Through my husband's HMO we get over the counter products.  One of these is Major Robafen DM cough formula cough suppressant expectorant.  It is compared to the active ingredients in Robitussin DM.  We got it free, so each year I stock up on several bottles before the cold season hits. A week before Christmas I got sick, and it started with a cough.  I immediately went for the Major Robafen DM, and took it several times a day.  It states that as an adult you can have 2 teaspoonful every 4 hours, up to 6 doses a day. I took it as my daytime cough medicine, and then had my nighttime cough medicine with a sleep aid in it, so I wasn't awake all night.  I can't say that this was any better than the brand named cough medicines, but it worked just as well.  My cough was almost gone by the time Christmas came along.  The medicine stopped that nagging cough, and also helped to break up the phlegm. This comes in a 4 fluid ounce bottle (118 ml).  It is alcohol free and non-narcotic.  For warnings please consult the label on the bottle. Congestion Relief Give temporary relief. Chest Congestion Relief Helps to break up the phlegm, and clear the chest. Relief of Aches & Pains Cough medicine doesn't help aches and pains. Cough Suppression Temporary relieves coughing.
