In checkout lines, my American Express' "Blue" card gets compliments because of its futuristic clear, sparkly plastic design -- but the real beauty of the card lines in the benefits that accomany it.When making ANY large purcase, I use my American Express Blue card exclusively. Their "Purchase Protection" plan -- which protects purchases from accidental damage or theft for up to 90 days from their purchase date -- never ceases to amaze me. When I accidentally put my day-old cell phone through the washing machine, Amex was there and refunded my purchase in full in less than a week. When a friend's brand new HDTV was stolen from his apartment, Amex was there -- they credited him $1,000! Dealing with Amex customer service is always hassle-free. I have never had to jump through hoops to report unauthorized charges (when a card was stolen).American Express' online account management tools are quite advanced (and pleasing to the eye). On a single page, you can view account balances, make payments, and view rewards points -- for ALL cards at once. For any membership rewards junkies out there, Amex offers the widest array of rewards that I have ever seen -- from gift cards to travel rewards to "ShopAmex" there is definitely something for everyone. And if you truly can't find ANYthing, you can always use your points to request a credit to your account in increments of $50 (10,000 points)!

I applied for a **Blue by American Express** card towards the end of 2005.  The last thing I needed was another credit card, but I also thought that the 0% introductory interest rate could come in handy for anything major (i.e. car repairs).  And with that rate being good for a solid year, why not take advantage of it?

Well, it's been well over a year now, and I still have this card, though I'm not sure why.  It rarely, if ever, gets used.  Most day to day purchases that I need to use a credit card for go onto my Discover Card.  Towards the end of 2006 I applied and was approved for a Chase CashRewards Card, which also had a 0% introductory rate for 12 months.  So I'm not really clear on why exactly I haven't closed this account out yet.

There are some positives, though.  For one, AMEX offers a points based rewards program.  While this means nothing to me now, I was able to get some nice rewards based on the large purchases I put onto it, and letting the points accumulate.  I'm a free gift card junkie, and AMEX has a large number of partnerships with merchants.  They also have a nice partnership with TicketMaster, meaning you can cash in some or all of your points towards the cost of tickets to sports events, concerts, or theatre events.

Second is that Blue, unlike many of AMEX's other cards, carries no annual fee.  I always thought an annual fee was ridiculous.  So let me get this straight, I have to pay you for the priviledge of being able to use your card?  Bite me.  But with no annual fee, and the non existant introductory rate, it was a very appealing card that would fit a specific purpose quite well.

AMEX offers you a variety of ways to access your account, aside from the monthly mailed statement.  You can access your account online, and can even get detailed information over the phone.  I found all of this to be very convenient, especially when I got locked out of my online access and had to depend on the phone information to stay up to date.

Sadly, once the introductory period was over, the rates shot up to about 24%.  I even called American Express to see if they could do any better, but I got a "sorry, we can't, thanks for calling" response.  That is, when they actually bothered to respond.  The wait times whenever I've called have been atrocious, anywhere from 10 minutes to a half an hour.  Someone over there needs to hire some call center reps, and pronto!

Blue is nothing special.  If you see a nice introductory offer the way I did, it's well worth it.  Otherwise, not much separates it from the rest of the credit card pack.

Good everyday card.

By

from Florida

Comments about American Express - Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card:

I have used several different credit card companies in the last few years and one of the most pleasently surprising of these companies has been American Express.

The Blue Cash Everyday credit card is just that. It is good for everyday use. I don't use mine as often as I used to, am actually in the process of trying to pay it off. However when I was using it as my main card it was great as an everyday card.

The interest rates make using this as your main credit card easy and Affordable. And paired with American Express and there solid company, it's good if you are a heavy user.

The customer service is good, I haven't actually had that many issues with this card and I think the only time I have had to contact customer service was when I wanted to pay my bill by phone.

I don't think I would recommend this card for a sometimes or emergency user, but it would be the perfect card for someone who is a heavy user or makes a lot of larger credit purchases.

