GE 40 Pint Dehumidifier

I have had a problem with Mildew and Mold in the Spring and in the Fall between the time that I turn off my air conditioning and turn on my furnace. It is a musty smell to my things, and mold was growing on things. I looked everywhere for cleaning remedies but found out the only real solution to the problem was to bring the humidity level down so the mold just couldn't exist. My son thought that I needed a Dehumidifier. This GE features a large water containment drawer, so it can remove a lot of water from the air before needing to be emptied. It has a water level indicator, and a signal light indicates when it's full. Operates at a lower temperature than most of the other brands. Has an automatic shut off when full. Has several fan speeds. These are just a few of the features that fit the bill for me. I have had it for over a year and it has operated continuously just wonderfully. Amazingly, all the mold is gone, the musty smell disappeared, and my house is Mildew and Mold Free!! I would recommend this to anyone. Effectiveness Amazing how much water it will remove from the air. Safety Very safe. Ease of Cleaning Extremely easy. Durability Very durable. Design Nice design

I never dreamed I would be in the market for a dehumidifier, but--living in Missouri pretty much made it a neccessity!  I have a storage building that I store my Christmas stuff, paint, flea market items, packing materials, etc. in--in other words, a lot of stuff!  The humidity here is astounding and to my dismay I noticed not only a musty smell to my things, but mold was growing on everything leather!  I looked everywhere for cleaning remedies but found out the only real solution to the problem was to bring the humidity level down so the mold just couldn't exist.   This dehumidifier stood out from all of the rest for sooo many reasons. - It features a really large water bucket, so it can remove alot of water from the air before needing emptied.  (With a nice handle!) - it can work with either the bucket, or you can hook an oridinary garden hose up to it for continuous drainage. - it has a water level indicator, and a signal light indicates when it's full. - Operates at a lower temperature than most of the other brands, and has an automatic defrost. - Has an automatic shut off when full. - Has several fan speeds. - And....a really long cord! There is more, but these fantastic features fit the bill for me.  I have had it for several months (about 9 actually), and it has operated continuously just wonderfully.  Amazingly, all the mold is gone, the musty smell disappeared, and everything is nice and dry!

Ok, I think the title is wrong on this based on my search, where this is categorized and at least one other review. This is a DE Humidifier! Anyway...we bought this guy and it had some good and bad points. On the good side -- it seemed very effective at its job -- removed lots of water and had an auto shut off. I was impressed at how well it removed water from the air and how it could be set at an appropriate level and shut off on its own. It seemed reliable and to be of decent quality and all. But there was one thing that we felt was an absolute fatal flaw -- there was nowhere on the bucket that was setup for dumping the water out. It was like they just assumed you would have a big bathtub or something to dump the water out. So, every time we went to dump the water, a bunch ended up on the floor. Pretty annoying. I hope someone at GE reads this and has their engineers fix it because it sure seems like a simple fix for an otherwise decent product.

We have a large downstairs room that is classified as a basement, but is on a slab, not underground.  This room always smelled musty and we could not figure out why.  We could smell the catbox even when it was clean!  At our wits end, we decided to try a dehumidifier in case that was the problem.  This little machine pulled out a quart of water in the first couple hours it was on.  The next morning it was full and had shut off.  We emptied it before leaving for work and then had to empty it again when we came home!  We're still trying to figure out where all the water even came from.  Now we have it turned on all the time.  You can set the humidity level you want and it will shut off automatically when it is reached.  You can also set the fan speed which helps noise level.  Some of the reviews we read before purchasing the unit said that it was noisy, but we have not found this to be the case.  It is in a busy room of the house and we don't even notice it anymore.  It can also be hooked up for continuous use with a hose and a drain, which looks like a nice feature, but we were unable to use it in our case.
