Not a good buy

I am trying to go green, I saw Toms and thought I would give it a shot. The next day I showered, and applied the deodorant like normal. The feel of it was that of slimy snot, it should have been a turn-off right away! It did have a light lavender scent to it when I first applied it. However not even halfway into my workday I could smell bad body odor. Also it does not stop the wetness, my armpits were quite wet from perspiration, and I am not one that perspires much. I gave Toms another try thinking it was a fluke, and unfortunately it was not. It did not curb the odor, even though it claims 24 hour protection. I told my herbalist about my experience, and she stated she has had many clients have similar experiences that I did. I must add that it is a natural product, right on the bottle it states it's aluminum free, there is no animal testing, they also share every ingredient, its source, and what it does on their website, which is pretty cool.. I had high hopes for this deodorant, but it let me down.

Big Fan of Tom's!

This product was absolutely righteous when it came to my arm pits! No smell for the entire day! And little to no sweat. It was worth the buy, and the fact that it is aluminum free is even better! In most occasions I would just make it homemade and say screw wasting money at the drug store, but this one was a worthy buy for me. I won't buy it forever, I plan to go 100% natural. But until then, this is a #1 choice for an antiperspirant buy!

Great , but beware of using it just after shaving!!

I dont like to use antiperspirants because I have read a lot of bad thong about them, but finding a product that is just deodorant (wothout antiperspirant) had been really hard until I found thi product. It works great for me. It lasts all day long and keeps me smelling nice and because its kind of natural I feel Im doing something good for myself. I must say that I have applied it once or twice AFTER having shaved my armpits and it burned like hell! My armpits became really red and itchy and were sore for around an hour or so. I certainly would not recommend to use it like that: BEWARE OF SHAVING AND USING IT JUST AFTERWARDS! Now I shave at night and apply the deodorant in the morning and problem solved!

Worse than no deodorant at all

Is it even remotely possible to find a natural deodorant that comes even slightly close to doing its job? I purchased this product because I have been searching for an aluminium-free deodorant that actually works like it is supposed to.This, it seems, is not the product I am looking for. The few times I wore this deodorant I was not doing any sort of strenuous activity, nor was I in any sort of extreme heat, and yet somehow at the end of the day I smelled worse then if I had not been wearing deodorant at all. The lavender fragrance smells nice at first, but after a few hours it takes on a sort of ammonia smell, similar to cat urine. It also made me itch severely and made the skin under my arms flake and peel. Like, armpit dandruff. Kind of disgusting, really. I will not be using this product again in the future. The search for a working natural, aluminium free deodorant continues.

great smell, still sweaty a little

So I have tried a number of different deoderants and anti-perspirants over the years. Some have been itchy when I sweat, most leave white residue on my clothes that doesn't come off in the wash, and some smell foul after a while. Tom's of maine deoderants all smell the same in my opinion, with very little differences between the different fragrances. That said, however, I really like this product because it doesn't make me itchy in the least - the natural ingredients probably help make it hypoallergenic. It can leave a residue on clothes making the clothes look wet but it goes away in the wash for the most part. As far as sweating is concerned. If I'm really hot, then yes I feel the moisture, but for the most part it's fine. It's way better than the non-natural commercial brands with very long lists of ingredients and has a natural smell too - even though there might be less variety of scents.

Doesn't stand up to the hot flashes!

I love the Tom's of Maine line so I decided to try the Tom's of Maine Long Lasting Stick Deodorant in the Lavender scent. I prefer to use a deodorant rather than an antiperspirant because of the aluminum that's present in most antiperspirants. I thought I could use this long lasting product for odor but it only last four to five hours. After that it gives out and I'm not necessarily in a place where I can reapply at work. To make matters worse, I've started having hot flashes throughout the day and this definitely doesn't stand up to all of those changes in temperatures. i will keep this and use it on weekends when I am around the house and will be able to put it on multiple times throughout the day. I do like the smell of the this product and just wish it were a little bit more effective on odor. I think I'll need to go back to a regular old deodorant and antiperspirant combo until the hot flashes are under control.

