I'm not all too sure why Campho-Phenique is in the cold and flu medicine section on here but oh well. I have suffered from cold sores my whole life. I hate them. I REALLY HATE THEM. Not only are they painful but they just look awful. I try to hide at home when I have them but between college and work, that's kind of a problem. Campho-Phenique Cold Sore Treatment with Drying Action is great for relieving the pain and speeding up the healing process. I first tried Campho-Phenique Cold Sore Treatment with Drying Action because my dad used to use it because he also gets cold sores. It comes in a tube [I think some places still have the liquid version of it though] and comes out as a brownish gel. When you put it on the cold sore it will probably sting a little, especially if some of the blisters have began to burst. It numbs the area fairly quickly which helps to relieve the pain. Try not to accidentally lick your tip because it tastes awful and will numb your tongue briefly. It doesn't smell the greatest either but it's tolerable. The product quickly begins drying up your cold sore and shrinking it, which is NICE! After a few days the cold sore usually disappears. Sometimes you are left with a scab though since it is drying and doesn't have moisturizing components like some other cold sore lip ointments. I highly recommend Campho-Phenique Cold Sore Treatment with Drying Action. It relieves the pain and shrinks your cold sore quickly! Congestion Relief Not it's intended purpose. This is one of those products that I know has been around since the 1950's. Campho Phenique was my mothers go to product for cold sores and fever blisters. Back then it only came in a liquid. This is much more portable and easy to just drop in your purse for application during your day. A great product that really works and is so affordable compared to other treatments for cold sores. Great product to put on those mosquito and chigger bites to relieve the pain and itching. Great on those razor nicks as well to stop the pain and promote healing. The only bad thing about this product is that it has a very strong medicinal smell. The liquid can burn slightly and the taste if you happen to lick your lips is not that great. The good news is that it usually dries up the cold sores after just a couple applications. If you are prone to cold sores, fever blisters or if you have children that lick their lips to the point that they become irritated this product is an inexpensive and effective treatment. I keep the liquid ( which can be hard to find now) for use on my chigger bites and it works great. Don't scratch them lots first though because the liquid can sting a little. This is also great for those times when you are getting over a cold and you have wiped your runny nose so much that you get an irritation under your nose and maybe even an occasional sore. Well, I like to purchase products that have multipurposes. I have never had a cold sore but I use Campho-Phenique Cold Sore Treatment on my bug bites and boils. The healing properties of in the treatment work well in aiding the itching of bug bites and soothe the skin. It also helps to keep the surface skin clean when battling a boil. I'm not sure if these are recommended uses, but, they work great for me. The smell can be a bit off putting, but, used sparingly the value outweighs the price of the small tube. I would still prefer the liquid kind though,

It is applied directly to the sore and is useful for drying the sore, preventing infections, and stopping the itch. You just dab on a small amount and let it do the rest. Campho- Phenique is easy to use because you apply it directly. It doesn't smell good at all, but it goes to work immediately, drying the sore and stopping the itch. I find it best to apply it daily until the sore is gone. It provides a somewhat numbing effect that helps you forget the problem as you wait for the sore to heal. Campho- Phenique doesn't work super- fast, but it does get the job done and one of its best properties is its anti- itch capabilities. I have been using **Campho-Phenique Cold Sore Treatment with Drying Action** for two or three winters now.  I have begun to rely on it as my first line of defense against cold sores.   The good - As soon as you find you're developing a cold sore, apply some Campho-Phenique a few times a day until you don't notice the spot anymore.  My wife and I have found that this is the best application of this product.  The drying action stops any cold sores before they really become a problem. The bad - There is a bit of pain if you apply it to any open sores, or overly dry/cracked spots on your lips.  However, "that's how you know it's working!" The ugly - This is not the best smelling thing you'll ever put on your lips!  It's not a horrible smell, just very medicinal.  And the smell is *strong*.  My wife tells me she can smell it on me from a few feet away.  The smell doesn't last very long, however, and it's worth it for the relief!

I usually find myself with a cold sore at the worst times. Usually, my cold sores are brought on by stress, and are better treated earlier in the onset of symptoms than later. Campho-Phenique is a product that was always found in our medicine cabinet growing up, so purchasing this product as a treatment to cold sores was a natural choice. Campho-Pheniqe Cold Sore Treatment with Drying Action was priced much lower than other treatments found in the pharmacy, and was easily spotted. The yellow packaging drew my attention to it right away. After using other over the counter products, this product was a great one to use because of the numbing properties that the formula contains. This is effective in drying out cold sores. After the initial "ouch" (pain associated with application) the numbness takes over and the drying process begins. The packaging is small enough to carry in a pocket and pulled out easily to be applied to the sore. I recommend this product to anyone who has trouble with cold sores. It is a great product to have on hand!
