If there was ability to rate no star I would

Gee, this is the worst card, hands down. They short time send you your statement. They don't have an electronic address for you to make a payment through your bank online bill pay. They take up to 2 days to process your bill. I will be reporting this card to the federal trade commission.xxxxxxx

I love this card for cash back on gas purchases

5

The Citi - Shell Gas MasterCard is an excellent way to earn cash back on your gas purchases. My husband and I both have this credit card and use it each time we purchase gas at Shell. I love that there is a tiered rewards program for a credit back on your purchases depending on number of gallons of gas you purchase in a billing cycle. We typically earn $0.10 back per gallon of gas purchase but have earned $0.15 or even $0.20 back on gallon of gas purchased. This credit card is an excellent way to track the number of gallons of gas we use each month and it is an excellent way to earn a little bit of money back on our gas purchases. It is not a lot of money that we get back each month but the savings do add up over time. Overall, I am very happy with the features of this credit card and plan to continue to use it. Customer Service I have had a couple of minor issues with this card working at the gas pump and the customer service representatives have always been extremely helpful and help resolve the problem in a timely fashion.

Ridiculous

I usually pay for gas with my debit card, and keep the credit card for emergencies. Shell then canceled my credit card - all paid off - for lack of use! Their 1-800 customer service line said I had a $225 credit line. What's the point of an emergency credit card if they won't let you keep it paid down to zero? They only wanted me to have it if they could charge their 23.24% interest rate on any unpaid balance! After complaining with them, I finally used it at a gas station that ran the card through a manual paper receipt. When I got my next bill, the charge showed up - the account was still marked closed - but now they said I closed it after the last purchase. I reckon if I don't pay it they'll report it to the credit bureaus as an unpaid account, and damage my credit. Just ridiculous! All they'd have to do is reactivate my account like they said they would, and I'd be a happy customer.

Horrible Communication

I used to love the Shell Mastercard.  Getting 5% cash back, especially when gas prices rose near $5.00/gal was great! (I live in Chicago which has the highest gas prices in the nation) However, I am dropping Citi for 4 reasons (in no particular order): 1) The grace period between receiving the bill and the date it's due is short.  I usually have less than 2 weeks.  On a couple of occassions, my payment didn't make it there until 1 day past the deadline.  No slack . . . $39 fee, regardless that I pay my bill in full each month. 2) The Shell Mastercard no longer supports Quicken.  Of course they didn't tell me.  Just all of a sudden I got errors when trying to download my transactions from Citi to Quicken. 3) Citi locked my account, without telling me, twice! The first time was because of a large purchase (>$500) I made with it.  Citi thought it might be fraudulent, so when they received the charge, they shut down the card without telling me - no email, no letter, no phone call.  The next time I tried to use the card, I was declined.  I respect that they check for fraudulent activity, but as I let them know ever so kindly, they should have notified me that my card was locked.  Discover also checks for this type of fraudulent activity, but they've always notified me first (phone and/or email) instead of automatically shutting down the account. The second time was when i was purchasing something at a Wal*Mart in PA.  I live in Illinois.  My card was declined.  I had to call citi up again, just to find out that because I made an out of state purchase, it was declined.  After yelling at them again for not telling me about this rule, they let the charge go through. 4) Though I always pay my bill in full every month, I am dismayed that Citi pushed through a rate hike to 29.99% just before credit card reform kicked in. That just feels shady to me.

Late ONCE on your payment in 6 years? TOO BAD!