Pretty good credit card

By

from Pennsylvania

Comments about American Express - Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card:

I got this card because of a promotional transfer balance offer at 0% interest. I think it is a nice card to have. It is cool looking but that isn't typically a reason I would ever get a credit card for. It does have an awesome 90 day protection plan on purchases. I've never had to use it but it's nice to know that if I would like to make a large purchase for something that can be easily broken, I have this option. There is no annual fee on this card. They have a rewards system that operates on points. When you acquire enough points you can use them to purchase products, get cash back, pay towards your balance, travel and get gift cards. They don't tend to offer bonus offers regularly to get extra points which is why this isn't one of my favorite rewards card. However, it is definitely not bad.

Customer Service
I have had to call customer service a couple times to conduct business. The representatives were always polite, well informed, and did everything they could to assist me.

Available Rates
The rates and credit limit received are going to depend on your credit score and history. I have good credit so I got a decent interest rate and credit limit.

Comments about American Express - Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card:

I love the American Express Blue card not only for its looks but also its features. It is a no annual fee credit card but still has a decent membership rewards program. You earn points for each purchase though I don't completely understand how the points system works since they seem to be higher than $1/1 point. Once you have enough points you can either redeem them for products, gift cards, statement credits, or travel. The travel is a bit ridiculous since you need a ton of points to get something worthwhile but the gift cards are nice and there are many retailers to choose from.

Customer Service
Not too long ago I lost my card and was a bit frantic since I needed to make a purchase at a place that only takes American Express. It was after 5 p.m. and I called AMEX and explained my situation to them. To my surprise a new card was on my doorstep the next morning. With that kind of service, especially for someone who has a no fee card, I will be an American Express member for life.

Great card

Comments about American Express - Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card:

I love using AMEX Blue. I know when I use it I am getting Cash back in the form of paying my bill on my next statement. It's like building up a savings account, & using those "pennies" to pay my bill. Lots of people save their loose change, then have to roll it up, take it to the bank, and get dollars in return. Here, you don't have to go to that trouble,. They do it for you.

American Express Card

By

from USA

Comments about American Express - Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card:

I would recommend American Express credit card if you're living in a large city or around area where there are a lot of credit card fraud. Also, if you're not those type of person that looking for great reward points. I have American Express credit card for over five years now, they have great customer service. You can usually get through to talk to a representative with very minimal wait time on the phone (around five minutes wait). As for credit card protection, there was one point two year ago when I thought they over did it. It was during the holiday season when I was out shopping for gifts, they would put my card on hold every time I use it to pay for a gift in the mall. I was so frustrated with the American Express credit card that I end up using the store credit card. I called in to try and resolve the issue, I had a very obnoxious and rude representative. So a couple day later when I called to cancel the credit card, another representative then resolve the issue and convince me to stay with their credit card by giving me more points. I decided to stay with American Express credit card. Since then I had not other issue with over protection of the credit card. Now I am currently living in a smaller city that have a lot of local grocery stores and restaurants that doesn't accept American Express credit card. So I had to finally make the switch to a different credit card. As for accumulating points to redeem for gift cards or travel, you don't accumulate a lot compare to other credit cards out there.

Customer Service
I would have given American Express customer service a higher rating if it wasn't for the one incident with the obnoxious and rude representative.

Available Rates
The card is not accepted in a lot of local restaurants or store due to their high rate that they charge the consumer.

Best Card For Everyday Use

By

from Virginia

Comments about American Express - Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card:

