Have been a frequent flyer with American Airlines for many years, and have rarely had a bad experience with them.  The few times they disappointed me were more than made up for by the responses from their Customer Service employees. — Their frequent flyer program is great.  I have… read full review »

On my two most recent trips I have flown American Airlines. During that time I observed a few changes. At first I didnt think they were a big deal, but when you add them all up, they seem pretty significant. — The bottom line is that American Airlines has made a bunch of service changes to… read full review »

American Airlines announced today that they will begin charging passengers to check EVEN ONE SINGLE BAG! — — Outrageous? — — You bet!!! — — An unacceptable plummet in service in an industry already plagued by discontent? No doubt. — — I don't care how many cities they serve (a lot), how reliable their service may be (it's not), or how comfortable their seats are (they aren't). When it comes to the backs of camels, at some point, customers have to say, "Enough!!!" — — That last straw should come well before an airline charges to… read full review »

To the Point — My husband and I recently flew from Boston to San Francisco from San Francisco to Los Angeles and from San Juan to New Yor City. We have flown on American Airlines many times. We once had a terrible flight - the landing gear wasn't working. As you see it all worked out alright but I thought the staff should have been at the gate to comfort those of us who were a tad scared when the pilot said to take a crash position. However in general we've had good flights but it's not a perfect airline for sure. — A Closer View — I've been on all sorts of planes. I, like… read full review »

The first time we flew out to Vegas, we took Southwest and Continental Airlines.  I am an extreme budget vacationer and research months in advance for the best price on our vacation.  This last time we went  we took American Airlines because they happened to have a better price at the time than any of the others.  Our flight out was fine, we stayed for 5 days and arrived at the airport at 10:30 pm for our flight at 1:30 am.  We went to check in on the computer and it would not let me check in, it only ordered me to see attendant.  So I went up to the desk to find… read full review »

In the last year I have flown American Airlines religiously.  My husband was stationed in Texas and then off to Iraq and then finally back.  So my visits to him were done on American Airlines.  — I never really noticed a problem with service or care until the pillow/blankets were missing from the small American Eagle planes.  I am a scaredy cat and find that sleeping gets me through the flights.  I of course didn't sleep this one time.  I started to carry my own pillow but now I also needed to carry a blanket.  — This seems really trivial until… read full review »

Flying American is usually from a need, not an airline specific choice.  I have about a 50-50 enjoyable flight experience ratio when flying American.  I know their big, go a lot of places, and have resonable connections, particuarly to South America, but if a bag is going to get lost, or a gate agent is going to have a bad day, it's usually on an American flight.  — That being said, I still fly them a fair amount because they fly everywhere, and they, with all of their faults, are a lot better than some of the others out there. —… read full review »

On February 3,2008 I flew American Airlines from Delhi to Chicago. I woke up with about 6 hours left in a 15 hour flight. My reading light did not work, neither did the call button. My seatmate put on his which was ignored by several attendants for more than 10 minutes. Eventually someone came serving tea. She said that she did not have a bulb and could not give me a flashlight by which to read in the darkend cabin. Later she told me I could move to a seat several rows back which had a functioning light. When I sat down there the stench of vomit was overwhelming. I read with my head in the… read full review »

American Airlines is overpriced, they don't serve any snacks, they don't preboard for individuals with young children, not all of their flights have entertainment...even on long flights.  They are also a hassle to work with if you need to change your flight.  They tried to charge an extra $800.00 to change just a one-way flight for a family medical emergency.  — The only good thing I really have to say is they had one employee who stayed on the phone with us for a long time to try and help.  The pilots also let my little boy look inside the cockpit. —… read full review »

American Airlines really has to do something about their ticket agents. For the most part they are unwilling to help, and not very friendly. Something as simple as getting a boarding pass turned into a nightmare one Saturday morning at Orlando Intl. they place the blame on everyone else when they are the real problem, which resulted in the ramp supervisor yelling and pointing her finger in my face (she's lucky to still have that finger) my advice if you don't have to don't fly with… read full review »

So American is by far the worst! I fly to and from Mexico for business travel and American Airlines, going through Dallas is a mess! — You mean nothing to them and I am done, the crews are rude and unhappy. They have issues with luggage and adding your proper FF points! —  They nickle and dime you on each fee they can tack on and if you book through an alternative site such as Expedia or Orbitz they surcharge you upon checking in. — … read full review »

I traveled from Fresno to Los Angeles, then onto Dallas/Ft.Worth, and then onto San Antonio and back.  I had a wonderful trip.  — The trip from Fresno to L.A. was a dreaded trip.  I didn't relish going to LAX.  However, the trip was very good and right on time and I really appreciated that when I arrived in L.A. that I didn't have to go through security another time.  It was very easy and that was quite a great surprise.  The trip from LAX to Dallas/Ft. Worth was wonderful.  It was a very large plane, lots of TV monitors all around the… read full review »

Don't bother booking seats ahead of time.  AA takes it upon themselves to move your seats regardless of what your ticket says.  We were moved to the back of the plane when they decided to site other people in our seats.  Considering that 6 months earlier I personally chose my upfront seats so I could make a quick exit to make my connecting international flight I was rather upset when the flight attendants belitttled me for asking them to move the people who where sitting in my seats.  The return flight home was just as bad.  The airlines lost a… read full review »

We have had a really hard time working with American Airlines.  When we first booked our flights, we booked online.  We entered our information in and searched for flights.  We were only offered one price, which we were fine with, so we purchased it.  We were only purchasing $336 dollars worth of tickets (for two passengers).  Then things changed and we needed to change our tickets to a flight that was at an earlier time.  We called American Airlines to find out that to change our tickets we would need to pay $200 plus the change in ticket price.  Please… read full review »

My comments are in reference to an incident that happened 2 years ago. My sister and I were unfortunate enough to be caught in Cancun during the worse hurricane of the decade. We realized that there were major porblems, like the airport closed because of damages, but the "friendly" people at AA (calling the toll free number) could have cared less about our situation. It took 6 days of constant calling to finally be told to be at a school the next moning and wait in line to "see if they had room" for us. We got there at 3 am and stood in the streets and hot sun til 1pm before we reached… read full review »
