Potent smelling, but great feeling!

5

Perhaps there's something psychological about my love of Tiger Balm, but I don't think so. I remember there always being some in the house as a girl growing up. My grandmother used it on her arthritic hands daily. She swore by its soothing properties. I figured there had to be something of value to it based on its longevity on the market when I bought my first jar after a hip muscle injury. Like Grams, I have continued to keep this in my pain-relieving stash. The small jar is filled with an aromatic blend of some of nature's best muscle soothers. I love the distinctive smell of cloves, but that's not the primary reason I love it. As I worked towards healing, I would use just a dab of Tiger Balm ointment on my hip to cool and soothe the sore muscle. It did just as I hoped. It soothed the aches and spasms to allow my body the rest it needed to heal. I'm not 100%, and I likely never will be, but Tiger Balm helps keep me going. I'd recommend this product to anyone.

Tiger Balm extra strength

1

This stuff is great for a nice relaxing massage but not for muscle pain relief! I believe it is all natural as most of the ingredients are oils. Not saying that is why it does not work as I have used a lot of natural healing products that worked well. I have bad upper back and neck pain from a bad accident and my husband massages it often for me to loosen up the tension in my muscles. Picked this up since I thought it would not burn like some products do and it did nothing for my pain. Felt great getting massaged with it but that's about it. It has a very strong overpowering odor, not sure how to describe the actual scent but I did not like it. The smell stayed with me too for hours and I had a hard time washing the scent off. It is brown colored and will stain your clothes so be careful. I would not buy this again. Great idea but they need to revamp the recipe they are using to make this stuff as it does nothing for pain.

Unleash the Tiger

I first came across Prince of Peace Tiger Balm Extra Strength Pain Relieving Ointment when I lived in China. It was sold in small canisters on the street and seemed to be a staple of every Chinese medicine cabinet. So, I decided that it was worth a try. I didn't actually know that it was available in the U.S. until I moved back here. I first used it after being attacked my mosquitoes. It quickly took away the itching sensation, thereby preventing me from scratching my bites and allowing them to heal quickly. I later tried it on other types of bites, including ants. The cooling sensation really helped, but I did need to continually reapply. Since that time, I have used it for muscle pain and aches in a similar manner to Biofreeze or Icy Hot. The only bad experience I had was when I suffered from bed bugs in a dirty hostel. I applied Tiger Balm all over my body to deal with the itching. What I experienced was the worst fluctuation between hot and cold. I simultaneously felt like my body was on fire and covered in ice. Lesson learned: Tiger Balm is amazing in small doses.

Strong as a tiger

One of my favorite things to do is work out. I love running and trying new workouts but when I try something new and work new muscles I always end up sore the next day. Which makes it tough at my cleaning job to work while I'm sore. I tried oral pain relief like aspirin but those didn't seem to make much difference so I purchased tiger balm extra strength pain relieving ointment hoping to get some relief. This is the first type of pain relief external ointment I have ever used and I was pleasantly surprised! I put this on the morning after an intense workout when I was very sore and the consistency was like a typical ointment although this tiger balm did absorb quickly and didn't feel very sticky. It doesn't have an overpowering odor but it burns a little like hot and cold at the same time but after a few seconds it relieves my muscle pain and continues to do so throughout the day. Tiger balm has become a regular fixture in my medicine cabinet now because it helps relieve my muscle soreness so much and allows me to perform better at my job. I couldn't believe that I could get so much relief from just an ointment but like I said I was very pleased and surprised with the effectiveness of this product and would highly recommend it to anyone suffering from any type of pain!

Tiger balm works very well

I first tried tiger balm from my husband who used it a lot for sore muscles and swore by it. I don't like taking over the counter medicine constantly for aches and pains so I decided to try the tiger balm ointment. This stuff is extremely intense. For anyone who has ever used something like icy hot or freeze away, this to me is about ten times more powerful. It works really good and immediately, but I have to admit if you're not used to pain relief creams, this may seem a little strong. But if you're looking for something easy to apply and fast relief for your muscles, I would definitely recommend this. It's pretty inexpensive and you don't need to lather it on you for it to be useful. I still use it and I think its one of the best if not the best. Great product. One more thing, it does have a little bit of a Vicks vapor rub odor, so you may want to smell it before you buy it if you're sensitive to certain smells.

