Most HelpfulI got this camera last spring when I thought my old faithful Epson digital had disappeared. Of course the Epson showed up right after the new one delivered. That's the beauty of Ebay. Don't tell honey I just wanted a better camera.
The Canon PowerShot S3 IS Digital Camera is a prosumer model. It ranges...

Most HelpfulI purchased this camera for outdoor scenery, insides of museums and cathedrals, flower closeups, and pet antics.
I like a super zoom and the ability to shoot in low-light situations. The zoom is quite good, optics are quality, but low-light features result in a great deal of noise (graininess) in photos....
read full review »I received my Canon PowerShot S3 IS in January 2008, as a replacement for my Kodak that happened to be worn out.
Instead of just reading the manual, I decided to play with the camera along with reading the manual. My husband was sitting by the computer, and I was across the room on the couch. "Snap, Snap, Snap" went the Canon - beautiful pictures even just goofing around.
That tells you this is a point and shoot camera - but what it doesn't tell you is all that it can do. My favorite feature on this camera is the Color Accent mode. This allows you to pick one color (you can even...
read full review »The Canon Powershot S3 IS is a great choice for non-professional photographer. It has got many useful modes like landscape, portrait, manual, night scene, sport, auto and more. The flash is attached to the base of the camera and you decide whether you want to use it no matter if the camera suggests you to use it. It is quite simple to use the camera even though technically challenged people would not agree with me.
The zoom is impressive, 12x optical zoom, 6 megapixels are quite good value for about 300 dollars that the camera used to cost in 2007.
The LCD monitor makes it easy to aim and use...
read full review »I bought the Canon S3 IS camera about a year ago and it is the most fun I have had with a digital camera!
It lets me take all kinds of different type pictures, like accent color, black and white etc...
I can use the the camera at sporting events because it has the special button for moving objects. The pictures come out great!
I can zoom in pretty close to my object even if it is very far away, although I need to use a tri-pod for those shots because the slightest move makes the picture blur.
I can record videos of my daughters recitals and plays and take still pictures at the same time. ...
read full review »I can't say enough about my Canon Power Shot S3 IS camera. The picture quality is that of an SLR for a fraction of the price. The Optical zoom of 12x is fantastic for bring far away objects into view. You would swear that they are standing right in front of you, not 150 yards away. Tthe action setting makes taking pictures of moving objects, such as my dogs a breeze and still be in focus. The video setting takes excellent movies and the zoom will work with it as well. The microphone is clear and sharp. No scratchy sounds or garveled words. The landscaping setting is really nice when you want the...
read full review »I may be technologically savvy, but I have never been a camera/photo buff; I've owned 2 cameras in my life: a brownie when I was a kid, and a Polaroid for a while in college. I can build a custom PC but couldn't find the ON button for a friend's Nikon digital camera. I couldn't define an F-Stop if my life depended on it - and WHEN are you supposed to use flash, again?
So, when my job required I select and learn to use a digital camera, I had a mild panic. After much on-line research and 4 hours standing in front of various camera displays, I finally selected the Canon Power-Shot S3 IS - and...
read full review »The Canon S3 IS was hoped to be a great camera for me - an intermediate user and mom of kids in sports. The zoom is great - you can really get close to the action - and the adjustments made for some great pictures on the LCD display. My problem came when I printed the pictures - they are all grainy and a bit fuzzy and don't look anything like the LCD display. This and the weight of the camera has prompted me to find an alternative - there are many new digital cameras that are light weight and print great pictures. Avoid this one!
I love my digital camera. This camera is the best investment that i have ever made. I would not trade it for the world.
The Canon PowerShot S3 IS ($499) is an update to last year's very popular PowerShot S2 ultra zoom camera. The S3 isn't a revolution compared to the S2 -- in fact, the upgrades are fairly minor for the most part. New features on the S3 include:
Everything else is the same as on the PowerShot S2. That...
read full review »A few years ago, the S3IS was a top of the line digital camera, just a step below the pricy DSLR's. With a nice 12x optical zoom and a slew of options for picture control like a digital shutter speed and aperture controls, it feels like a DSLR. Its bulky size, quick battery drain, and quirky sensitivity balance out the good aspects for, in total, a simply average camera. And now, with 12+ megapixel cameras retailing for under $100, the S3IS is really only for a specific user.
If you are somebody who likes to play with depth of field and can navigate the menus to do so, wants a lot of optical...
read full review »Canon Power Shot S31S digital camera, offerd a better overall package, for what I expected. Easy access to the memory card, which decided me to get brand new S31S.The comppatibility of this camera whit the CHDK is big bonus too. Thank to its added features as far as image goes the pictures are a bit on the soft side, but that no surprice given the small size of the sensor. But the ease of use the vari angle LCD screen and the powerfull zoom lens more than make up for these small limitation. The S31S is a fun camera to take pictures with, and ultimately that's what counts. In the end as long as...
read full review »I bought this camera for my wife two years ago as an anniversary gift, as she was interested in "getting into" photography. It had been recommended by some friends of ours as a very good camera that wasn't as pricey as an SLR. My wife regularly tells people that this camera is the best anniversary gift I've ever bought her, and she has some fantastic pictures to show for it.
She likes to take it to state and national parks to photography the plants and animals, and the zoom and macro capabilities make it very versatile. The megapixel level is just right, enough, but not so much...
