I love moon dough so much more than playdough!!!

4

I love Moon Dough - I am getting rid of all the play dough in the house. Play dough sticks into all parts and is hard to clean up - moon dough is a snap to clean up - sweep it into a plastic zip lock & vacuum anything left over. My Son, LOVES this stuff, can play with it forever, building the 'wrecking'. (my son is 3-4yr old) The Farm set I like - he LOVES the barn and the animals to make. The animals are a little hard for him to push into the mold and they don't always pop out when you turn the handle - most of the time I make the animals for him, he can make the other moldable things (hay bale, fence) & I leave him to 'wreck' them and play.

Not even worth one star

*We bought some of the individual packs of moon dough and the Spinmaster Moon Dough Magic Barnyard for our daughter at Christmas. She loves playing with play dough but it tends to dry out. So, we thought we would give this a try. We opened it to play with it a couple of days after Christmas and were extremely disappointed with it. It crumbled horribly and left little pieces everywhere despite following the instructions perfectly. Our hands turned the color of the moon dough that we were handling. It took several applications of soap and water to finally rinse the color and the feel of the moon dough from our hands. We had already thrown the boxes away because it was supposedly from SClaus. So, unfortunately, we could not take it back for a refund. We thought about donating it to a women and childrens shelter but did not want anyone else to be tortured with it. If I could have rated this with zero stars, I would have done so but it would not let me.*

Fun but a disappointmet

My 3 1/2 year old son loves the moon dough.  It has a great texture feel to it ..can be crumbly but once kneeded like bread it sticks better.  it has bright colors and even though it crumbles it is easy to clean up.  My disappointment was when you place the dough in the top of the barn you have to press it in very firmly, then you have to turn the crank just right or the pieces get stuck in the barn and you have to dig the dough out.  Needless to say at that point you can't tell what animal you have created.  It would almost be easier just to have the animal molds instead of putting them into the barn to be molded.   Even though I have to help him get the animals molded ..he does love playing with it.

What a Mess!!

It looked great on the commercial, but after getting I wish that I had not.  The little pieces of moon dough get everywhere!!  I think I would just rather play with play dough even though it dries out.

An Outdoor Toy!

2

My 3-year-old son was very happy to get this Christmas morning.  His 8-year-old sister was just as happy.  I set them up in the kitchen, knowing it would be somewhat messy.  I thought it would be "play-dough messy."  Boy, was I wrong.  There were bits of moon dough EVERYWHERE.  I attempted to make the animals several times and had success about 3 out of 10 times.  Despite packing the dough in the mold just as the instructions tell you, the dough doesn't always move down the shoot when the crank is turned.  Slow, fast, medium--we tried it all.  The animals were cool when they did work, that's why I bothered to leave any stars at all.  I have decided this is definitely an outdoor toy.  Though the dough picks up easily, there was so much of it that it really wasn't worth it.  It does crumble very easily and it did not leave any permenant damage.  My kids enjoyed it when it worked, but were frustrated that it didn't work often.  They are patient kids and gave it a shot--even sat patiently while I tried.  It was not the big "wow" we were hoping for, but my son does ask to play it every now and again.  It's been too cold for us to sit outside with it now, but we will try it again when the weather warms up.  I don't think it was worth the price, but I will reserve my totally bad review until I've given it another chance.  It is messy though--that won't change.

no magic in Spinmaster Moon Dough Magic Barnyard

2

My daughter asked for a moon dough playset for  Christmas and we got her the "Spinmaster Moon Dough Magic Barnyard" My first complain is that the material is not like regular dough it is like powdery substance that seems to mold together into  shape but only if you use the barnyard or a mold. If the kids try to mold a shape just by using their hands, the so call dough substance falls apart and makes a mess which brings me to my second complain, by the time my kids stopped playing with the "dough" it was all over the table and floor. I spent about 20 minutes collecting it and trying to store it according to color. I am sure at one point  all three colors will become one!!! The barnyard works pretty good and the shapes come out good but if you drop them or are not gentle when picking them up they fall apart like a sand castle- The handle on the barnyard tends to come off if it is handled too roughly(which will happen with toddlers) so I had to pop it back several times- For the price of 14.99  you should get more than three colors and there should be resealable bags or storage containers for each color- Will not buy this type pf product again!!