I love this stuff. It works and it's made by an organic company.

I have been buying products from this company for years because they produce and sell a lot of organic products. I was surprised and somewhat relieved to find out that they sold a pain reliever. It's similar to other products on the market and it works. The ointment smells very natural like menthol or peppermint. It's a nice smell if you don't mind the minty scent. The ointment goes on a little thick but after some rubbing it does eventually sooth into the skin. It doesn't completely absorb so you do have a little bit of a greasy feel left on the skin but it isn't major or irritating. I've used this several times on strains, sprains, and pulled muscles. I sprained my wrist a few weeks ago and found this in my car where I had apparently left it the last time I needed it. I was excited because I needed something to knock the edge off to help get me through my work day. The ointment goes on cool to the touch and tingles just a little bit. It goes to work immediately by tingling and keeps working for a while. It does dissipate after a half our or so but it still works for a couple hours.

Tiger Balm is amazing!

Prince of Peace Tiger Balm: where have you been all my life?! I seriously love this stuff! I was living with a Japanese family for a time while competing in national-level sports competitions. The family introduced me to Price of Peace Tiger Balm after I had a particularly hard workout and crazy sore muscles. They showed me how to apply the balm, just a tiny amount rubbed where I hurt most. I didn't give it must thought and figured it wouldn't do much. Boy was I surprised!! At first there is a cooling feeling, like one gets with a menthol rub. Then the heat grows slowly and spreads providing amazing pair relief. At first I was very turned off by the sign of the jar that Tiger Balm comes in, but then I realized that you need such a small amount of it that the tiny jar really goes a long way. I've had good luck picking up Tiger Balm at Asian Grocery stores at about 50% of the price you can get it for in a regular drug store. You do have to be somewhat careful with the balm so that it doesn't stain your clothing.

Good one, must try!

I have been using this since my childhood, one product that never failed on me. It has a very strong odor, which can get on your clothes.. but who cares if it does what it supposed to do. I used this product whenever i sprain my back or neck. Simply massage it on affected areas (works best if you use heat after the message). The skin begins to feel warm or cold, possibly serving as a distraction from the pain. It gives me relief after the 1-2 time of use. The overall intensity (Hot & Cold) is perfect too, it gradually builds up and allows the muscle to relax completely over time. The patches works great too. I have use it for relieving back pain, stiffness, sprains and sometimes to relieve headaches, sinus congestion, and discomfort from mosquito bites. I grew up with this product, and it was a must have thing in every house. It is nice to have something on your pain that sustains itself. I don't use it every day because I don't need it but when I do, it helps.

Not my favorite

I was first given Prince of Peace Tiger Balm Extra Strength Pain Relieving Ointment as a gift while serving as a missionary in Puerto Rico. The gentleman who gave it to me thought it would help with some knee pain that I had been getting frequently while walking around a lot. Until then, I had only tried taking ibuprofen for the pain; it was ineffective. This Tiger Balm worked fairly well with relieving my knee pain, but I had to apply it quite frequently. It was difficult to rub in all of the way, and it left an oily residue on my knee. Since I was required to wear skirts as a missionary, the dust from the roads would collect on my knee because of the oily residue, even though I was wearing ankle-length skirts. It would also make the skirt stick to my knee, getting the skirt all dirty from the "mud" that had collected on my knee. So even though the tiger balm worked okay, the side effects were less than desirable and I stopped using this balm.

Sounds hip, but not really.

Tiger Balm has capitalized on a really cool name, but honestly, this product is not what it seems to be. I have used this on many instances for workout aches and it really is kind of weak. It has the same strong smell as many of the other similar products, but the strength of it's effectiveness is just not there. The other thing about Tiger Balm, is the container that they use to package it. I personally prefer to apply ointment from a tube, rather than from a jar. It can be a little messy and it takes both hands to fumble around with it. Tiger Balm is a weaker form of most other muscle ache ointments and it can be helpful if that's all you have on hand. I would not choose Tiger Balm as my first choice - or even as a second or third choice. The product itself is not that greasy, but you do need to be careful about getting on clothing. You also need to be careful about open wounds and body openings, as it will burn too. It's very similar to other products of it's kind with respect to both of those things.
