Motorola SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem is an awesome cable modem. A few of my friends and I own it. We are able to get insane speeds. Well, insane to me is around 21Mbps down, because they do not offer FiOS over here. (frowns) However, if you are looking for something better and you are currently a DSL user wanting to switch over to Cable internet, and you do not want to rent a cable modem, then this modem is the best there is. Price wise it is worth it, because you will get speeds that you never imagined. Yeah it is not a T1 line, or T3, or something that you would go crazy over, but at home, this is fast enough. Ironically I would still say it is too slow, but that is because I am greedy for speed. Haha, anyway, if you do not live alone, and have roommates, whether it is your parents, brothers and sisters, or just friends, cable is the way to go, and this modem is the way to go.  I would not buy any other modem besides this one.

I got this modem around the first week of january 2011 to replace the rental modem from my ISP. The router I was using before it was an old DOCSIS 1.0 with speeds about 3mbps download and 1mbps upload at best on speedtest.com. However I was getting billed for 12mbps speeds. So after some research, I found out that my modem was considered end of life or discontinued as of the same month, and that my area has DOCSIS 3.0 capabilities. So I searched the net for a cheap yet effective modem to replace my old one so that I wouldn't have to pay the rental fee from the ISP. I chose this modem because many people have reported speed gains after switching and that this is a reliable product. After purchasing and setting up this modem, I found my speeds skyrocket to 18mbps download and 3mbps upload which isn't that bad considering that I am being charged for 12mbps. My best reasoning for purchasing this product was that it pays for itself in a little over a year which would have been spend on rent and performs a lot better. However, after a week or two the speeds mellowed to about 15mbps and has stablized which I am still fine with probably after my ISP reconfigured the modem to my billing speeds. It was really easy to set up, and calling my ISP was as simple as reciting the MAC numbers on the box and within less than ten minutes I was already surfing the net. Almost one month and I haven't power cycled once. It's size is nice and small. It comes with all the basic cables and requires no installation disc to work with my router. Overall I am very satisfied with this product and do not see any flaws. I would recommend this for people who need to replace their current/outdated/rented modem, are not quite getting the speeds projected on their bill, and would like to try to boost their speeds without increasing their ISP billing package.

I have had the privilege of owning the Motorola SB6120 cable modem for several months! Everything was a snap to switchover from my older SB modem. No extra software or drivers were needed, just connect wires & power on. My connection has remained very consistent & stable from day one. Don't be suprised to notice speeds beyond what you are paying for as an added bonus. There is a brilliant set of colored LED lights on the front of the device to keep you well informed. A nice detailed diagnostics screen can be viewed easily by typing an address in your browser. To obtain the maximum capability of this modem i would recommend connecting to a gigabit router/pc. If needed a large owners manual was included which can also be found online. I've enjoyed owning this device so far & will for many years to come! Get all the new upgrades in internet speeds available today & in future by upgrading to this new DOCSIS 3.0 modem now!

I had a problem for the last few months where my internet would just stop working or close on me.  This was quite frustrating.  I found out from calling our local cable, internet, and phone provider that we needed to get a new updated modem that would receive updates from their system.  I found out that our old modem had been "blacklisted" meaning that it was so old that it could no longer receive updates.  The Motorola Surfboard DOCSIS 3.0 or 6120 has so far been a dream.  It was easy to install, and I am not technology saavy.  Basically I took it out of the box, followed the easy 3 step diagrammed instructions, and then inserted the CD that came with with the installation instructions.  I followed the online screen prompts, and it walked me through registering my product.  That sent that information to my cable company and off I was able to go using the internet, and I honestly have not had any internet connectivity problems since.

I bought this modem back in february and had no problems with it. gets a fast stable connection and has a better connection than the more basic version of the surfboard. The ability to bond to multiple channels allows for the faster connections but you should only buy it if your cable companys network is upgraded enough where its worth buying it for higher speeds. Motorola has real nice customer service because in October my internet started acting funny and they sent me a replacement to make sure it wasn't the modem. ended up being something with my actual cable line but the customer service people were very nice about it. Otherwise it is a great modem worth the price and very easy to set up and use. you pretty much just plug it in and its ready to go. A little tip is if the send and receive lights are flashing together it means your modem isn't registering on your cable network and you need to call them to register it or you may have a connection problem. doesn't always mean something is wrong with the modem.
