Shopgoodwill.com is a fun auction site. It's got some interesting and unusual and cool items and you can get some great deals. It's ran by and all the proceeds go to Goodwill. It's like an online version of the Goodwill thrift store. Different Goodwills in different cities all can use the site to auction some of the items that have been donated to them.
There's a wide variety of stuff on the site. Antiques, collectibles, books, movies, clothes, electronics, a little bit of everything. Most everything is used or vintage or antique in nature, not too many brand new items. It's not E-bay. You're not going to be able to just find whatever you might be looking for on there. But there's a chance if you browse it, you might find something you want and it's likely to be a great deal.
The site is fun to browse when you have time on your hands. It has a search option where you can type in what you're looking for if you're looking for something specific. But if you're looking for something a bit more general,it's not broken down into really specific categories as far as ebay is. So it's fun to see what's available if you're not in hurry. There's a "Hot 50" category, too, the 50 most viewed and bidded on items at the time that's often interesting for a quick browse.
The bidding system is the same as ebay's. You just give them your maximum bid, the highest amount you'd like to pay for the item, and it bids in little increments for you from the starting or current price up to your maximum bid.
I bought a leather jacket for my husband. It's like new and really nice and a great find since he's a harder to find size (3xlt), and was a great bargain for a total of like 60 bucks with the shipping and all. There was a bit more lag between winning the auction and receiving the jacket than I expected. It took a week from when I won and paid for the jacket to the date it was shipped out. But they shipped UPS and even provided a link with the tracking number so I could track my package's progress myself. It only took a few days for the shipping. All in all, it almost two weeks between the end of the auction and the arrival of the jacket. So if you need whatever you are shopping for to be there in a big hurry it might not be the best option for you. But if you're in no rush, it wasn't that slow.
All the items on the site are stuff that's been donated to Goodwill to be sold to raise money for them. So you get to feel good about your frivolous spending at least going to a charity cause instead of a for-profit seller. Plus, you don't have to worry about scammers like you do on ebay. There's no feedback system, but you don't need one. They're Goodwill. They sell everything as-is, but in good faith. The listings describe the items to the best of their ability and honestly, but they freely admit that the goods are things that have been donated and they aren't experts in the items. So it's up to you to decide what at item's worth to you. But that can be a little extra fun for bargain hunters, too. If maybe you're into some sort of niche collectible, you may recognize a treasure and get it for a steal.
If you like the shopping at thrift stores like Goodwill and the Salvation Army and such you'll like shopgoodwill.com. It's fun for browsers and bargain hunters. Type B shoppers. It's not for driven Type A shoppers. If you have one specific item you're looking for and you're in a hurry and you want it quick and brand new, you're not likely to be happy with shopgoodwill. But if you want to a little resale entertainment and are shopping for interesting things at great prices, you should totally check it out.