1

I have to say that I LOVED my Citi Shell Gas MasterCard.  I used Shell gas on all my fill-ups and loved the rebates I'd get every month.  Over the course of 6 years, I earned close to $600 in rebates.  To do my part for the environment, I decided to get my monthly bills online.  BAD MOVE.  Once last year, Citi didn't e-mail me my monthly statement.  Only because I was vigilant enough to look at the pattern of dates of the online payments I made through my bank did I realize that around a particular time of a month that my Shell MC was due.  I paid that bill on time and I sent an e-mail to customer service to advise them what happened.  All I got was a "we're sorry". Two months ago, the same thing happened again, only this time I wasn't so vigilant.  I tried to use my Shell MC to fill up and I get a message to contact customer service.  I check on the website and, of course, I was late on a payment.  I'm hit for a $39 late fee plus finance charges, and my APR is increased to 29.99%.  I paid the bill, and I sent an e-mail requesting that the late fee and finance charge be refunded or credited to me as this oversight was not my fault.  I get a reply saying that they would not do so, and to read my cardmember agreement. So after 6 years of customer loyalty and 6 years of paying my bills on time, this is how I'm treated. I wrote and mailed Citi a letter and cc'd a copy to Shell, saying how poorly Citi acted on a situation that was not my fault.  I told them to close my account, and I also wrote that as long as Shell used Citi for their MasterCards, I would never use Shell again. I began looking for new gas companies and thought I'd try Sunoco.  Sunoco's MasterCard is also issued by Citi - so much for that.  I found out that Gulf's Mastercard is issued through Barclay Bank USA, so I signed up with them.  They gave me a lousy credit line ($1500) despite earning a decent salary with an employer I've been with for close to 20 years.  And I opted to receive my bills the old-fashioned way as to avoid any further problems like this again.   And to Citibank, I hope some big fat bank bigger than you swallows you up and spits out all your employees to the unemployment line.

Canceled card without warning or good cause.

1

Without any warning or notice Citi canceled my Shell credit card.  Payment were always on time and over the minimum, and balance was about half the limit.  But that wasn't good enough for them.  Their decision was based entirely on their credit score for me.  So good ridance.  I'll buy my gas elsewhere.

Citi - Shell Master Card, Apparently we don't make them $$$

1

My wife tried to use our Citi Shell MasterCard this AM. I've been a customer since the Summer of 2007. I've really enjoyed the 5% rebate, until this AM that is. Apparently, paying your balance in full each month isn't good enough and we found out at the gas pump that they cancelled the card yesterday. No letter, no phone call. We have excellent credit, pay our balances in full each month and WHAM they treat us like this. I can't imagine how they would treat you if you fell behind. I guess that's why Citi is struggling and Chase is doing well. So we'll change our buying habits and use BP instead of Shell.

Horrible Customer Service

1

I had a Citi Shell Gas Mastercard util I got a $39 late charge on my $50 balance.  Here's what happened.  I pay most of my bills online and I have my account set up to receive statements via email rather than regular mail.  When I went to pay my bill on the Citi website, it told me I was unable to make my payment and to try again later.  I tried a couple more attempts but it was still down so I ended up getting a $39 late fee.  I thought it wouldn't be a big deal.  I'll just call and tell them what happened.  When I called, they didn't care what my reason was. They were not going to take the charge off.  They said I should have called the payment in or sent a check.  I thought it was ridiculous to charge someone $39 for a late fee on a $50 balance.  Also, my credit score is very good and I never get late charges.  Needless to say, I canceled the card.  I will never use another Citi card as long as I live.   No wonder they are in financial trouble, they don't care about their customers.  They only want to rip them off.

Shell Gives Me Money Back - I Can't Say No to That

5

I like to save money when I can so it's a no brainer for me to use Shell's MasterCard. I don't go out of my way to get gas at a Shell station because that would defeat the purpose of saving money. I do plan my driving to try to get to a Shell station though. We are traveling now and I plan, for example, on getting gas when I see a Shell station even though I may still have 1/2 a tank. The reason is that I get 5% cash back. Other than perhaps no-name gas that deal can't be beat. At the prices of gas at $3.00 and up a gallon this card saves me a lot of money especially when driving thousands of miles. The money adds up. The cash back is credited on my charge the month following the charge. There is no fee for the charge card. I only use it for gas since I have other cards for other rewards.
