hp deskjet all-in-one does it all and quickly

5

I love the all in one hp deskjet. It does everything I could need and quickly. It prints pages quickly and efficiently - although it does not hold a lot of paper at one time, but it holds enough for anything that I would be printing from my home. The ink seems to last much longer than it did in other printers I have had - and the ink cartriges that it takes are the cheapest hp cartridges around. The scanner works great - although sometimes it is a little slow to start up, once it gets going it's fine. The copier is one of my favorite features. It does not have to be hooked to the computer to use the copier and it quickly prints the copy with no problems - can control color or black and white right on the printer. One drawback to the printer is there is often driver/software issues which requires the driver to be updated or reinstalled and can be frustrating - but it does not happen all that often and is quickly fixed - this may be due to problems with it being connected to my dell laptop.

HP All-In-One Printers and Windows 7: A Fair Warning

2

I've had this printer for several years now.  It was a good price at the time and taking that into consideration, I really have few complaints with the printer itself.  It scans photos well, it copies items well, and it prints well.  I regularly print photos and other items requiring some measure of fine detail.  It once printed quite fast but as the years have worn on it, it's slowed down, as is to be expected.  Overall, though, it's been a fairly good little printer and easy on ink...until recently. The two star has everything to do with the company itself.  HP simply is not updating drivers.  What does that mean?  If you're looking for a printer, get the absolute newest model on the market, as this one will not work unless you're intending to use something other than Windows 7 -- XP, 2000, and ME work well with this printer (not sure about Vista), as does Ubuntu's Linux.  However, due to the lack of driver updates, the printer is merely functional and barely so.  Windows 7 will not recognize it as a multi-function machine, even when installed in compatibility mode, and I now have to use Linux to scan all of my photos.  If I want to print something in grayscale, too bad.  If I want to change the type of paper or quality of the print job, too bad.  Every setting is stuck in stone and cannot be changed. I'm fairly savy with computers and used to work in computer repair, so this isn't a problem due to my inabilty to properly install the software or drivers.  It's a reported, known problem across the board and the general response I've met with is "Nobody cares, buy a newer printer." My printer is still functional with other operating systems and still works with Win7, just takes away much of the usability and purpose behind having an all-in-one.  If it was purely based on durability, I'd give this little beast 5 stars.  Functionality through the company's lack of interest, though, really hurts it.

This HP f4140 is not worth the time. It is always resetting and wanting to be reinstalled! It takes forever and stalls. I would never buy this printer again. The ink is kind of pricey too. Save yourself some money and get something better.
