I used the caulk around the seam of my exterior service door and came out of the tube easy and smoothed out with my finger nicely. After it dried and has filled the gap nicely and looks great.

Total waste of time and money. I used Dap Alex Plus to caulk exterior joints around windows and trim of a large addition and residing. Im just glad I had only caulked one wall. A rain 18 hours after the caulk was installed liquified the caulk and washed most of it out of the joints and all over my new fiber cement siding. Dap Customer service was not surprised and said I should have made sure rain was not in forecast for 5 days........That info was no where in the instructions or warnings. This product sucks.

DAP Alex Plus is supposed to be a "painter's friend". The instructions say that at least four hours are required before it can be painted. On a warm, dry, sunny day, I caulked a corner between two walls with Alex and painted over it nine hours later. Within minutes, the paint alligatored! Nine hours is more than twice the quoted time and so should be enough. DAP Alex evidently requires overnight drying (some 18 to 24 hours) before it can be reliably painted without alligatoring. No paint contractor could use this stuff, unless it was on a large job where lots of repairs are needed, allowing lots of drying time for the caulk to be scheduled in parallel with other work. So from a serious painter's point of view, this gets a one star. Also, the caulk is not particularly durable and does not stick well. You can easily remove it from baseboard or door trim with your finger nail. I would never use this caulk where there is any exposure to water, or where it has to keep out the weather and such. It is strictly a cosmetic filling for cracks in the wall, or filling gaps between a trim and wall, etc. The lack of durability may even be a plus when it's time to remodel. If, say, you have to remove baseboards which are caulked over with this DAP, it won't add much to the work; it will likely just peel off the wall without even lifting the underlying paint.

This is decent product, but the manufacturer doesn't mention on the label that the calk should NEVER be put anywhere that warm or hot water might touch it. Warm water will literally disintegrate it!
