The Fisher-Price Open Top Swing is a very practical choice for anyone who is space or budget-conscious. Without the bells and whistles (sometimes literally) that accompany many baby swings, this is a much simpler product. There is a bassinet-shaped cloth pad and three-point safety strap to hold baby; there is a five-speed switch that controls the back-and-forth motion of the swing; and there are fold-up legs. That's all. Toys can be suspended from the handles, and I've often used baby links to create a "string" across the top of the swing to suspend toys. But often as not, that just annoys the baby, who is in the swing to relax, not be bombarded with toys.

If you're in the market for something that will keep your baby entertained for ages with music, lights, toys, and multiple swinging options, this isn't the choice for you. But if you want something that's nothing more than a swing, where you can safely let baby rest for a little while, this is an excellent choice. Easily fold up the legs, and the swing can be moved to another room, put in storage, or taken with you in the car. That's not going to be easy to manage with a monolith swing. We've had ours for nearly four years, and it's been through many babies in that time. If you have other children in the house, beware of them turning the swing on at every opportunity; they will eat the batteries quickly, and you will be wondering why you have to replace them so often. But it's been an enjoyable, durable addition to our collection of "necessities" for little babies.

This is going to be a horribly excellent review.Let me explain... My baby girl who was four months old about nine pounds was in the cart in walmart just being as sweet as usual, and  I always spoil great behavior so I purchased a baby swing the Fisher Price Rainforest Open Top Take-Along Swing. It is absolutely adorable and the music is perfect not too calm not too fast and it was sooooooo..... easy to assemble. Well I put my nine pound four month old baby in her swing that is for birth to twenty-five pounds. I 'm sitting on the couch while she is swinging in the middle of the living room thinking about how great this swing is for the price and I have always trusted Fisher Price products , so I pondered about how great it would be to bath, cook and clean which all new moms know is a pleasure not a necessity in these early months . Right before I am about to straighten up since my little angel was lulled to sleep by that sweet calming music the straps loosened and her little head fell in between the bars and as it swung back SLAM right on her vulnerable precious little head as I am running to her rescue she flops over NOT BREATHING bent in half. So I rushed her to her doctor which said if it wasn't for me being in the room watching her the damage could of been permanent.Any newborn baby with a hard bump to the head and then stuck bent in half where her breathing was cut off is very serious.I of course once my angel was safe called Fisher Price and explained that the edge of the seat looks as if it is supported but it is actually just sewn to appear as if it has support and the straps are not for a baby under 15 pounds who cannot hold her weight up. I am not going to go on about how they handled it but I will say it was with out compassion and did not meet any of my needs and I am in fear that they are not going to recall this product in order to fix the weight and age requirements because sadly when a company becomes too big five injuries isn't enough children hurt to send out a recall. But I will admit that if your baby can hold up his/her weight and is about 15 pounds it is a very nice swing which is hard for me to say due to my experience but I must put emotions aside and remember a review is suppose to be 100% honest or it's just an opinion

Great for at home or for travel

By

Comments about Fisher-Price Open Top Take Along Baby Swing:

We have loved this swing. It is smaller so it doesn't take up a ton of space and it can fold down to be somewhat compact for storage or traveling. Our baby loves it. She spent many nights and every nap for a time in this swing because it was the only place she would sleep. The swing is a light speed but can be turned to a faster setting depending of what the baby prefers. Our girl was fairly heavy as a baby so when the battery would get low, at the high speeds she would really be rocking at the low speed. My only wish is that this had a plug in the wall option so that we didn't have to rely on batteries all the time.

Versatility
My only complaint is that it doesn't have an option to plug into the wall.

Durability
We bought ours from a consignment store so I'm sure it has seen its fair share of use. We have used it heavily for the first few months of our baby's life.

Ease of Use
Super easy to use, just lay the baby in the seat and turn it on.

Safety
The seat is nicely curved so the baby doesn't just slide out and there is a waist belt to strap the baby in. We generally didn't use the strap because we felt she was secure enough and was also wrapped in a blanket so a strap between the legs wouldn't work so well.

