Reliable modem that appears to give me good speeds

4

Bought this one from one of the major retail stores and it has worked perfectly ever since. Seems to give me good speeds, but hard to say how much things have improved since the older 2.0 modems. All in all, a good modem that doesn't cost and arm and a leg.

High performance

5

I had a lower cost taiwanese cable modem that failed a few weeks ago during a thunderstorm. I thought it had worked well, but overall my internet performance could have been better. I decided to get the Motorola modem because several of my friends had them and everyone seemed happy. Even better, no one I knew had one fail. I bought mine and hooked it up and then the magic started. it took a while to get the cable company to authorize the new device. When that what was completed, the right lights came on and wow. My speeds went up by 50% and when I measure the QOS, virtually every parameter was better. The modem is stable and just works. I a way it is not dramatic- which in many ways is a pleasant experience. I am hoping it will prove to be reliable in the thunderstroms. It has a good footprint and doesn't get hot as my old modem.

Quality Cable Modem

5

I purchased this cable modem after getting sick and tired of my old DSL provider (and unreliable service/modem/router) and moving to cable. This has worked great since the beginning. I did have the cable company come out and install my cable (just so that I could not be blamed if my internet did not work). It was easily set up and connected very quickly. You do have to have a separate router with this modem (from what I have read, most cable modem and routers in one have more issues than they are worth). The connection speeds are very fast with this router and it is actually the preferred modem of my cable provider. It can be kind of expensive, but if you watch for sales, you can get a good deal on it and save yourself some money on a good cable modem. In the end, I would definitely recommend getting this cable modem along with high speed cable internet as it is definitely worth every single penny.

Channel Bonding is great! +Comcast setup Instructions

5

Firstly, the channel bonding is definitely noticeable. I went from a model-year 2000 Motorola SB4200 to this modem. Using a bandwidth tester, my downstream automatically went from 12mbps to 20mbps, sustained! What was more impressive though, was the upstream bandwidth--jumped from 1.4 mbps to 4-5! I don't believe Comcast has my area serviced with DOCSIS 3.0 just yet, but I know it's coming soon. As far as setup goes, this is what I did: 1) Connect your cable modem to everything, and plug in the ethernet to your computer directly. Try to avoid sending your coax cable through any splitters. My house has the coax coming in from a pole so I can visually ensure this. 2) Plug it in, and wait for all the LEDs to light up. On a PC, type in CMD in the run command box, and type in ipconfig. On a mac, simply check the network pane in the system preferences. 3)You should see your external IP address. If you see anything like 192.168.XXX.X, wait a little longer and try again. It look about 6 minutes for my modem to assign my computer the external IP. 4)If steps 1-3 have worked successfully, then all is well because you are physically connected and working! All that's left is the MAC-address registration. If you open a web browser, an activation page should load. You'll have the option of activating as a customer or a technician. I chose technician because the customer activation had me downloading some sort of clunky software. 5)Now make sure you enter your account information correctly. Go through the steps. At some point, the page will perform a diagnostic test. If you're a geek like me, you can check some of the values like the SNR, TX, RX levels against this guide [...] 6)If you decide to connect your modem to a router (which I'd guess most people would do), make sure you reboot your modem after you reconnect your ethernet cable into your router's WAN port. At any time, you can access the router diagnostic page by typing in 192.168.100.1 It's quite handy. Hope this helps!

Motorola SB6120: Blazing Fast Speed Comes at a Price

4

My cable provider (comcast) recently offered my area a deal on one of their more expensive performance plans and I immediately wanted. However, my previous model - the Motorola SB5101 - was unable to utilize the extra bandwidth that the plan provided. The CSR told me that I would need a DOCSIS 3 modem, so my search began soon after, searching out for a DOCSIS 3 compatible modem. I found said modem in the Motorala SB6120 SURFboard modem. Being DOCSIS 3 ready, it means it is backwards compatible with previous versions and is future-proofed to DOCSIS 3 as it rolls out in your area (if you don't already have it). The maximum speed of DOCSIS 3.0 is upwards of 160Mbps, crushing the previous speeds of DOCSIS 2 (around 30Mbps). After using the modem for a few months now I am very impressed with it. However, that said, the price of the modem is nearly double that of the Motorola DOCSIS 2 offerings. This price premium is hard to justify when the devices use similar materials in construction - the extra price feels like a real rip-off to me as a consumer.

Motorola does it again!!!

4

I purchased this modem to replace an older D-Link modem that I previously owned. I chose this newer DOCSIS 3.0 modem so that I would pretty much have a "future proof" cable modem. I've always used Motorola cable modems in the past but I never really appreciated how reliable and fast they were until I bought the cheap D-Link that I replaced. If you have a solid internet package, along with a very fast computer, and if the internet provider in your area supports DOCSIS 3.0, it could work very fast for you. The modem made a huge impression on me after I installed it. Every time I click on a link on a web page, it loads up very fast. If you are a real gamer and play video games like Call of Duty online, you will have a serious reaction time advantage. This is a great modem to use if you have a high speed internet package. I have heard that some firmware updates have caused problems with this modem so be sure to check with your provider if it is compatible. Other than that, I love this modem.

motorola cable modem

we have recently moved back to my wifes home town, after being in ky my whole life it is a major change for me, so i promised my family that i would get a good internet connection so we could still keep in touch and send them pictures, videos and art work from our children. we decided to go with cable internet because from what we researched it is a very reliable and consistant connection. when we first got it installed the modem that we got with the company wasn't the best and we thought that maybe our connection had issues, so we talked to a few people about it and her sister said that the same thing happened to them when they first moved into their new home and that the problem probably wasn't the company or connection itself that for her it was the modem and router. so we decided that it would be cheaper to buy a new modem then to go to a different compnay and have something else installed. so we went with the motorola sb6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3,0 eXtreme Broadband Cable Modem, best choice for us. the connection is faster then anything i have ever seen or used, i would definately recommend!

I needed something to help me access the internet with the speed and quality that I have been accustomed to. I decided to purchase the Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme Broadband Cable Modem to assist me with this neccessity. I was pleasantly surprised when it lived up to its advertising and did all that it was supposed to do. I have quick and clear access and setting it up was very easy. The directions were easy to understand and the diagrams helped me get my computer up and running with the new Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme Broadband Cable Modem. It was compatible with my system and very efficient to use. I have no problems to report with the Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme Broadband Cable Modem. Expensive but worth every penny

5

This is a great cable modem very easy to set up and running. I was slightly nervous when I bought this cable modem because prior reviews listed issues with achieving authentication, especially in areas that don't yet offer DOCSIS 3.0. I purchased it expecting that Comcast (my ISP) will be upgrading service in my area to DOCSIS 3.0 soon and figured this would save me money in the long run (instead of renting one or buying a 2.0 then buying a 3.0 in the future). The gigabit ethernet works great with my wireless-G router, although I think I'll have to upgrade to wireless-N once DOCSIS 3.0 is in my area. An additional benefit is that websites are loading much faster. This is one of the easiest "tech" installations I have ever done. If it continues to work this well over time, I will say it was well worth the money spent. The SB6120 is up to 4 times faster than DOCSIS(R) 2.0 broadband cable modems making it capable of reaching data rates up to 150 Mbps. That makes gaming, shopping, downloading, working, high-quality voice and video conferencing, and peer-to-peer networking applications -- far more realistic, faster. This one is designed to provide a cost effective, next generation technology to offer a high speed residential or commercial service tier. It features a 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Port for incredible wired network speeds. This was a timely and well worth it upgrade. The modem will pay for itself in approximately one year.
