I got this rice cooker as a St.nicks's gift and I think my mom got it the day after Thanksgiving really cheaply. I've had it for a while and it does cook rice, but it takes a while to learn the tricks you need to do that. First off, you need to put in more water than what the recipe book calls for. I can't recall exactly what that is but I find if you  use that ratio the rice is dry and crunchy. Secondly, you have to put more rice in it than what you want because the rice on the bottom will stick to the pot and burn so plan ahead. Third, the cooker likes to shut off before I think the rice is cooked and is finicky about starting up again. You have to really make sure that the cover is on securely and press the button down firmly and repeatedly to start it up again. All that said, it is good for small quantities of rice and works fairly quickly. It is also extremely easy to clean because the pot can be pulled out of the main portion. Bottom line: do you want a cheap fairly reliable rice cooker for small quantaties and don't mind losing a bit every time? This is for you.

this has been a great rice cooker. pretty inexpensive and have had no problems with it. i cook brown rice which is also hard to cook and it does well. you just have to have enough water for your rice. 1 1/4 cup of water per 1 cup of brown rice.
