Garmin StreetPilot c340 Portable GPS Navigator

Summary

The StreetPilot c340 provides in-car navigation that is simple for anyone to use directly out of the box. After selecting a destination from the user-friendly touch screen interface, Garmin's text-to-speech feature tells users the name of the street, when to turn, and in what direction. If you miss your turn, the c340 automatically calculates a new route to the destination. Notification of traffic delays is a c340 option that lets drivers see congested areas via a color-coded map. This feature lets users avoid traffic by simply pushing a button that will calculate a new route. This traffic awareness is made possible via the new Garmin GTM 10 FM TMC receiver that connects to selected Garmin street navigation products. The GTM 10 receives digital data from specific FM broadcast stations in select major metro areas throughout the United States and Europe.

We wouldn't travel without our old faithful Garmin c-340

There are some disadvantages such as having to plug it in and removing it but that is also some of the pluses. You can move it to another car, It is dependable, updating takes a little time and cost but it is so worth it. Processing Speed It works well but you do have to learn how to put in the address. It doesn't do well with partial addresses and you have to know if it is a street, avenue or other. Map Quality & Accuracy The coloring in the map is great. Not so harsh it bother you at night but bright enough that the I can still read it if the sun is coming in through a window. We live close to a area that the streets are difficult to travel on. Lots of dead ends, canals to cross and streets that stop at one point and change names .Even the navigational system in our new car gets confused but our "old faithful" Garmin" finds our way for us. We haven't downloaded the newest maps but it seems to find it's way better than the new one. Ease of Use We had to get used to making sure we had the complete address in it and this unit is really easy to program. I would highly recommend this unit and we do take it with us when we travel. We have found it is so much easier to use than the new one in our car, probably because we are used to it but we don't want to be trying to figure out how to use one we aren't familiar with in a traffic area so we just take ours with us.

Good but could use some improvement.

I gave this a good rating as it does bring me to my destination. However, I find it annoying to always have to separately put in the city, than the street number and then finally, the street. It also has a problem with numbers streets as New Jersey has lots of numbered streets. Processing Speed This is by far the best feature of the product. It loads the information from the satellite in less than one minute, which saves time for me. Map Quality & Accuracy The quality is crystal clear but is not alwys accurate. Sometimes it does not find destinations that are on short streets (streets that are usually no moe than one block long). Also has a problem with streets that are numbered, such as Highway 35, etc. Ease of Use You have to go through too many channels before actually getting to the point of punching in the address. It would be much easier to just put in all the information on one screen.

Great GPS for the price.

Ok, here's the deal...I purchased this unit after several days of research. I found that Garmin has good customer service as well as  great products. I know that this unit is marked as "discontinued" on the Garmin website but if you buy it now, it does come with the most up to date maps (2008 NT version). I've used it a bunch of times with no issues at all. The windshield mount has been great. I've read that some people have had the windshild mount fall off. I really don't think it's possible and here is why, If you stick the bracket on the windshild, it sticks really well but you have to flip a switch that sucks the suction cup really tight. I think people are not flipping that switch which isn't giving you the proper suction. The battery life is said to be 8 hrs but i haven't had to test this out yet. The charger goes from your cigarette lighter and plugs into the windshield mount directly. Here is the cool part.... Download the POI Loader from the Garmin website.(POI is the point of Interest loader). Do a search for different poi's and load them to your Garmin. The coolest one i found was the Red Light Camera POI. Anytime i came to a red light with a camera, It warns me with an audible alert. This has saved me several times. The other cool option is allowing you to change the Splash screen when the unit starts up.(you need to download ximage from Garmin). So far.... This unit has been very good to me.

Great little gadget if you are directionally challenged like me!

This device was easy to set up and I LOVE the way it shows the upcoming streets on the road.  Whenever I spot a place I need to stop along the way, it automatically recalculates what turns I need to make to get back on track.  I've always had problems with "left" and "right", but this has arrows pointing me in the right direction!  I've spent many hours driving around lost during the past couple of months, and I am certain that this will always help me to find my way and will probably pay for itself in fuel savings!  The way it works is terrific...it tells and shows the turn to take, tells you how many miles you will travel on this road, then REMINDS you just before you near your next turn that it is approaching.  I never want to be without it again.

has all the important features and is very easy to use

This GPS was purchased as a gift for my significant other, but I really love it's ease of use myself.  After reading that cars with built in GPSs have lower resale value because of how quickly technology changes, I particularly wanted one that was portable, not too expensive, of good quality and most of all, easy to use.  This one met all my requirements perfectly and has even exceeded expectations.

Best thing I've bought in a long time!

This thing is fantastic.  I have not gotten lost sonce I bought this.  Very easy to use.  So good I'm buying it for my mother who is not very electronic savvy. It has 6 million points of interest.  WHich is great becasue I live in a far away state that isn't very interesting to the rest of the nation when developing new things.  MAINE.  So being able to find the smallest of school is a great thing.  We travel all over the state for one sport or another and this seems to find every school we are looking for.  And it tells you when you will reach your destination....becasue it can calculate your speed as well.  So you know in advance if you are going to be late...and can call ahead.  I would recommend greatly.

i save about four hours a week driving time with this device

I received the Garmin c340 this Christmas.  I am not the best person at having inate direction sense or reading a map.  This device guides me where i need to go.  ITgives me step by step instructions whil also listing the street name i am turning on.  The brittish accent. selection is much better at mastering our unique pronounciation of new england streets and towns.  Sometimes this device is slow to calcuate so you may miss a turn form time to time.  otherwise i couldn't be happier

I would be lost without it!

I love my Garmin GPS.  I'd be completely lost without it, especially travling all over the place and living in a new location.  Living in a new place, it's extremely important to have a reliable GPS that can find me the address I need.  The only complaints that I have are sometimes it doesn't take me the most direct route (like around the interstate versus on the interstate) and a few times it can't find the address, but this may be because I haven't updated my map since I got it.  I love the turn by turn directions and that it tells me what street I will turn on and when. My husband loves that we can change the lanugage and voice on the Garmin as well. We fondly refer to ours as Jill because that's the name for the English version.  I love that we can follow the map if we can't exactly see the street signs and that the display switches between night and day automatically.  It's very helpful.

Garmin GPS is accurate, but not always up to date

I've had my Garmin for a few years now and love it. It's saved me so many times from getting lost. My only complaint is that even when I update it online it doesn't always update. It is a little slow in getting started and often gets hung up on the aquiring location screen. It is very user friendly. I was able to figure out how to use it without having to read a huge manual. I like the features where I can choose categories like shopping, restaurants, or even search by intersection if I don't have an exact address.

My Garmin Street Pilot GPS is Great

4

I am a very computer illiterate person and not very technical so when I was introduced to the Garmin Street Pilot C340 GPS system, I was very impressed. You simply program in your desired destination and it calculates the best way for you to get there. For a novice, it is easy to use and pretty inexpensive. It comes with a voice that gives directions and can be changed to suit the individual user's taste in voices. The use of a person's voice when driving is nice because it is hard to watch the screen while you are driving. This is like having a person in the seat next to you telling you where to turn next and how far away the turn is. If you miss a turn, you can quickly get back on track because it corrects itself fairly quickly to get you back on the correct route to your destination.  It comes with the ability to stick the unit to the dashboard or window, or prop it up during use and then take it out of the car after each use. I would recommend it to anyone because it is easier and safer to use than trying to read a map while driving.
