This is certainly not the best trowel that I have ever used. The wooden handle is a bit hard and uncomfortable to grip, especially when digging hard with it. But the wooden handle and the metal neck seem a little flexible and weak. They have worked well for us when digging around in potting soil or scraping at loose dirt. But they do not seem strong enough for digging in hard ground, such as planting plants that were started in pots and transferring them directly into the ground. When doing this, we usually need to loosen the dirt with a shovel before making a small hole with this trowel. But at times that is inconvenient, especially if he shovel is too big for the area we want to loosen (such as planting in a confined space between rocks or other established plants). The blade of the trowel is also poorly shaped. It is too flat, and it is rather difficult to scoop dirt out of a hole.
