Great introductory camera.

This is a great little camera! The batteries last longer than expected, the picture quality is certainly decent, the zoom is adequate. The ONLY thing I miss is the optional view finder, which this obviously doesn't have. It does have different settings, such as auto (does it all for you) to manual, portrait, auto shake (for folks like me :) and a great way tstore on a memory card. For the price, you really can't beat the Samsung S85. As an introductory camera, I would certainly recommend it. I use it as my everyday camera, taking what pictures I need. The upload is simple, the software to edit is included and easy to use and as I stated earlier, battery usage is minimal.

Never miss a moment with my Samsung S85!

This was a gift that I received and one of the best gifts that anybody could give to me at a time in my life when I had so much going on and I wanted to take pictures all the time and share them and remember all the events. The screen on this camera is great. It is large enough to give clear views of the pictures that have been taken, which is great for passing the camera around for everybody to see what they looked like in the picture that was just taken. I also love the 8.2 mega pixels on this camera, makes it easy to grab some great surprise shots of people from across the room. Love it when I grab an unforgettable moment! There is also a video recording option which has also come in handy. The only thing about that that I don't like is that when I zoom in or soom out, the audio is lost on the video. Other than that, it has been great to me. It has ebeen about three years since I got this camera and it is beginning to run a little slow. When I use rechargable batteries I am not able to take pictures back to back anymore, but if I use regular batteries it recovers quicker for me to take more pictures quicker.

"Disapointment"

I purchased this one last year some time and it has broken already. The shuuter lens won't open up stays closed. I have done nothing wrong to have this happen, I always keep it in the case I bought and keep up in the closet when not in use. It sucks the batteries dry really fast even the good ones, tried them all. I will never buy another one of these. The next one I think will have its own battery. the picture quality is great, you have to have it on the right setting though to get what your looking for. What I liked about this one was you could crop your photo from the camera it self and if you have the video on and play it back, and you liked a pose of someone ,then you can snap it there and keep for a photo instead of video. Very nice features on the camera as well. So thats why I gave it a 3star rating. A good one to buy if you are a person that upgrades fast to the next in line.   The other set back was that it shut down while taking pictures and it would fustrate me so much I just stopped using it, but then one day I needed it for a play at my childrens school and thats when I found the shutter lens stopped opening.

Stopped working a few months after purchase

3

My husband bought this for me for Christmas a few years ago, and I was so excited! I had done some research on digital cameras and dropped the hint to him that this was the one I thought would suit us best. Also, with the name Samsung, I figured it would be very dependable and last us a long time. I did not want to have to worry about buying another camera two years or so down the road.   It worked great the first few months we had it. The pictures we took were clear and sharp, the contrast was excellent, and the 5x optical zoom was fantastic. However, by around the 9th month, I started to notice that the zoom was acting funny. It would only zoom on some occasions, and sometimes would not even work at all! It did that for a few days, and then went back to working normally. I figured it was just a little glitch or something. A few months after that, it started to shut down completely in the middle of taking pictures! One minute I would be zooming in and focusing, the next minute my camera would turn off. I noticed it only did that when I zoomed IN. It would just turn off! I replaced the batteries multiple times, wondering if that was the issue, but it did not help anything. The one day, it just stopped working completely.   It was a real bummer to me, because I really enjoyed the camera while it lasted. It produced some great pictures. However, do not buy this camera if you are looking for an investment, because it will let you down. That was the most surprising thing to me, because it was made by a quality company.

Great Point and Shoot cam

This is a great camera. Small enough to carry around everywhere (I could actually pocket it) and takes great pictures. The pre set modes are very handy too. This has been in practically all my trips, I even take it on my daily commute to work (yes I like it that much) Pros: 5x zoom **optical** zoom- this is the main reason. Optical zoom makes a big difference. Pics come out crisper even when taken at a distance Size- as I said this is a very handy camera fits in one hand, doesn't weigh a ton :D AA Batteries- yeah yeah, call me old fashioned but I see this as a "feature". I really hate the proprietary lithium power packs for most cameras nowadays Good color saturation- the S85 is quite impressive in this aspect. I've owned Nikon and Canon point and shoots and I could honestly say that the colors look more "real" with this camera. Cons: No view finder- all LCD for this little guy. I know most compact cameras take this out to save space but I find an actual viewfinder as a good way to save batteries (which makes me more thankful that this takes AAs) Other thoughts: I wish Samsung or Pentax (they kinda had a partnership a while back) would make an updated version of this with the same sensor, I feel that the sensor is the main advantage of this camera.

The Samsung S85 camera did not meet my needs as a consumer.

The samsung S85 digital camera did not meet my needs as a consumer. Though it had excellent focusing power,a decent zoom range, and turned out a above average photo,i found many things i did not like about this product. The first aspect of this camera i did not find so attractive was that the color of the pictures were always off. The brights were always too bright and the darks were always dull.Secondly, within a week of owning this camera( and after importing photos onto my computer only once),the USB portal failed and i was no longer able to transfer photos from my memory card from my camera to my desktop.Other than that,it worked great. Until a few weeks late when my zoom lens became stuck out. The first couple times it happened,i was able to gently push it back in and move on with my picture taking, However, after awhile i was unable to take any photos at all without it becoming stuck in the outward position evertime i turned the camera on. As irritating as it was,i dealt with it. A few weeks later,i was not able to focus the camera at all,and every picture turned out blurry and unrecognizable.
