Gizmo is easy to use and easy to store

When my old can opener, which I had not so affectionately named "the beast" died, I saw the Black & Decker Gizmo cordless can opener and I thought it would be a perfect replacement! When I had a regular can opener, it seemed like I was always battling to get things lined up "just right" when trying to open the can. Inevitably, since the can was elevated, once it was done opening and the lid popped up, something would spill all over my counter. I don't have to deal with either one of these issues with the Gizmo. I also love that it's so compact, there's no cord to worry about, and it can mount right on the wall for easy access! No more bulky "beasts" in my house! The one thing that I don't like about the Gizmo is that it doesn't seem to hold a charge well over time and you have to make sure it's lined up on the charger 'just right' so it will charge. It's frustrating to start opening a can only to have it die before the can is open.

Black & Decker Gizmo Cordless Can Opener Revolutionary

I would definitly say that the Black & Decker Gizmo Cordless Can Opener is revolutionary because I cannot imagine walking a can of something to a standard cabinet mounted can opener to open. We received the Black & Decker Gizmo as a wedding present almost 6 years ago. It has worked great for us - it has recently started to not hold a battery charge though as of late. Sometimes it is hard to tell if it is on the charger correctly too. I fuss about it and say I will just buy a good old standard mounted can opener but I am absolutley spoiled to the idea of the Gizmo. Power Can opener where I need it! My only other drawback is that I don't think it is so easy to keep clean. I wipe it off after every use but gunk gets built up around the magnet thing. You can remove the handle and blade to clean but still the magnet and wheel thingy is yuck - not in your food yuck but yuck looking. Even with that, though, if I had to go out and buy a can opener of choice today it would probably be another Gizmo for the next 6 years.

The Gizmo is a quick handy tool.

We registered for this item as a wedding gift through Bed Bath and Beyond.  We got it as a gift and I have had the Black and Decker Gizmo can opener for almost seven years now.  It is still working but kinda of seems to be losing it's juice.  It doesn't hold a charge for very long anymore even though it is plugged in twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.  It really worked strong for several years and i never missed the hand can opener at all.  I love how you just easily attach the can opener to a can, push down to start, walk away, and come back when it stops.  It cuts the top off nicely and keeps the lid attached to the magnetic piece so you can easily throw it away.  I have to admit that it is pretty tedious to clean.  I have not exactly figured out how to clean the gear part thoroughly without immersing it into water.  Maybe that is the cause of it getting stuck and slowing down a lot.  Anything that you can do without much effort on your part is worth it to me.

The Gizmo works pretty well.

My husband had purchased the Black and Decker Gizmo cordless can opener several years ago.  I had wanted it, so that I could easily open larger cans without having to use a hand crank can opener.  I also thought that it was nice because you could hang it up and use it as a regular electric can opener, too.  Truth be told, we use it mostly as a regular electric can opener.  I take it off of the charger very little.  Only when I need to open a very large can, such as instant potatoes.  Like I said earlier, I have had the Black and Deck Gizmo for several years, now.  It is starting to show signs of getting old.  It is taking longer to open cans, and seems to be losing power.  I'm not sure if it is because I have not taken it off of the charger very often, or if it is just getting to the age where it has come to the end of its life.  It is fairly easy to take apart and clean.  Althogh you can't throw the entire thing in the dishwasher, the parts that get pretty dirty are dishwasher safe.  Overall, I'd say it was a good purchase.  Several years is probably all that you can ask of a can opener.
