I moved to a place where everybody told me I wouldn't need air conditioning. They lied. I'm a renter, so installing whole house a/c was not an option. Fans weren't cutting it. I knew I wasn't going to need a/c for very long, but I didn't want to be miserable for even one more day. I broke down and bought this unit and have never regretted it. The manual is very straight-forward and installation was easier than I anticipated. It rested comfortably on my sill without brackets. I was concerned that bugs would come in around the sides, but the pleats worked nicely with just a little extra duct tape in places to ensure a good seal. The unit cooled my downstairs living room and dining room very well. I was often too cold and had to turn it down. Did I need to use the a/c very often over the summer? No. But when I needed it I REALLY needed it. And on those days that were merely uncomfortable, I ran the fan instead. The unit works very well and I don't mind the noise. Fans are loud, too, and largely ineffective. For the price, you can't beat it. If you need serious air conditioning, buy something with more btu's, but if you're just a bit uncomfortable from time to time, buy this. It ends up being cheaper than hanging out at the mall or going to the movies to cool off.