Features
For a swing, this does all a swing does like go back and forth. There are fancier ones that go side to side but for a travel one you can't expect everything.

Love this swing

Comments about Fisher-Price Open Top Take Along Baby Swing:

I am rating this swing a ten because it has been a life saver for my baby. Its the only swing I can put my baby in and be able to get a few chores done while keeping her entertained.

Versatility
This swing is very versatile. Its small and portable. It can easily be put into the trunk of your car or even in the back seat for travel. It is perfect for bringing along to visit family and friends.

Durability
This swing is very durable. I have not noticed any broken parts while using this swing or after traveling with it.

Ease of Use
This swing is very easy to use. It has an open top which makes it so much easier to put your baby into. There is nothing overhead preventing them from being placed down. And there is no risk of bumping their head. My daughter also had a tendency to spring upward towards me while lifting her. Not having an overhead bar on this swing was a good thing for us.

Safety
I always felt my daughter was completely safe while utilizing this swing. It has a safety belt that is adjustable to fit your baby.

Features
I like the fact that this unit is small and can fit into small spaces. That is the best feature of all on this Fisher Price swing. It can be used indoors or outdoors.

A must have!

Comments about Fisher-Price Open Top Take Along Baby Swing:

The portability of this swing is great! I have taken mine everywhere and it always fits! We love to use this as a portable napper for our daughter when we were out so she wouldn't have to sleep in her car seat all squished. We have used it at the beach, at barbecues, and at her siblings gymnastic classes. It fits in my friends small apartments which is great when someone is baby-sitting and gives them a safe place to put her while they are pre-occupied making a bottle or such. It is really easy to use and is surprisingly durable as well! The print is cute too! It should also go without saying that you should always strap your child in when using this swing, along with any other child product that has safety straps.

Features
My only complaint is that since it is a portable swing, I wish it would offer some features for the baby or at least some type of shade attachment, since they know this will be used outside and on the go.

This is a simple, gender neutral, blessing from Baby Jesus

Comments about Fisher-Price Open Top Take Along Baby Swing:

I was given this swing my my sister in law when my son was born. She said I would NEED it. I put it in a closet, rolled my eyes a little, and thought it was totally unnecessary. THEN my son arrived. For the first few days, he didn't sleep, he didn't eat, all he did was cry. I was talking to my husband, told him I just wanted to hide in the closet...and there was the swing. I picked up the box, prayed to God it would be easy to put together (it was, only took me 5 minutes) and buckled my shrieking child into the swing and turned it on. The quiet was so sudden it was deafening. He looked around like he had never seen any of us before. The swing was a life saver. Any time he cried and we couldn't figure out why, we stuck him in that swing and he would stop. It doesn't play music, it doesn't plug into the wall so you can put it anywhere in your house, and it's really nice that it folds up almost flat and you can stash it between a couch and a wall in a small space. Thank God my sister in law knew more than me.

Fisher-Price Open Topy Take-Along a great Swing!

By

from Indianapolis, IN

Comments about Fisher-Price Open Top Take Along Baby Swing:

So I debated with myself on whether to buy a full sized baby swing or a Take-Along swing or both...I chatted with a mommy friend of mine and she said a take-along was a must have so due to money being tight we decided on just buying a Take-Along swing and I don't regret it one bit! We went with this swing for the neutral colors. The very first day we were home our little one settled into the swing and loved it so much he fell asleep! This swing was a life saver as it allowed me to get ready in the morning with the baby swinging away next me...get dinner ready, no problem! Sit the baby in the swing off to the side in the kitchen! It folded small enough to toss in the carry for visiting friends and family too. The only thing I wish it had come with was some sort of head rest, however a few rolled up burb clothes worked just as well. This is one of my favorite baby items!

Fisher-Price Open Top Take-Along Swing

By

from Schenectady, NY

Comments about Fisher-Price Open Top Take Along Baby Swing:

I was given this swing as a gift off of my baby registry. At the time, we lived in a small apartment and picked it out because I knew it wouldn't take up a lot of space in our home. I also loved the fact that I could pack it up and go when we were away visiting someone else's home. Overall, I was pleased with this swing, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that I loved it or necessarily would recommend it. There aren't too many options as far as swings go for small spaced homes. So if you are in tight quarters, this is a good option. One of the downsides to this swing is the speed. All speeds basically went the same speed, so it was hard to regulate really how fast it was swinging. Also, the music was enough to drive a person crazy! It was practical and did collapse and travel well. My baby was quite comfortable and did love being in her swing. It provided a great way for me to be able to get things done around the house!

