Good for the price

By

Comments about Magellan Portable GPS Navigator:

We've owned this GPS for several years. It has been a life saver and definitely a stress reliever. We found that some of the maps needed to be updated so we've been led to the wrong place a few times. Overall, it is a very handy, user-friendly device.

Processing Speed
Speed varied by location but we never really had problems with speed. It was reasonablly paced.

Map Quality & Accuracy
Several maps were out of date we were led to dead ends etc. However, it was always easy to re-route

Ease of Use
Very user friendly

Easy to use, great value!

By

Comments about Magellan Portable GPS Navigator:

this product was very easy to set up, also nice bright screen. We usually do not use the dashboard mount unless there is a passenger in the front seat. I like the feature that lets you return to the address book and seek further sights. We use it whenever we leave town, but have been cautioned that it will lead you through dead ends and road construction. the dash plug-in feature makes it convenient to power up and I can unplug it easily.

Good GPS for the price

By

from Thousand Oaks, CA

Comments about Magellan Portable GPS Navigator:

I bought this for my dad for a christmas present. Looking around for the right GPS was a tasking process however, I read several reviews on the great functionality of this one.  THe Magellan Roadmate 1412 GPS includes a car charger, usb connection, and mounts for windshield and dash. This feature is extremely good because in several cases of buyers, it gives them the option of mounting in preferred locations. The battery life of this GPS is not outstanding at all, however most of the time, my dad just uses it connected with car power so this isn't too big of a problem. The screen of the GPS unit is very bright, however, scrolling and selection is sometimes difficult. The GPS unit includes text to speech, which is sometimes accurate to the actual street names. Other times, it pronounces it wrong. The GPS receiver is built into the unit itself and is sometimes slow to start. When it is primed, the GPS unit functions very well.

Magellan RoadMate is a useful device for travelers

By

from Spokane, WA

Comments about Magellan Portable GPS Navigator:

The Magellan RoadMate is a good GPS and was the first GPS device that I owned.  I found that it was pretty easy to learn how to use.  This device has some useful features too, which can be helpful if you are trying to navigate your way around an unfamilar town or neighborhood.  There are points of interests that you can select to be displayed on the map (such as gas stations, banks, etc).  In addition, you can enter in an address or you can search for a location by category.  If you are looking for a library, restaurant or a shopping mall near your current location, the Magellan RoadMate has a pretty good directory of these categories.  The downside of this device is that it will occasional freeze up.  This may be due to heavy cloud cover, or if you try pressing too many buttons too fast.  Another nice feature about this GPS is that it gives you options when calculating your route.  You can avoid highways, avoid toll roads, and a few other options.  This is really a good feature when traveling to unfamiliar cities.

Never be lost again with Magellan Roadmate 1412

By

from Dawson, GA

Comments about Magellan Portable GPS Navigator:

My daughter has been begging for a GPS for months.  Since neither one of us has any sense of direction, I finally broke down and bought her one.  I bought the Magellan Roadmate 1412.  I have been able to use her GPS several times since I bought it and for someone who is somewhat technically challenged it is really easy to use.  It has lots of features.  I especially like the voice directions.  The Magellan Roadmate not only shows you a map with the directions but has a voice guiding you all the way.  I like the fact that the voice directions gives the street name as it is giving you the directions.  I also like the feature where if you are out of town you can put in a specific resturaunt and it will find several of them near you.  It will also locate and give directions to gas stations, hotels, motels, and hospitals, etc.  It has really been great having.  My daughter even uses it in town to fin quicker ways to get to the places she is going.  I like it so much I'm going to buy me one.

Good size,clarity,options on this Magellan

By

from Hoosick Falls, NY

Comments about Magellan Portable GPS Navigator:

*As a newcomer to GPS Navigation, I found this Magellan 1412 to be easy to use and set up. If I took a different route it would re-calculate for me. I purchaced it refurbished at an excellent site. Unfortunately the manual and AC connector did not come with it. Through family, CD (included) and web sites, I feel comfortable I can get anywhere I want. Fairly well updated maps.*

Handy and a great stress reliever.

By

from Gillett, WI

Comments about Magellan Portable GPS Navigator:

After taking a weekend getaway with my husband last fall I decided we need a GPS when we ended up going the wrong way on a one way street.  Since we got the Magellan it has been allot less stressful with it's clear concise directions.  The only thing I have bad to say is the touch screen is a little sensitive I have a light touch and it still some times double enters a key.  But easy to read and the volume is loud enough for my husband who has worked around machinery for over 25 years and has trouble hearing.  All and all very happy with this model.

Maps have not fully been completed and Customer Support terrible

By

from Orland Park, IL

Comments about Magellan Portable GPS Navigator:

This product, Magellan RoadMate 1412 has been released without the full map install. I have called Customer Support twice since receiving the unit and they have no help for the difficulties I have had with the unit. I live in the Chicagoland area and was told on the initial call in January that the maps within the Chicago area and parts of Texas are experiencing trouble and that the issue was being sent to the support team for resolution. I again called, two weeks later, and was told that the product was released without the full map project from their vendor being completed. I was given no work around or ablility to download maps from other Magellan devices that I know to be working in my area. When I asked what could be done for me to help resolve this issue I was told to be patient and when the vendor was completed with the map surveys the device would be fully operational.

Luckily, after explaining the difficulties I have had Magellan the company I purchased the product from was willing to take the device back and offer me a full refund. Magellan does not back the products they support and put a product on the market that is not fully functional. It is irresponible for a company to put a product that is not functional on the market and not offer their customers a work around when difficulties arrise.

I really like this GPS device.

By

from Jasper, IN

Comments about Magellan Portable GPS Navigator:

I really like this GPS device. The options are easy to use, and the touch screen is a great thing to work with. Instead of having to type in the entire word, it will give you options on what you want so you don't always have to type the entire word. I would recommend this to anybody.
