laundry loads and easy to unbalance top loader that we had.  I sprung for the front loading Maytag Neptune because of the large capacity.  There is a problem with the hose on the back.  It does come undone on occasion and cause leaks, but it is an easy fix.  We use vinegar or baking soda every few loads to cut down on the typical smells of a front loader.  Every once in a while, I do use clorox wipes to clean out the rubber seal and front trap.  Also, you need to leave the door open after doing several loads to dry it out.  All of these things cut down on any odor.  Despite the two times that we've had load issues, it cleans clothes well, fast, and a lot of them at one time.  It is somewhat noisy, but still quieter than our old top loader.  Also, any unbalance is easily fixed by adjustable feet on the bottom.  We didn't spring for the laundry drawer underneath as a base.