The smell is lovely

This is my all-time favorite deodorant that has ever existed. It works well and the smell is fantastic. I love that I don't smell like a baby (like most mainstream brands make you smell). I think it is kind of pedophilic that companies think our men want us to smell like children. Anyways, that is why I like Tom's deodorant. No baby fresh scent here, but real smells like Lavender, Apricot, Woodspice, etc. The lavender is my favorite, it smells great and really keeps you from smelling so much. It's not an anti-perspirant, keep that in mind if you are going to use during times of heavy sweating, it won't keep you dry. But I'm paranoid about aluminum and breast cancer so I choose not to use anti-perspirant as I don't sweat very often anyways. Tom's is the best company too, with excellent customer service. We bought a different deodorant once that we didn't like and they sent us a new one that we did like, no questions asked.

Tom's deodorant solves a problem

I first became aware of this product when a Viewpoints friend reviewed it. It has its imperfections; however, when I stumbled upon it at a local store, I decided to give it a try. I'm real glad I did!. I'm a breast cancer survivor, so I'm kind of careful what type of deodorants I use. I don't find many alternatives to the common anti-perspirant brands available at local stores, so I'm limited. A few name brands offer plain deodorant, so that's what I usually ended up using. They are awful! Odor protection doesn't last long, plus after I use one for a while, it stops working altogether and I have to switch brands. Worse, they all make me itch. It's a nasty itch. I figured Tom's couldn't be any worse than my normal deodorant experiences, so I bought one. It's almost gone now, and I'll definitely buy more. For one thing, it has continued to work for me, faithfully. It still works the way it did when I first started using it, so at least I know what to expect and can continue to use this one brand. I can count on it to protect me for at least half the day. For me, that's good. Secondly, I love the scent of lavender. Lastly, it doesn't make me itch -- at all! That is so nice. I've finally found a comfortable deodorant that I can rely on for a specific period of time, consistently. I'm happy.

A natural disaster... (on me)!

I really tried to love this product. I think that's why I gave it a try for the last 2 years.. albeit off and on. I couldn't figure out why my underarms were always red, peeling, and sometimes itchy. I am very interested in natural products and that is why I gravitated towards Toms of Maine. I experimented with other natural brands of deoderant but had even worse reactions, so I guess this one is better in that sense. I've also tried several other versions of Toms of Maine, including this unscented and apricot, and my reactions to those products were almost immediate. I purchased crystal rock (the kind you have to wet with water to apply) and have been using it interchangeably with Tom's for the past few weeks. Eventually, I stopped using the Tom's altogether and suddenly my issues have gone. It's quite amazing! Since stopping, I've also noticed that I have no residue on my shirts and/or discoloration that is typical from other deoderants. Oddly enough, I also sweat less, which I suspect may be due to the fact that what I initially presumed to be perspiration may have actually been part of my reaction. Those of you with skin allergies and sensitivities should understand what I mean. In any event, you should be very careful if you decide to use this product. I think the fragrances are great and natural. You smell clean and fresh, and the product contains no aluminum. However, if you react, don't be like me. Stop using the product.. don't wait three years!

Tom's Deodorant didn't work for me, but I wanted to like it.

Finding deodorant without aluminum in it is difficult. I have seen rumors saying that traditional drugstore deodorants - that is, the ones you can actually find and that are cheap - can cause breast cancer because of the aluminum and chemicals they use to stop you from sweating and to deodorize. It can also clog up the pores, and sometimes ends up leaving residue on shirts and the like. I was very excited to try Tom's of Maine Natural Deodorant because it does not have aluminum, which, like I said, might cause health problems. The smell of this deodorant is very pleasant, and it actually does do a good job of holding back the smell of armpit sweat. I did not find that I needed to reapply any more often than "normal." I appreciate the company's morals and that they give information on every one of their ingredients online, too. Plenty of other Tom's of Maine products have worked great for me in the past. If I like the company and the smell, and it works, why am I giving this two stars? Unfortunately, this stuff makes my armpits itch and burn painfully. I was fine with this for a week or so before the problems started, unfortunately. I wanted so badly to love it, and DID at first. Unfortunately I can't get over the discomfort. I don't normally use "sensitive" deodorants or anything and hadn't experienced problems like this before. Tom's does get my respect for sending a sensitive skin version of their deodorant when I wrote to tell them about my issues, so the company IS very responsive and backs their products. So, know that you can try it and if it does not work for you then the company will be responsive and helpful. If you're worried, just start with the sensitive version (which works great for me).
