Crackin' Oat Bran: My Go-To Afternoon Snack
I am the kind of person that can eat cereal any time of the day or night but Crackin' Oat Bran is one of my favorites. It isn't sugar coated nor is it sweet but the crunch and flavor had me hooked the first time I tried it. While it is expensive, when it's on sale and I have coupons I will buy as many boxes as I can. I am the only one in the house that loves it so I know no one else is going to eat it. Even though this isn't sugar coated it has a great taste to it; you can pick up on a little bit of cinnamon but the whole grain oats sort of overpower everything else in the cereal. If given the choice I'd rather have a couple handfuls of this cereal than potato chips or pretzels as a snack. There are six grams of dietary fiber per serving so it helps with digestion as well as helping you get the most from your snack or breakfast. When I am making apple cinnamon muffins I take a cup of Crackin' Oat Bran and smash it up in a bag and mix it with some turbinado sugar then sprinkle it on the tops of the muffins before I bake them. The combination of the cereal and the turbinado sugar gives the muffin top a crunchy mouthfeel. Most kids will try this and push the bowl away because it doesn't have a sweet sugary taste to it but I love it. Most of the time I eat it without milk because I like the crunch of it. This will stay firm in milk for about eight minutes so if you want to eat it softer, let it sit for about ten minutes. This is also a great thing to add to yogurt if you break it up in a bag.