Kids like it, Mom deals with it

Well, the best thing about Moon Dough is that the kids enjoy playing with it.  They like its bright colors, and that it's softer and less sticky than traditional Play Doh.  The molds are easy to use, and the kids like how detailed the barnyard animals looked.  It doesn't dry out, so the molds are easy to use over and over again, without having to pick out dried pieces of dough.  On the negative side, it can be a bit difficult to clean up.  We use ours at the kitchen table, where the floor is tiled.  It sweeps up easily, but if it gets tracked onto the hallway carpet, it's hard to pick it out, especially since it doesn't dry.  The kids were a little frustrated that they couldn't mix colors into the mold, to make animals like the ones pictured on the box.  I'm not sure how those animals were made, but mixing the colors just made a messy mix of colors, not a neatly spotted  cow.  They were also a bit annoyed that it didn't lend itself to rolling, cutting, or really using any other type of tools, except for the molds.  It's not a bad toy, if you have a smooth place to play with it, and it's a decent value for an hour of fun now and then.

well detailed play dough

spinmaster moon dough magic barnyard really impressed me. i was expecting something less fascinating but was really able to get into play with this kit and my kids. the moon dough is very easy to mold and keep together , more or less just dab it together to pick up loose pieces and press. the barn kit itself was super cute, it has a magic animal maker where you put moon dough in and slowly turn the crank and out pop a chicken, cow, horse, or somethig else.. a pig maybe., very fun and exciting to see what will come out. kids were all smiles. you can push the loose/extra moondough from the top right into the silo so it easily catches it for an easier cleanup. it also comes with a hay making mold which was very easy for both my children to use and a fence making mold as well. my son loves to just make a bunch of fences for a corall while i make some animals for him to put in there. sometimes you have to tap on the molds to get them to release but they do and the detail stays,

Moon Dough magic barn is not as fun as it could be!!

My son wanted the Moon Dough Magic Barnyard for Christmas.  Against my bettr judgement I let his Grandparents get it for him.  It's been days and I'm still cleaning up moon dough.  The kids couldn't make animals with the barnyard.  Well, they could, but they all came out deformed.  Animals with no heads and feet are not fun to play with.  Besides who ever saw blue and yellow animals??  My daughter is five and could only make pieces of multi-colored fence!! After careful practise I could make a half-decent animal come out about half of the time.  But there's no way my kids can do it.  The moon dough has to be pushed way down in all the crevises and the crank has to be slowly turned.  I now have moon dough tracked all through my carpet even though I carefully laid down layers of news paper.  The up side is that we now have about half as much as we started with and I wont have to deal with it too many more times!!

The Good and the Bad

My 3-year-old enjoys playing with Moon Dough.  It is a product that is similar to play-dough but does not dry out when left out the way that play-dough does.  My daughter enjoyed creating the animals out of the Moon Dough just by pushing them into the barn.  The concept is great!  In reality there are a few cons however. 1.  Moon Dough is crumbly.  It literally gets everywhere much quicker than play-dough does. 2.  Moon Dough is hard to get out of carpets and upholstry.  It sticks into the fibers and doesn't just sit on the surface.  I would suggest using this product somewhere you can sweep up easily. 3.  This particular Moon Dough product does not come with any containers for the Moon Dough.  Once you open the plastic bag that it comes it and your child plays with it, you will have to find 3 seperate containers for the 3 colors to go in.  Ziploc baggies are working OK for us, but it would be nice to have an actual container included with the product. 4.  The barn gets jammed easily so my 3-year-old couldn't push the Moon Dough down by herself.  An adult always needed to be near to unjam the barn.