OK travel swing

By

from Olmsted Falls, OH

Comments about Fisher-Price Open Top Take Along Baby Swing:

We got this swing as a "spare" for when our son was born.  We had a big swing, but wanted one that was more portable to take to other's houses and to use in our bedroom.  The swing is just ok for us.  It is very light weight, which makes it very portable.  However, it only seems to go at one speed, despite the options.  The seat itself isn't very supportive, especially for a new baby.  It sort of crunches the baby into the bend of the seat.  My son definitely did not like it as a newborn.  And now, he seems to have already outgrown it at 8 months (and average size).  Definitely not my favorite piece of baby equipment, but in a pinch, has done ok for us.  My son will only tolerate it for very short periods of time...say long enough for me to shower.  It also goes through batteries pretty quickly, especially since we don't seem to use it very often.  It's also pretty boring, compared to other swings.

Our Fisher Price Take Along Swing doesnt swing!

By

from Mission, KS

Comments about Fisher-Price Open Top Take Along Baby Swing:

We received 2 of these swings because we accidentily registered for it twice so people thought we wanted two. We don't like it AT ALL.  I dont know if we just got a bad one but the swing does NOT swing.  We try to get it "started" with a nudge of the foot, but it wont keep going.  It just stops.  You can hear the motor going but it wont swing.  Its very frustrating.  I will not get another one of these.  As a matter of fact, we NEVER use it now.  We solely use the bouncer that we got - Fisher Price as well.  Maybe when our son is a little bit older and heavier we will try it again.

We do like the design, the look of it, the carry-ing ability of it, and the fact that it folds up somewhat compactly.  It is difficult to fold it due to awkwardness in the shape of it.  We took in in our VERY small car with all of our other baby gear on a trip this year and it was able to fit.  The basic function of the swing not working makes it a no go.

Fisher-Price Swing is good for our needs

By

from Tuscaloosa, AL

Comments about Fisher-Price Open Top Take Along Baby Swing:

We purchased this swing because of the price. This swing only goes in one direction - forwards and backwards. I liked the idea of a swing going sideways also, but they were too expensive for us, so we decided on this one, and it has worked great for us. Our newborn had reflux, so she had to sleep propped up. So, this swing became her bed, and she loves it. The pros are that it does not take up too much space (some swings are so big!) and is very easy to assemble and disassemble. We travel with it, and it is fairly bulky to travel with, but much more compact than a lot of swings. We actually have to manually push her in the swing to get her to go to sleep because the highest setting does swing high enough for her. The seat is at a nice angle for her. One thing that would be nice is if the seat could recline back as well. Despite that, I would still get this swing merely because of the size.

Has only one speed level

By

from Sugar Land, TX

Comments about Fisher-Price Open Top Take Along Baby Swing:

I got the Fisher Price Open Top Take Along Swing as a baby shower gift. I was quite excited as it looked promising and sturdy The assembly was easy and did not require complex mumbo jumbo or lengthy instructions. The seat cover was nice and colorful. I liked that the product had seat belts, however for a 7 month old those are not sufficient. My baby used it from 3 months onwards and he was quite comfortable in it but as he grew and was able to sit up, the product became quite unsafe. The swing has only one fixed recline position so when baby tries to sit up, the swing moves forward and there is always a danger of him falling out of it. So I guess the usage for me was only for 4 months. The best part about the swing is its tropical music which has put my baby to sleep many times. However the music automatically stops after 5-10 mins and I have to switch it back again. Also the biggest con of this swing is that it has only one speed level. It advertises 5 speed levels but in reality it just runs on a constant one speed. I had to tie socks on the swing pivots to retain it from going super fast. The battery consumption is average if you don't use the music option. Pricing wise it is slightly expensive for the worth.
