We picked up the Fridgidaire window unit last summer after our old central air unit went out, intending to use it until we could have a new outside unit installed. It ended up working well enough that we just decided to install more window units throughout the house. It gets hot in the summer on the Gulf Coast, and the AC runs almost constantly from June through September, but instead of cooling the entire house, all of the time, we have been able to save energy and lower our power bill by closing off rooms during the day, and only cooling the bedrooms at night. This unit comes with a remote, which we have never found particularly useful, but I can see where it might come in handy for some households. Installation was easy, and we've actually been more comfortable these last two summers than we were using the central air. It can be a bit noisy at times, but we've found it to be a reasonable trade-off for the comfort and energy savings that the switch to window units brought us.
