I bought this vacuum for $110 refurbished on Ebay. I have had it for 5 years now. It only had the hose and the other attachment you use for carpets. I use the hose for stairs and vacuuming under beds and other things. It is a beast to lug up and down the stairs, but it does a great job for me. You have to be careful not to suck up things that you should not, with 3 kids I have to keep a closer eye because of small toy pieces. I also have 2 cats and it picks up so easily.

Kirby makes a vacuum for life

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

Kirby vacuums are for life. They are not disposible products like many others on the market. I have had my Kirby for 10 years now. It vacuums just as it did when I bought it 10 years ago. The Kirby comes with many different attachments along with a carpet cleaning attachment. I have not used the carpet cleaning attachment, but I have used all the other attachments. I vacuum my wood floors using the attachments. I have also used it to vacuum tile, furniture and drapes. It is a wonderful do everything vacuum. It also comes with a lifetime warranty. The downside to the Kirby is the price. They are really expensive, however it is a vacuum for life. This is a vacuum you buy once and you never buy another vacuum. I think it is worth it to pay a little more, get a great product and not fill our landfills with vacuums.

Kirby G4

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

Kirby Vacuum G4.. We bought this vacuum brand new from a sales person who came to our house about 12 years ago and this vacuum is still going strong! We have had to replace a few parts on it but it is still performing just as good today as it was the day I bought it! When I bought this vacuum the sales guy shot me the standard Kirby price of well over $1000 to buy the entire system but it must have been a good day for me, off day for him because when he left our house I had the vacuum for under $300

I like this vacuum because the bags are the micro filter bags so no dirt comes out when you vacuum.&; We have 2 dogs and 2 cats and as you can imagine we have LOTS of pet hair, this vacuum picks...

Look for a nice used one. They are a little over priced. My G4 listed for $1800 and I negotiated the sell for $1000 with a shampooer.

Solid, old-fashioned sweeper built to WORK and LAST

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I got my Kirby from my mother, who fell for the sales pitch from the "nice young man" who showed up at her door one morning. Turns out it was too much vacuum for her; the machine is heavy, and she lives in a tiny little house that's packed with furniture. I traded her my little light plastic Panasonic, and now we're both happy. The major downside of the Kirby is that it's heavy. Heavy, heavy. But it's built to last, and there aren't many appliances nowadays that can claim that. The Kirby does a fabulous job as a vacuum, plus it's got lots of fun attachments if you've got the time and patience to sit down with all the parts and the manual. The carpet shampooer does a great job and it's a lot ...

Overall

I bought this sweeper about 4 maybe 5 mnths ago and the people that did the demonstration about it made it sound like it was heaven in your house, but really...its not. Dont get me wrong.. it does work and gets a lot of stuff out of your carpet that other vacumes wont, but it is so heavy and it is loud and it has a million atachments that are just rediculious!!! i dont know about you.. but when i want to use the hose on my vacume i dont want to have to take my whole sweeper apart to do it .. it would be nice just to pull the hose off and use it! and the steam cleaner....oh jeeze! its a peice of crap!! it is a complete waste of money and energy! i was so excited about getting it that the next...

What a workhorse!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I purchased my Kirby vacuum cleaner about 15 years ago. I have always had multiple pets, and as a result, pet hair is a major issue. Previously, I had to purchase a new vacuum cleaner about every 4 years (if it lasted that long), because it would stop vacuuming up the hair adequately. I finally decided to invest in a Kirby, and it is one of the best investments I have ever made. In a perfect world, could it be improved? Sure. But the most important feature of the vacuum for me is that it picks up everything off the carpet. This vacuum works as good as the day I purchased it. It is heavy, and you have to add the attachments (they aren't stored on the machine). It's a little inconvenient to add the hose and change the bags, but I will trade that for it's powerful suction. At this point, I have 3 children, 5 cats and a dog. My Kirby does such a good job, I can't imagine purchasing another brand!

this vacuum sucks!

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

I have a Kirby G4. I have had it about a year and I like it. I actually got it for free from a friend who was getting rid of it. It has very strong suction and does a great job on edges against a wall or whatever. Also, it is self propelled so the fact that it's so heavy doesn't matter as much. I still usually push it anyway because it seems to do a better job though. It has a headlight on the front which is ok I guess, if you like to vacuum in the dark lol The only things I don't like is that it is so big and bulky, it can be hard to carry around if you have back problems or anything. Also it doesn't fit well in tight spaces, under beds, etc because of the size. And the parts are expensive....

