To be fair; I pulled my Dell Optiplex GX240 from the trash, in the neighborhood. While it's served it's purpose for my needs; I would not purchase a Dell computer; especially this model. I do not like the design; where the case opens up in halves. This computer can be setup to run as a tower, or network style; where you can set the monitor on top of its shell.  It's a bit of a pain to work on in that respect! The GX240, is designed to handle Windows XP. But it seems to have some peformance issues. It does not multi-task very well. Something is starving it's power, like it's losing memory (RAM) all the time; and it frequently freezes up for 30 seconds or more at at time. The RAM had been replaced, and was brand new!   It is currently running Ubuntu Linux 9.10; and seems to be handling it just fine (better than Windows). The right operating system on a computer, can make the difference. I also have a Dell Dimension; two Gateway computers; 1 Compaq; and a Generic computer; all running the same operating system. It seems have more of an issue processing tasks than my Dell Dimension 4100 (a much older computer). I've got relatives that have had good luck with Dell. But, of all the different computers, I've owned, or tired; I would rate it about in the middle of the pack as far as overall performance. Slightly edging out the Compaq computer; but trailing Gateway, by a wide margin! If I were to rate it between a 1 and 5; 1 being the worst; and 5 being the best. I would have to give the Dell Optiplex an overall rating of 3.

I recently received a Dell Optiplex computer from my boyfriend for christmas. We found it on ebay. This computer has turned out to be a great computer. It is dependable, fast, and has great features. My software is windows xp which I love. I leave my computer on all the time because I have everything running through my computer. My TV and my telephone are also ran through my computer. I have had this Dell Optiplex for four months now and I have not had any problems with it. I did not buy mine brand new it has been refurbished. But if I had to buy another computrer even if I had to buy it brand new I would definately consider buying this brand again. My boyfriend has since passed away but the computer he bought me lives on. It has been a pleasure using this computer it is known for its speed and it is simple to understand. It also has pleanty of hookups in the back for mp3 player or whatever else you like.

The dell optiplex was my first computer and let me tell you I glad it was. I consider myself to be a fast learner and this computer made it easier for me to learn how to use a computer. I always saw my friends use their computers, but I was never interested in computers myself; until one day one of my friends bought a new computer and he gave me his dell optiplex, at the time as I mentioned before I wasn't into computers, but since it was free I didn't mind having it. I got my internet service from Verizon a couple of weeks later and the computer was so easy to use.  I was really surprise to how easy it was to use this computer and I called my friend and he told me that he learn and felt the same way. the dell optiplex opened the doors to the computer world to me and my friend and I would recommend this computer to anyone. the dell optiplex is not only easy to use, but also very affordable.
