My dentist gave me a sample of these "funny-looking toothpicks" at my last visit. Stim-U-Dents come in a cute matchbook-style package and are supposed to help remove plaque between teeth and stimulate gums. The only problem I have with them is that they only work on certain teeth. Because of their thickness, there's no way they can fit into many of the tight spaces of my mouth. Stim-U-Dents are meticulously smoothed and shaped, with a minty taste. You moisten one in your mouth and then basically use it like a toothpick to scrape away plaque from between teeth. It worked very well in the areas where it fit, but I guess my teeth are more closely spaced than average. In no time at all, the Stim-U-Dent begins to bend and splinter and you have to use a fresh one to finish. Another issue is that you can only use one side of the Stim-U-Dent; you can't flip it over like a toothpick. That limitation means the plaque remover isn't as efficient as it could be. Overall, it's an okay product but it doesn't do a better job for me than my regular dental floss. I do like the gum stimulation it provides, so that would be the main reason I'd buy more when my sample runs out.
