The Best

The Nintendo Game Boy Color is probably my favorite of all of the handheld gaming systems that exist to this day. And it also may have taken more enjoyable hours out of my entire life than my xbox 360. The Nintendo Game Boy Color comes in a beautiful pallet of solid colors and a nice screen to look at (without a backlight which most handhelds have these days that can damage one's eyes). It only takes two double A batteries and the Game Boy Color is ready to go. It is pretty lightweight and what sets it apart from newer handhelds is how it contours to the inside of your hand on the back, rather than being a flat square annoying rectangle. My personal favorite game that I play on this handheld is Pokemon Red Version (Note: the Game Boy Color only plays Game Boy Color games). This game stands the test and aging of time itself and plays just like I remember it, a nice faded red showing and some of the absolute best 8 bit music you will ever hear. I have been known to plug in headphones into the headphone jack at the bottom of the Game Boy Color, just to listen to this lovely music even better. The games are all good for any young gamer to experience to learn to appreciate the graphics of modern day technology while instilling other important life values such as friendship, trust, and ambition. Overall, the Game Boy Color IS "the very best, like no one ever was!" Graphics Quality Teaches children these days to not take their modern day graphics for granted. Think about it, has your child even seen an 8-bit game?! Game Variety Complete with sequels and game type variety. Controller Comfort Not a box rectangle like your DS! Ease of Use Very simple controls: on/off switch, volume control, A and B buttons, Start and Select buttons, and D-pad Durability Going on 15 years and counting!

What a great tool to aid in your child's learning to read!

If your child is learning to read and is into technology, this is a great tool! Get a game with dialogue between the characters-- they'll be forced to try to figure out the conversations-- hopefully, with you nearby to help but not close enough for you to be doing all the reading.  My son was into Pokemon when it first took the USA by storm-- he was a 1st grader and wanted to play the Pokemon GameBoy game.  Well, I wouldn't read each line to him, so he was very interested in learning to read!

Game Boy + Color = Success!

5

The Game Boy was a huge success, so Nintendo had a real tough time to make a successful sequel to it. The idea is a Game Boy with color and the addition of a LED communicator. The idea is a huge success and sells a huge amount of systems. Nintendo also implemented for the first time backwards compatibility with previous Game Boy titles. All previous Game Boy titles released were instantly playable and all previous features were back. You could also play previous Game Boy games in color....sort of. You can make the shades of the the game one solid color, not as great as pure color, but better than trying to get the right shade and contrast in the right light. New games such as Super Mario Bros DX were great and fun, but there weren't many Game Boy Color games made, so the Game Boy Color seemed more like a step to the Game Boy Advance than an actual system. It was still a success and made some great improvements to the already great Game Boy.

Very Modern For Its Time, And Low Priced & Travel Companion!

5

A great travel companion for long trips or long waits, it provides entertainment in a small size product and energy life. Although it is outdated today, it provided modern entertainment at is dawn with better graphics than the original game boy and the different desgins of colors and product advertisement for Pokemon provided personalization for everyone's need. The small sized games provided the perfect placement in pockets for easy selection between what was being played. And the continuation of the games to future Gameboys. It price at the time was lower than home gaming systems, and today it continues to be low priced by providing standard quality that is still entertaining as well as the avaliabity of many low priced games providing for cheap affordable entertainment on trips and in waiting rooms. In addition to games the avaliablity of add-ons such as the Gameboy Printer, Gameboy Camera, and Plug Adapter provided for more entertainment and fun.

Nintendo gameboy color is a fun portable console.

I always enjoyed playing Nintendo Gameboy Color which is a lot of fun to play. Batteries last a good long while as while they last 6-7 hours straight. Games are simple not overtly complex. It is fun for long trips it really keeps you occupied. YOu will never get bored. I really enjoy playing The Legend Of Zelda game on game boy color it is really alot of fun to play with I never get bored playing that game. I also really like to play Mario on Gameboy color it is alot of fun. I always like the mario games they are always fun to play. This was my first time getting into Nintendo. This is still fun today. Compared to Nintendo Ds and PSp however the graphica are now outdated. But if you can get past that you will have a fun time playing this nintendo gameboy color. Trust me it still is alot of fun. Yes i would really recommend this console. The games are good for beginners just getting into video games. I give it 5 stars.

I have 2 Game Boy Colors one green one purple.

