Back in the old days, when there were still cows grazing in fields here in the Chicago metropolitan area, we used to love cottage cheese which was much more popular back then. Sometimes in the summer, we would chop up fresh chives and add them to this great dairy snack. I can't remember the last time I bothered to chop up fresh chives for **anything** but somebody else remembers the old days too and so it is possible to buy ***Dean's Cottage Cheese with Chives***. **WHAT THIS IS:** ***Dean's Cottage Cheese with Chives ***is small curd, 4% fat, cottage cheese mixed with TINY pieces of chives and it is almost as good as the stuff we used to fork up back when Eisenhower was President. **STATS:** A half cup is a single serving which contains 110 calories with 40 calories from fat. There are 4.5 grams Total Fat, 3 grams Saturated Fat, zero Trans Fat, 25 mg. Cholesterol, 480 mg. Sodium, 4 grams Total Carbs, zero Dietary Fiber, 3 grams Sugars, and 12 grams Protein, along with 4% (D.V.) Vitamin A, 2% Vitamin C, and 10% Calcium. **TASTE TIP:** Despite the fact that ***Dean's Cottage Cheese with Chives ***already contains 20% of the Sodium d.v. for the day, I sprinkle just the smallest dash of Lawry's Seasoned Salt and a liberal dose of black pepper on top which really enhances the flavor of this beloved dairy food. **MY VIEWPOINT:** ***Dean's Cottage Cheese with Chives ***is not really low in calories or fat, and it has more sodium than most people realize, but it is an excellent source of protein and calcium ... and delicious besides.