At one point in my life I felt like credit cards were all bad and could only lead you into debt. Well I partially stand by that statement because I have found the American Express Blue Cash Everyday Card to be a very beneficial card because it works for my spending habits. If I am going to be rewarded to shop I am taking advantage of this card. I actually ran across an ad on this particular card, the commercial sounding great so I checked into the Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card because I knew there had to be a "catch". Yes, there is an annual fee of $75, but the rewards this card offers if you use it makes up for the yearly fee. Now this card works for me because I have made it work for instance the card rewards you for buying groceries, gas, and department stores. I already have the cash to buy my groceries but I use this card instead and I am rewarded 6% on the groceries I purchase, then when my billing statement arrives, I have the money put aside to pay my balance off and I have earned a whopping 6% just for buying my groceries on the Blue Cash Everyday Card. Now I have only had this card for 6 months and I use it for everything. I feel like I am earning money to shop. Now there is a cap on the grocery reward which is $6000 in a years time and after that it drops down to 1% on groceries. Gas rewards are similar, you can earn 2% on gas purchases and department stores. I felt this card would benefit me at this time, since American Express offers interest free for 15 months, after that my interest rate will jump to 14% which is better than most in store credit cards. I actually find myself wanting to use my card so I can see the points I accumulate and cash in for actual cash, a lot of companies use gift card rewards, which is nice but cash can be used everywhere! Right now this card is working for me, now if you don't shop often for groceries or gas this card wouldn't benefit you. I have found a way to actually benefit from a credit card I never thought in a million years I would ever say that.

Customer Service
So far I have not had any issues to call customer service.

Available Rates
The rewards are great and they offer interest free payments for 15 months, In some cases they offer a sign up bonus and interest rate can be as low as 12% up to 21%depending on your credit history.

Not accepted a lot of places

By

from Greer, SC

Comments about American Express - Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card:

I got this card when I was in college. The interest rates were very high and the fees were pretty high as well. It's not accepted a lot of places either which makes it less desirable than some of the other credit card options. I was okay using this card because I was able to pay off my bill every month, but I wouldn't recommend it for those people who either are not planning to pay it off every month or know that they will not be paying it off every month. I would choose a card that's more widely accepted with lower rates. I ultimately closed the account because of these things in addition to the fact that my husband and I were combining our accounts and things after getting married and we just didn't need a ton of credit card sitting around. If it's a last resort and you need some credit and will pay your bill off I say go for it. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend using American Express Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card.

Not a Bad Card

By

from VA

Comments about American Express - Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card:

We have had the American Express Blue Cash every day card for a few years now. It is not a bad card. The interest rates are reasonable, the billing cycle is standard, and we have never had issues with extra fees or charges. We can pay by phone, by mail, or online. Managing your account online is very easy. Customer service is helpful and friendly, and when you email them, they get back with you in a timely manner. The rewards are so so. Not great, but not horrible either. We use ours to just put back into the card and forego any of the "prizes". The American Express card is nice to have in November because you usually get a discount for using it on a certain set of dates at participating small businesses. And often we can get concert and event tickets at either a discounted price or at an earlier date if we purchase them with our American Express card and they are a sponsor. That is actually a great benefit. I would recommend this card.

Love the grocery cash back option!

By

from USA

Comments about American Express - Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card:

I absolutely love this card. I buy lots of groceries each year and love getting 6% cash back. Every little bit helps for sure! Also American Express has wonderful customer service. I called them up once cause I had a charge on my card that wasn't from me and they took care of it right away. I had no problems at all and felt like I was treated with the upmost respect. I highly recommend American Express and can see myself being a lifetime member.

Customer Service
Their customer service is top notch! Seriously the best I have ever felt with. They treat their customers with respect and care. I feel honored and like I am doing them a favor whenever I talk to them.

Available Rates
I do pay $79 a year for the grocery cash back. But I got almost $400 back last year, so I consider that totally worth my money. They do have a free one if you don't think you can get the money back, which wouldn't have the grocery cash back but would still be wonderful.

My Most Frequently Used Card

By

from Ohio

Comments about American Express - Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card:

I use my American Express Blue Cash Every Day Card on anything and everything. It truly is my every day card. I charge with it at the gas station, gracery store, coffee shops, restaurants and almost everywhere I shop. Why not? The benefits are simply awesome! You are actually earning cash back with all your purchasing. What's better than that? You do have to be a bit patient with the cash-back reward, but it is still a worthwhile benefit. Plus there are very helpful travel benefits that I have used on several occasions. The car rental insurance was available for a much lower price than I could find anywhere else. This card is the one I use for everything and plan to stay using. With no annual fee and so many benefits, I have always been overall very pleased with it. I have several friends and family members who also use it and have never heard one complaint! Great card!
