Etsy is a site for people who make their own merchandise. I generally browse through the jewelry but there is a huge variety. It's easy to buy and sell on this site. I have an etsy store, though I have not tried to sell anything yet. I like to go on to look for gifts, such as nice soaps. There are so many creative ideas that make your gift so personal! Etsy.com is a great on-line marketplace to find unique, handmade items. — Purchasing: There are stores for everything: jewelry (large variety in this category), baked goods (think fudge and cookies), other foods like bbq sauces and spices, household items like candle holders and clothing for everyone in the family. I sell my own work here, or at least it's listed here, just haven't made any sales yet. But it has "great" artwork/artists if you're looking for a special gift or artwork to hang in your home. Etsy offers handmade goods, such as clothing, greeting cards, photography, paintings, etc. It is nice to know that your are getting something that is basically one of a kind. Many of the items listed are very affordable for unique pieces, but some do lean on the more pricey side. In Jan. of this year I discovered a site called ETSY. It is similar to an auction/sales site. On Etsy your dont have to bid and prices are clearly posted on all items in all shops. Etsy is a feast for the eyes and fuels the creative spirit! — I, as an artist and art shopper alike, was thrilled when a friend told me about Etsy. I like Ebay, but I believe that on Ebay, handmade, quality artwork gets lost-in-the-sauce with all of the other stuff on there. I love to paint and make jewelry in my spare time. Being a full time mom, I wanted to wanted to look for something I could do from home to put a little extra income in my pocket. If you haven't found Etsy yet...check it out NOW. It is the most extraordinary thing to hit online shopping, I think, since ebay. Etsy is a collection (a huge collection) of artists, craftspeople, and generally extraordinarily creative folk who post their wares for purchase from all over the world. i am in USA. i always prefer amazon.com. but for indian things it is not preferable. many indian things i used to buy on net like sari, suits and cricket things. all indian sites hav poor response in usa including indiatimes and rediff. Etsy.com has got to be one of the best places for crafters and artists of nearly any type of item to sell their items on-line. The site is a conglomeration of nearly any type of crafted item you can think of including vintage items! I sell vintage items, my handcrafted items and crafting supplies on etsy as well as another large auction website (can you guess which one? lol) and I have better results selling on Etsy than I do with the other place! Etsy is a great site for handmade goods. The sellers here are all so wonderful and have great customer service. There's something for everybody here, no matter what you love. If you can't find what you're looking for, many sellers offer to make custom items for you. — The only problem I have with this site is the search. If I look for a necklace, the search doesn't just pull up necklaces, but earrings and bracelets and buttons. I heard about this site through my sister about a year and a half ago. I never thought that I would love it so much! I have gotten things handmade for me that I couldn't get anywhere else. Whatever you want you can post it in one of the forums and get whatever you want made by professionals! The work that some of these people do is outstanding. As a buyer and a seller, Etsy is my go-to venue. The products there are made by people who really care about what they do. From all-natural soaps and bath products to pottery, to fabulous paintings and jewelry, there is something for everyone. It is especially nice to deal directly with the makers. This site is similar to ebay, minus the auction process, because you can find many unique items in all categories. I have bought several items from Etsy and all of the seller's had great communication, personalized items (like fabric and to the size I wanted, not just limited to what's listed), great quality and great prices.
