Vicks VapoRub Review Summary

There are all kinds of newfangled cold and flu remedies out there, but one product that continues to delight reviewers more than other cold medicines is Vicks VapoRub. This product is still an old favorite passed down from generation to generation and it offers many qualities that make it one of the best remedies for cold symptoms. Reviewers enjoy the cooling menthol gel because it makes a great decongestant rub and opens the sinuses and they have many great things to say about it, including “This is a Simple Tried and True Remedy when you have Congestion” and “A Family Tradition for Generations”. Vicks VapoRub is strong smelling and users need to be careful not to allow the gel to enter the body, because its petroleum base is toxic. However, the fumes are all you need from Vicks VapoRub for quick cold relief and reviewers say that it’s great for kids and adults alike. It's simple, safe, and it works better than most other Cold Medicines on the market, earning it an easy recommendation.

It seems I have been using Vicks Vaporub all my life and, in fact, I have! My mother used to slather this ointment on my chest and throat when I was sick and I would always feel better after it was applied.

For colds, coughs, and decongesting, rub a layer of the ointment over the chest and throat and...

No, do NOT put Vick's VapoRub in, or near, your nose! It contains camphor, a petroleum product that can be toxic if absorbed directly into the body.

The proper ways to apply VapoRub are:

_ On the chest or throat (to congestion relief), or

_ On sore muscles (to increase circulation)

My family has always used Vicks VapoRub. We're originally from the mountains where you always try home remedies first - unless you're fixing to die on the spot. So, VapoRub is a staple in the medicine cabinet. It sits right there with the Calomine Lotion and BenGay. It never seems to run out either which is a good thing. I think I've had two bottles and one greaseless squeeze tube over my grown-up lifetime. I like the greaseless version, but it does seem like the old type works better.

Vicks VapoRub is a thin, greasy cream that is rubbed on the chest, across the neck and can also be put on other...

Wow, I read the reviews on Vicks VapoRub and found something new that I haven't tried but I will tonight.  A couple people mentioned using it on your feet to help with colds and callous's, I am very picky about my feet and I bet it would soften them by applying the vicks and putting on socks, I do that with lotions.

My family, like everyone elses's that wrote a review, has used Vicks VapoRub for ever.  I know when my siblings and I were just little bitty things, if we got a cold, fever etc. out came the Vicks.  I am 63 and my medicine cabinet has never been without a jar of Vicks in it. ...

I love this stuff!!  It's great.  OK it may smell a bit but if it does the job who cares!!

Our son was constantly sick as in infant, always clogged up.  Since he was a baby there wasn't much that you could give him that was safe.  Trying to get him unclogged was quite a task too!  This stuff worked like a breeze!!!!

OK you're saying to yourself VICKS on a baby, isn't that strong for him?  Well no...not if you do it this way as recommended by my pediatrician & my grandmother!!  Yes my pediatrician did recommend doing this, it was not just another homemade remedy.

This is what you do.  Get...

I like simple things that work.  I've used Vicks Vapor Rub my whole life.  When I'm sick enough to go bed, I slather it on my chest, back, neck and even around my ears.  I put on an old t-shirt and use the oldest sheet for the bed.  Ok...it's a little messy--but having congestion and a cold isn't really that great in itself.  Without fail, I'm going to feel better in the morning.  It starts making the congestion drain out of my body and it has to come out to feel better.  I use decongestants sparingly and just prefer to let my body get the crud out with a little help.

And if I need help...

This really works great when rubbed onto the both of feet and then put on socks.I use it on my granchildren all the time,it really cuts down on the amount of cough medicine they have to take.I was really skeptical when I first heard about this but one night I had my 17 month old granddaughter and she was coughing so bad neither one of us could sleep so I thought why not  give it a try so  I rubbed her feet and put socks on herand after about 20 minutes her cough quieted and she went off to sleep and rested well the rest of the night.I highly recommend this product I have used it on myself,my... review »

I have read a few stories about people who use this on their feet with great results. Told a friend about the foot fungus remedy, she tried it (slather on at night, cover with socks.) and after years of hiding her feet, is now fungus free. The smell is a bit much, but it also tingles which she enjoys!

Besides the old fashioned-rub it on the chest and under the nose routine- I do the bucket full of hot water with chunk of VapoRub, then hover over the nice-moist steam with a towel over the head, to ensure maximum inhaling of the Vapo-Steam.
It opens up my pathetically stuffed Nose and relieves Sinus pressure almost instantly-allowing me to sleep throught the night without the groaginess other Nighttime medicines leave you in the morning.
Wheather you are completely drugged up- and still unable to sleep at night because your nose is stuffed- or just starting to feel sick and don't want to take...

Whenever my children get a stuffy nose, out comes the Vicks Vapor Rub!  My mother used it for me and her mother before her.  The smell might be strong, but it is soothing.  The warmth on the skin is soothing is well.  Vicks Vapor Rub is also a very good product to use for stallions (male horses) when you don't want them to smell anything and for sheep when you want to introduce new sheep into a flock.  Just put a little in their nostrils and it keeps them from beating up the new sheep who smells "different."

This is a product that my mom and grandmother used and I now use for me and my family. When my kids get sick or their allergies start acting up I use this on their throat and chest helps to keep their nasal passages opened up so it does not back up into their ears and cause ear infections. This is just good for so many things but my favorite is when my kids allergy's act up they get so congested and used to end up with ear infections and head colds no more now that my mom reminded me of Vick's vapor rub.A must have if you have kids.

I love vapo rub. It reminds me of child hood, my mother and feeling secure.

I forgot about it until I moved to Michigan, land of the 6 month winter. My friend suggested that I rub it on my neck and chest, wrap up in a towel and let it sit for at least an hour. I did and my symptoms were gone.

It can also be used for numbing the face before tweesing your eyebrows!