I bought my two girls Game Boys about 3 years ago. One got a purple one and the other got a teal looking one. They are both Game Boy Color and they absolutely loved them!! Now that they have the new Ninetendo DS Lite they have long forgotten about the trusty Game Boy. They only had a few games a mario game and something generic I cant remember but they played very well never any problems with it. I bought the two Game Boys used and they only cost me about 8 bucks a piece! What a deal huh!! The games are about 3 bucks from a used game store so its a cheap simple toy that kids love. The screen is small  about an inch and a half by the same. It has a small light indicating the system is turned on, on the left side. A direction pad and A and B buttons on the bottom along with the Select and Start buttons. On the bottom is has headphones and charging jacks. There is also a port on the left side...not really sure what thats for. On the right side is the on/off switch. For the price your kids will surely enjoy playing Game Boy and all its marvelous colors, I mean who can beat 8 bucks a system?? With all the advancing technology these days some parents can't keep up with the price and these are perfectly fine in my book for young kids. You can spend twenty bucks and get this system and about 4-5 used games and your kids are going to love ya.

Not just for kids

Good for all ages. For older people looking to keep their minds active, this is a fun alternative to puzzle books & reading. They can be found for reasonable prices, with a variety of games to choose from. Easy to keep in a pocket or purse. Downside is small graphics for those with poor vision, & need light to play, but magnifiers & lights can be found on the secondary markets. Recommend!!!

Shut up your kids with little cash: get em this!

In 1998 they finally released the revolutionary **Gameboy Color** to the market. Instead of the usual blurry black and white screen bullcrap we had to put up with all these years we now get to see several new Gameboy Color games in (get this) full colour! Is this worth picking up though especially in this day and age? The Gameboy Colour itself is just that; it's a old fashion Gameboy with the ability to play certain games in colour. It won't play any older black and white GB games in colour and it is just a mere 8-bit machine as well so don't expect anything too fancy. The GBC doesn't have any 3D polygons or even Mode 7 (sprites or backgrounds that zoom in or out for those of you with a life) effects plus a lot of the game's may have a lot of slowdowns and flickering if the action gets too hectic. Fortunately, a lot games focus more on game play then visual power anyway and there are a lot cool games for this tiny machine out there. For example; like the original Gameboy, one of the launch titles for the Gameboy Color was the famous Russian puzzle game **Tetris DX**. The newer Tetris here not only had new colour effects to show off the power of the GBC but it also included new modes and save options to help make it more accessible for gamers on the go. Speaking of the system's portability the GBC is just slightly larger then the tiny Gameboy Pocket (it's about 3 pounds in weight) thanks to the new bump in the back (who doesn't mind a little extra junk in the truck, eh?) for the two AA batteries but it's very minor and it's still better then that huge white brick that was the original Gameboy. Although a lot GBC games will still play on older Gameboy units (minus the colour of course), there are some GBC exclusive games will only work on the Gameboy Color (like *Super Mario Bros. DX* and *Kirby Tilt and Tumble* for example) here. Be sure you look on the game's box for the details before you buy because if you are super poor and only have the older black and white Gameboy's you may be screwed with a game you can't even play. Although the screen is fairly clear, you may have to get the real amount of light in the area to view it so it's far from perfect. If you can find this little beauty for about 10 bucks and you don't have Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, PSP, or even that crappy N-gage cell phone thing then by all means get it. The system may only be a anicent 8-bit unit with limited colours, low resolutions, no Wi-Fi support or any of that fancy new age junk but it does have a ton of interesting games out for it. *Tetris, Donkey Kong Country, Pokemon, Pac Man, Dragon Warrior, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda* and many more big names are all available here and those are just a few of the thousands you can find. Don't be ashamed you are playing a 1998 gaming system here because it sure beats playing with a Blackberry (but it's still not better then playing with yourself though). Nintendo didn't stop there of course, we can't forget about Nintendo's new 32-bit Game boy called the Gameboy Advance and the Gameboy Advance SP and yes; they will still play most of those old Game boy games of yours too. Nintendo is also released the DSsystem called the Nintendo DS but it won't play the older B&W and Color GB games just so you know. So feel free to get any Gameboy but don't get over broad and get more than one, that's going too far I think. **Gameboy Color overall rating: 62/100**-StarSoldier1 2007(Ryan Genno)

Still a good choice for first time gamers.

The **Gameboy Color **hand-held unit is outdated. There have been several models released since the original portable video game player. You would think that the **Gameboy Color **would not be a popular toy anymore. **Gameboy Color**, however, is still a bit hit. It is less expensive than the newer, more advanced systems. **Gameboy Color **is popular among beginning players. The button functions are easy to figure outand the games are fairly simple to play. It is the less expensive way to go to expose your child (or husband!) to a hand-held game player. **Gameboy Color **is good for providing hours of fun on long drives, keeping kids occupied while running errands and waiting in offices, and teaching them how to care for electronics.
