I purchased the GE profile washer because it was the least expensive energy star washer to qualify for my city's rebate program. I do not regret the purchase at all.

The washer is a top loading machine with no center agitator. The lack of a center agitator gives the machine a large capacity. I managed to wash my comforter and sheets in one load instead of mulitiple loads.

The downsides of the machine are: 1) it is louder than some other machines but not terribly loud. I think the noise comes from the way it loads the water and spin cycles but I'm not sure. 2) The machine on the wrong setting does get delicate items all twisted up but does fine on the hand wash cycle.

The upside of the machine: 1) it is very water efficient and can auto select the wash cycle. 2) There are tons of load choices and water temperature is seperate from the cycle you select.

Overall its a good bet if you are looking for an energy efficient washing machine.

I would not recommend this washer to anyone!  After Just 1 year and 1 month of owning it the "Brain" in it went, the repair man came out said oh one of these again!  He repairs tons of them every week.  Meanwhile it was going to cost us over 300.00 to repair it so we decided to go by a new one and Definetly NOT GE.

Wish I could have my old washer back....

By

from Lake Worth, FL

Comments about GE Profile Top Load Washer:

Our old Kenmore washing machine died after 13+ years of service. My husband ordered the GE Profile Top Load Washer WPRE6150/K without my knowledge. The first time I used it I knew there would be trouble. I'd dropped a couple of towels on the way to the machine. I found the towels after the GE Profile Top Load Washer WPRE150/K had filled with water. The towels that were already in the washer were barely wet. The machine added no more water after I placed the dropped towels in the washer. So adding clothes after the cycle has begun is impossible. That's my least favorite feature of this washer. Next, the cycles are really long. Minimum wash time is about 45 minutes. Some are more than an hour. Most of the time I don't care how long the cycle is but sometimes I'd like to be able to do a quick wash. Even the delicate cycles are 45 minutes. The GE Profiler Top Load Washer WPRE6150k/H does inconsistent cleaning. Some items look really good and others don't look like they even get wet. This family of six does a lot of laundry. The GE Profile Top Load Washer WPRE6150K/H is not a good fit for us! It's not energy saving if I have to rewash clothes that don't come out clean the first time.

An amazing energy efficient washer.

Comments about GE Profile Top Load Washer:

I have only had this washer for about two weeks but I am in love with it already. This GE washer is by far the best washer I have owned. It's not only energy efficient but QUIET. Our previous washer was SO LOUD it's been great to go from that to a soft purring sound with this washer. I also love that it can do really big loads of laundry. As a family of five we have A LOT of laundry so the more we can get done in one load the better! Another thing I have been impressed by is how clean and fresh the clothes come out. We even cloth diaper and THEY come out clean and fresh as well. I have been nothing but impressed!

it's a washing machine.

Comments about GE Profile Top Load Washer:

It gets the job done. Seriously, I've yet to find a silent washing machine (maybe one existed when Grandma was beating her clothes on rocks by the river... but then again the river was about 200 yards from the house) — it's not to noisy, unless you hypersensitive to these things. The clothes are clean, good features and no complaints from me.

Durability
I've only had it a month, so don't go by me here.

GE Washer is great!!

Comments about GE Profile Top Load Washer:

Technology is turning, and some of these new washer and driers are crazy. This GE Profile model looks simple. But it has a wide selection of settings appropriate for all your laundry needs. It can hold rather large loads for a house hold washing machine. It can easily wash a thick king sized comforter. I love that this washer has a pre-soak option. Throw some oxyclean in there, and your laundry experience will never be the same again.

Do not buy the GE Profile WPRE6150K Washing Machine.

By

from Davison, MI

Comments about GE Profile Top Load Washer:

I bought the GE Profile WPRE6150K Washing Machine because I thought it was a great idea to have the water level based on the amount of clothes in the machine instead of a set level.  The wave action was suppose to be gentle on the clothes.  And I was happy with the fabric softener dispenser.  Soon I found out what a mistake I had made.  If I use the water saver, the soap does not dissolve.  Even with the extra rinse cycle I can pull clothes out of the machine with undissolved detergent.  So I adjusted the amount of soap I put in.  And the clothes were not getting clean.  I no longer use the water saver.  I fill the machine as full as it will fill and put the soap in, then the clothes.  Also when you use the water saver setting the clothes become so tangled that small rips started to appear in the shirts and blouses.  As for the fabric softener dispenser, I have given up on that all together.  Using the recommended type of soap and fabric softener left undissolved soap and fabric softener spots on the clothes.  If I could give this machine a negative star rating I would.  I can not wait until it breaks down so I can get rid of it.  I may even just give it to goodwill to get rid of it and buy anything but a GE machine!

Energy Efficiency
I run very small loads, with the fullest water level possible to try to get the clothes clean. I can not put a full set of queen sized sheets in this washer. I wash the fitted and flat sheet in one load. The pillowcases and pillow protectors with our pj's in another. Then the fabric softner issue is a whole other problem.

Cleaning Time
In order to get away from the fabric softner "stains", I run the load through once. Take everything out and instead of soap I put in the fabric softner, untangle the clothes and put them back in the washer.

Performance
The clothes are a tangled mess when they come out of the machine, Even after drying in the dryer, they have to be ironed. I cant just pretreat spilled on food, I have to make sure I pretreat and rub it out before it goes in the washer. Otherwise it food stain will still be on the material after 2 washings (one with hp soap, the other with fabric softner).