Longest lasting vacuum I have ever owned!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I bought this vacuum in 2001 at a pawn shop. It came with the shampoo attachments. It's now been 9 years. I use this vacuum daily. I'm a mom of 5 children. The best feature it has is when something breaks you can replace it and not have to buy a new vacuum. It gets carried by the kids up and down the stairs at least 3 times a week. We all know that kids are rough, especially boys. The only repairs we have done since purchase is replace the cord and fan. It has been cleaning and serviced once! It is easy to use, almost drives itself. It easily gets close to the walls without needing attachments. Having children that use it, they never pick up things like paper clips, socks etc and the worst thing that will happen is the belt breaks. This is the best value around!

Kirby G4 Upright built to last

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

Built to last. I would absolutely love this vacuum, if it wasn't for the fact that you have to have a separate hose attachment, that you have to change everytime you need it. For me this is way too much hassle since I like to clean drapes, around corners, baseboards, under cabinets regularly. I need a hose attachment at least two times for each room I vacuum, so this wastes alot of time. However for those of you who don't do a throrough cleaning or don't mind changing attachments this is a great vacuum. Besides the fact that it does pick up well (though it doesn't pick up animal hair too well), I love the fact that the bottom part of the vacuum is not plastic like my dyson, but metal. This vacuum is built to last because I have the habit of banging my vacuum around and being rough with them, but this Kirby can take it! It will last a good long while, after ten years and still good suction power...yeah for Kirby!

Very good vacuum, it outlasts most of the other brands.

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

At first I was like the rest of you thinking why would I pay this much for a vacuum cleaner? Then I saw the dirt in my floor through a salesman coming to my door showing me what was on my carpets, and then on my bed, and then even on my pillows. I was horrified. He cleaned the carpets and the bed clothes, and there was over a inch thick of dust on the carpets and on the bed pillow there was about half of inch of dirt and dust mites collected in the vacuum cleaner sample. I was so embarrassed. The guy that came to my home said that he has seen far worse. That most vacuums do not pick up what they are leading their buyers to believe. I had been paying for vacuums that did not work. So the...

The Kirby Generation 4 vacuum does everything but the dishes.

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

The Kirby Generation Four vacuum is an amazing piece of equipment. It is built to last a lifetime and it does just about anything you could ever want a vacuum cleaner to do. Besides vacuuming the carpets, it shampoos carpets, vacuums hard floors. turns into a hand held for blowing leaves, cleans your couch, it has has a long hose attachment for stairs or cars, a crevace attachment, a pet hair attachment, a dusting attachment, and more. I've had mine for over a decade and I've never had any problems with it. The bags are easy to change and it has a microfilter system. This vacuum cleaner can be moved with a single finger because it is semi-self propelled. It sort of self rolls and all you really have to do is guide it.

The vacuum has several cons. It is extremely heavy to lift. It is quite bulky and needs a lot of storage space. It is somewhat difficult to change to some of the attachments. The price was really high too.

I didn't realize what i was getting!!!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

My mother-in-law told me she was fed-exing her old Kirby vacuum to us. Why would i want an old vacuum cleaner??? All I can say now is that its the best gift i have ever received!!! I have never used a vacuum with the power of a kirby. we have had it for over two years now, and never have to buy bags. You just empty it from the bottom and there is a 'scraper' to scrape the bag clean. I finally learned how to use the attachments, and it really makes couches and chairs look new and fresh. We had to buy a new belt, and i was cringing at thinking how much it would cost, but it was only $3.25!!! There are a lot of other features i have yet to utilize. The attachments pick up dirt better than any b...

It sucks good!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I used to have a hard time telling door to door sales people no so obviously I bought the Kirby G4. It was about 10 or 11 years ago and it was about $1200 I believe. We made payments on it and eventually paid it off. For a while I thought I made a bad decision in paying so much for a vacuum. But about a year ago the fan housing unit busted because my kids thought it would pick of everything (which it basically does but over time it realizes it is being abused lol). I borrowed a friend's vacuum and it picks up NOTHING compared to the Kirby! I couldn't afford to get it fixed for a while so I suffered using the "other" and luckily we had taken out our carpet in most of the house.

Just a few days ago I took it to be repaired (a place I would NOT recommend- Kirby Company of Port Huron, MI). I paid $88.00 to have it repaired and the first thing I did was vacuum and loved it. It was so worth it!

So, if you ever wonder what the big deal is.... try your vacuum and then try Kirby!

The Kirby G4 is an awesome machine!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

My Kirby G4 is at least 10 years old, and although it may be built like a Sherman tank, it just keeps on sucking!  Wouldn't trade it for any that I've seen yet!  In the past 10 or so years, I've replaced the belt a few times, and the wheels once...other than that, it's been pretty much maintenance free...and I use it very regularly.  I have no complaints.  It's been extremely reliable.  I even use it to vacuum my gararge!
