Tobi Steamer Review Summary

Imagine having a clothing steamer that will knock out wrinkles without having to set up an ironing board and the iron. A handheld clothing steamer would be great, and that is what the Tobi steamer As Seen on TV purports – quick and easy steam ironing. Unfortunately steamer reviewers find that the Tobi steamer does not work nearly as well at home. To add insult to injury (like hand burns), customer service at Tobi ranges from awful to nonexistent.

concerned about safety, rude service offends me

The Tobi Steamer seems like a great product, as do most, when demonstrated on televsion.  However, customer service is poorly trained, argumentative and unresponsive to questions, concerns, emails and phone calls.

The handle gets incredibly hot and forces me to stop my steaming because it burns my hands.  Sleeve creases are easy enough to do but steaming the bottom edge of  a garment is nearly impossible without burning your hands.

I did not receive the complete order and have emailed the company, once again, to no response.  I dread having to make another phone call.  Definitely would not...

Wow!  I am extremely disappointed in the customer service, it sounds like this Tobi business is run out of someone's basement.  When I called to place the order, it sounded like the person who answered the phone just woke up or had to get out of bed to take the call.  Perhaps they should spend less money on advertising and more money on customer service and quality of product.  It took FOREVER to receive the item, and when you go to return the customer has to pay for shipping which was over $30, so not only was I disappointed, but I ended up losing the $30.  Please take my advise and go to... review »

This steamer doesn't work even CLOSE to what they show on their infomercial. Why I even thought it would is beyond me!

I tried this on four or five different items and found that you had to go over and over the area many times to get even PART of the wrinkles out! I even tried it on a silk scarf and it did not work.

VERY BAD! My advice is to spend a little bit more and buy a regular PROFESSIONAL/INDUSTRIAL garment steamer! The difference is like night and day!

I received this product and found that it did not put off enough steam at all. When held up to a shirt you could not see any steam come through the shirt at all. Apparently the one on TV is a different product.

This product was given to me for a Xmas gift and when I decided NOT to keep it I called the company and obtained an RMA number and shipped the product back at MY COST and was not told of any time frame for the receipt. Now a month latter I call and they advised they canceled my RMA and are shipping the product back to me.

So apparently I stuck with this Piece of CRAP.

Don’t make the...

It sounds good but unfortunately I found that the stand is very flimsy, it's impossible to steam the bottom of a garment, i.e. slacks, and the wrinkles don't come out like they do in the infomercial and despite following all directions, water dripped out and wet the garments. I just returned it after convincing their customer service representative that I did not want to keep trying it for another month and that I did not want a good deal on an air purifier. I am waiting for a credit to my charge.

I am debating sending this product back.  It does get out wrinkles but it gets so hot to your hands you have to wrap a shirt or towel around it in order to handle it.  If they are going to just send me another one that gets this hot it would not be worth getting it again.  I will just wrap a shirt around it to use it.

July 26, 2008. Saw the TV-ad, called to order, and changed mind not to order.

Bruce called me back from Tobi HQ at 11:00am, offered me better deal. I accepted and ordered amount is US$127.63. Order Date: July 26, 2008. Order Confirmation #: 6543839

Product didn't arrive. Sent an e-mail enquiry at 8:07pm asking for the status. No reply received.

I checked with my post office few times to see if they got anything in my name. No news.

Disappointed

The Tobi Steamer is extremely disappointing. It does not remove wrinkles well, and worst of all, it spits hot water onto the garment. One of their agents said their customer service line is for sales only. If you call to ask for help with the product once you have it, they can do little to help because they're not trained to troubleshot. After being on hold for a while, the agent returned to suggest that I clean the product according its manual. I did, and it continued to spit water onto the garment. It's brand new and since I only used distilled water with the unit, there shouldn't be any...

I bought the TOBI a month ago, and since then-it has caused nothing but grief and pain.

The first time I tried it, I had filled up the water tank. Next, I had proceeded to bring it out to the floor and steam some clothes. (Five times faster of course!) I turn it on, only to discover a massive puddle of water all over my hardwood floor. I had put it on a table, and wiped it all up, only to discover another pool of water on my table. After doing all this cleaning, I brang it upstairs to try it out on some pillows. (With a TOWEL under it this time)

By this time, I am angry enough with the TOBI. I plug...

The hand held Tobi did not work any like I thought it would. I didn't see any of the wrinkles on my clothes go away. The only thing the Tobi did was wet my clothes with steaming hot water. I tried it several times and followed the directions but it just wouldn't work. I can't wait to take it back to the store.

I'm not crazy but always curious. Watch the commercial, the collars are always beautifully ironed before they hang them up to demonstrate the product. I imagine there might be some 'interesting' photography going on too.

I saw the infomercials about the Tobi and when the portable/travel size became available at my local department store I purchased one. My fiancee often has to wear a dress shirt, pants, and tie to work (and he travels for business) so I thought this would be an ideal product for us to have in our home. I hate ironing! It is such a hassle to drag out the board and heat up the iron, very time consuming. I thought this product would save me time and impress me but I was wrong! I read the entire instruction manual and proceeded to fill the Tobi with the required amount of water. I plugged it in and...

When I saw the infomercial I thought the product would save me lots of time ironing my shirts...once I got the product, it took me the same time and even longer to do my shirts and the result wasn't even comparable to an iron...I decided to return the product and shipped it out (amazingly I was able to put everything back in their boxes) on Dec 3/08...I am still waiting for my credit...I have called numerous times their Customer Service and I cannot believe them...they continuously hang up, put you on hold for ever and give you a bunch of run arounds...THIS FEELS SO MUCH LIKE A SCAM !!!  It is... review »

When I saw the tobi add, I knew it was for me. My daughter gave it to me for my birthday.  I am in love with it. I do not like wrinkle cloth but hate to iron and come up with another wrinkle, the Tobi steams the cloth beautiful.

I will recommend it to everybody who likes to dress up neat.

The money I spent on a Tobi is the worst way to spend money.  It is awkward to work.  I did find a makeshift solution to steaming the bottom of clothes:  a plastic tipped pair of tongs.  The Tobi sputters water frequently, leaving streaks of water on items.  The stand is junk...does not stay up when tightening the locking mechanisms.  It is not easy to put away  store.  I thought it was just me, but after reading all of these negative reviews, I think we should collectively bring forth a class action suit.  Tobi is misrepresented & overpriced.  It is very difficult to use, operate, fill,...