Design
This the worst design for getting clothes clean. Did they do a market test on this? The clothes do not come out clean, they are a tangled mess, and it is hard on the material being so tangled.

Durability
I hope it breaks down soon. I cant wait to get rid of it.

Overall, great performance, size & features for the price.

By

Comments about GE Profile Top Load Washer:

I bought this GE Profile Washer #WPRE6150HWT about a month ago when my older GE washer broke. The transmission broke and soiled an entire load of whites with the horrid smelling transmission grease.  Since it was going to cost just less to fix it as it would to replace it and I knew that it would never be clean of the grease that was sure to be all in the inside, I decided to go wtih this model of GE.

I very much like the extra room since it is 3.5 cu ft. instead of the 3.2 size of my old one, but the bigger size still fits just fine in the spot I had the old one.  The shiny stainless steel tub is also nice touch.  Another specific feature I have noticed in washers is that many (if not all) of the newer models of washers have automatic temperature control.  This means that even if you have your setting turned to cold, it will still use some hot water to achieve a specific temperature instead of just regular cold tap water.  What I like about this washer is it has an additional feature which allows you to get around this automation by setting it to either the Cold setting (which is temp controlled and mixed with a little hot water) or the Tap Cold setting, (which is not temp controlled and is only cold water).  I also like the extra rinse option and if I used fabric softener in the wash I would probably like the add softener option.

It seems to get everything fairly clean.  This washer uses the Hydrowave technology.  The old washer used the standard agitate style motion.  I am not convinced yet that there is any significant cleaning difference with the Hydrowave.  For whites it might not be quite as good.  They claim the Hydrowave feature to be more gentle overall and it does seem to be, but if you have anything with draw strings expect to be untangling them from everything every time.  One way that I have cut down on the massive tangle is to not leave them untied before putting them in.  When I remember to do this most of them stay tied the whole time and do not tangle.  I did not experience this extreme sort of tangling in my old washer.  Besides, the drawstrings, it does not really tangle the other clothes up much.

I also like the small features like that the tub rotates while filling and rinsing allowing the water to pour evenly on all the clothes.  Also, that it shows the amount of time left for a load, even though it does seem to take a bit longer than my old machine, but maybe it's just a mental thing because it is displayed on this one.  It is very quite while running and my husband (who works around jets) thinks it sounds like a plane shutting down when it is finishing spinning, but much quieter!  The only time it made much noise was once when it got seriously off balance and then I was thought my garage was about to explode it was so loud.  But, that was only that one time and after fixing the clothes in the tub it was fine.

How could I forget one of my most favorite features!  It is EnergyStar rated too.  It is not High Efficiency (which relates to the amount of water it uses and mostly front loaders), but the EnergyStar does mean that it uses much less electricity than my old one did.  That's always a plus if you have to buy a new one anyway, it helps if you can find the one that is perfect for you and is EnergyStar.

Overall, in this price range this machine has the most features (the tap cold option, extra rinse/fabric softener, additional space, stainless steel tub, EnergyStar and many wash cycle options as well) and it also offers quality reliable performance.  For someone who knows exactly what they want when it comes to laundry you will get all the features you need to make you happy.

Really like the GE Profile WPRE6150K

By

Comments about GE Profile Top Load Washer:

We moved into a new house last year and this washer came as part of the startup package. It's been very good for us and is doing a great job at washing all of our clothes. It can really take a large load of clothes and I'm happy to say its cold-water friendly as well since we're trying to save energy costs. On that note, it's very energy efficient and we have had no leaking problems whatsoever, which is important since its on the second floor. I'd advise people to try and find a small tub to sit this washer in if you plan on using it on the second floor to prevent any future leaks.

Buyer's remorse

By

from Lilburn, GA

Comments about GE Profile Top Load Washer:

Never written a review of an appliance, but I've been living with this washer for several years now & I want to keep others from making the same mistake. Three problems: Gets unbalanced easily--I have gouges in my wall where it's 'walked' violently during the spin cycle; tangles clothes up in knots and stretches knits out mercilessly--I now wash many of my nicer clothes in mesh bags; if you change a setting while you're filling the washer--smaller load, diff. temp, etc.--it empties out all the water & detergent you've already filled it with. What a waste. Don't buy it!

Died after 13 months

By

from Lake Forest, IL

Comments about GE Profile Top Load Washer:

Initially I was very pleased with this washer, though, like others, was surprised by the long wash cycles. It was always noisy, but I figured that was just the way new washers worked. After 13 months (1 month out of warranty) it died, requiring a new belt, motor, mode shifter, and pulley. GE - to their credit - is paying for all new parts and service. The repairman indicated that this washer (maybe all the new ones) is very finicky. You must use proper water levels for load, add detergent BEFORE the clothes, and keep the lid closed while the washer is filling. I was accustomed to haphazardly adding clothes and detergent, then closing the lid after I found everything that needed to go into the load. No can do. I am keeping it, with all the new parts, and will be much more careful using it in the future.

Doesn't clean good!

By

from Alvord, IA

Comments about GE Profile Top Load Washer:

We had this machine for a couple months and I am not happy with it. It does not get dirt/mud out of little boys/girls clothes, a lot of times I put them through twice. When we first received the machine it was very noisy had our repair man look at it and he had to put in a new tub, shaft, motor and bearing, now it runs more quietly. Do not like the lonnnggg wash cycles, with a family it seems like you never get the wash done. I would not recommend this washer for farm use or for larger families.
