Canon is built to last!

5

I've had this printer for over 3 years! I love this thing. I actually got this printer for free with the purchase of a Canon SD500 camera so long ago. Since it was free, I didn't care too much about it. I didn't start to value it until 2, that's right, 2 HP printers I had broke which were newer than this Canon IP3000. I've had an Epson printer that seem to last forever too, so I was just amazed that the HP printers were having mechanical issues. So like the other reviewer said, although this product has been discountinued, if you still have it, it's probably still working for you because it definitely is working for me. This printer normal text print quality is great. The inks are all separate which makes it last longer than if all the colors are combined into 1 cartridge. The photo print quality isn't spectacular, but for it being one of the first generation home photo printers, it sure does a decent job. I have since bought 2 Canon printers and they are all working fine. I think I'll stick with canon printers for a long time since it seems to be the best quality built printers.

Love it ! Love it !

I bought this Canon IP3000 printer a few years ago.  This was in a great low price at the time.  I was not expecting too much but a disposable kind of printer when the ink ran out.  As soon as I connected it up and start using it for a few days, I fell into love with this printer.  The text is crisp and clear. The print speed is fast.  It is quiet when printing.  It can handle many different sizes and kinds of paper. The two most lovable features from this printer are:  1) automatic duplex printing - no need to manually flip and feed the paper back in.  In between printer two sides, it pauses and indicates on the screen that it is waiting for the ink to dry.  It only pauses for a few seconds but it works.  What a cool consideration from Canon.  2) It can use off-brand or refillable inks.  Unlike many newer Canon (and other brands) printer, the ink cartridge has a built-ink smart chip that you have to use their own new cartridge.   Even if you try to refill it yourselves, it will not work.  This Canon has four individual ink tanks.  I have been refilling it myself for the last few years and never had any problem except one ink tank was replaced due to the sponge inside the ink tank dried out.  I sure will miss this printer when it finally dies. Unfortunately they have stop making it for a few years.  If you can find an used working one in decent shape, run to get it and it will save you a lot of money.

Canon Pixma ip3000 is a great printer

The Canon Pixma ip3000 printer may be a discontinued model, but if you have one, it's probably still working.  I've been using this inkjet printer for years, and it has lasted longer that any other printer I've ever owned.  I've seen a few still available for sale online, however some of the asking prices are ridiculous.  However, if you happen to run across a used one, it might be worth giving it a try. Although it might not be the best for photo quality printing, it works extremely well for general printing.  The photo printing is of acceptable quality, but not as good as the newer printers available now.  Generic ink is available at very reasonable prices.  I did not have any problems finding drivers to work with Windows 7 for this printer. The technical details for this printer are as follows:  Up to 4,800 x 1,200 dpi color resolutions, printes up to 22ppm black, and 15 ppm in color.  There are four individual tanks instead of just one black and one color tank.  The Canon Pixma ip3000 is PictBridge compatible and PC/Mac Compatible.

Really great value

This printer was purchased for not very much in 2005.  It has been such a quality printer for a remarkably low price.  I've also been buying universal cartridges for it that are also quite inexpensive. The quality of the printer is actually quite surprising for a lower end model.  It is sensitive to paper size, which is great.  So, if you want to print something on a scrap piece of paper that's smaller than letter sized, the printer detects the end of the paper and prints to about 1/4'' of it.  It's great that it has a top loading tray and a bottom casset tray.  I tend to have lots of half sheets and one third sheet sized paper which I'll use in the top tray.  I keep letter sized paper in the bottom tray.  A button on the front of the printer toggles between the two.  Canon has been making quality printers for a long time and the technology inside the printer hasn't changed for a while either.  I think some of their lower end models only really cut corners in using plastic bodies.  The body to this printer isn't anything glamourous like brushed metal, just grey plastic, but all the parts work perfectly (and have been for 5 years.)
