As long as I can remember from about 7th grade on, I have used Singer sewing machines.  My mom had the old treddle machine in it's 4 drawer wooden cabinet.  That's how I learned to sew.  Then for graduation, my parents gave me my own Singer in a nice carrying case to go off to college.  Since then I have owned 3 other machines, 2 of which were Singers.  There is no way I could have made it through life without my Singers.  I have really enjoyed the CG-550 and it has been just as reliable as all of my other Singers.  I have always passed my other Singers on to family members or friends and sometimes end up with them back in my posession to share again. My most recent machine, the CG-550, has helped me tremendously as we have moved into our new home.  I have been able to make all the curtains for all the rooms and covers for pillows to match as well as other items.  This machine is very durable and I plan to have it for many years to come.

Remember the Work Horse Singer Touch n Sew?

5

This machine is just as strong if not stronger than the old Singer Touch N Sew that lasted decades. It sews faster, and goes through layers of denim like butter. Ok, not like butter, because if I put butter in my sewing machine, I'd have a major mess, but you get the idea. It doesn't chug and skip through heavy materials, it just sews happily along. The lightest chiffons are no problem at all. What I also love...it's cabinet mountable. I put it in my old 1970's cabinet and I'm thrilled. I love this sewing machine, I use it for hours and hours every week. It goes and goes and goes. The bobbins are wonderful because they are a one peice bobbin unlike the old touch n sew bobbins that were two peice screw together types that wore out rather quickly. These bobbins just don't wear out. The only time I've had a bobbin break was when my dog got hold of one and crunched it into little pieces. I love to purchase about 50 bobbins and keep them wound with common colors of thread, so I can do a quick bobbin change. If your looking for the machine of your dreams that is a basic model that does everything you really need, and you want it to last for years and years and years, this is the machine for you. I did reseach on it for several months before I bought it, and I've never been disappointed.
