Violight Zapi keeps my toothbrush sanitary

By

Comments about VIOlight Zapi UV Toothbrush Sanitizer:

Okay, so I don't know that it's actually killing the bacteria, but based on some of the other reviews, looks like independent tests have shown that it does reduce the bacteria level significantly. I got a purple one for myself and a blue one for my husband. I love that it's really simple to fit my toothbrush into the holder and just click the "on" button and have the UV light turn off by itself. I use a regular toothbrush, but my husband uses an electric one and it's great that he can just remove the brush head from his toothbrush and click it into the Zapi to sanitize. I used to use Dr. Tung's snap-on toothbrush saniziter cover, which was great and smelled wonderful (essential oils), but was kind of spendy to keep replacing every two months. I'm hoping that this'll last longer w/o having to change the bulb. That's the one problem I have w/ this. I don't know where to purchase replacement bulbs or if they're even available. Also, it's a pain to open the case to clean the drip compartment.

Not very durable, lousy customer service .

Comments about VIOlight Zapi UV Toothbrush Sanitizer:

Update: Don't bother buying one of these! see my comment about the customer service call I made at the bottom!

I bought the VIOlight Zapi Toothbrush Sanitizer in plain pink when I saw how compact it was and what great colors it came in, including several great ones for kids including a pink teddy bear, a ninja, and a blue teddy pirate. And it is cheaper than a huge, expensive,  family size sanitizing unit. I have very little counter space so in that respect it is really nice but it does not vibrate and "rock and roll" like advertised. But it is still kind of fun and it does not tip over. It "wobbles" like a weeble (if you are old enough to remember those toys !) because it has a weighted base.

The perks: It cleans and sanitizes your toothbrush, or your kids toothbrush, with the touch of a button. Just brush and afterwards stick it back in and press the button and the LED light blinks for a few minutes and the ultraviolet germicidal light cleans 99% of the bacteria by destroying its DNA. According to the package it eliminates E.coli, salmonella, strep, pseudomonas, and other harmful microorganisims. You get a free toothbrush with it and it also works with other manual and also electric brush heads. You can keep the toothbrush in there and just use it as a holder too. I think kids would really enjoy using these and it would keep the germs down in a multi-child household. Each one could have their own color (the pink teddy bear has its own set of stickers to decorate the unit with, so does the blue pirate) but then be prepared to have a bathroom counter full of them!

The downside: The Zapi gobbles up batteries like gangbusters! I had only used it for a few weeks when the light stopped blinking and I had to change the batteries (what I thought was) way too soon. When I called  customer service they argued with me about wich model I had and when the rep put her supervisor on the line she  told me to use "non-alkaline' batteries and "clean the contacts" just to get rid of me. Hello? Aside from moisture issue with electronics 1. these are practically non existant and hard to find and 2. I really don't like being treated like that. They just didn't want to spend a buck and help me with my issue.

There is no cord to plug it in or charge it. And it is a little hard to clean; I had trouble popping off the cover to rinse out the little nook the toothbrush fits in and I was afraid of breaking the unit. Definitely a job for a parent!

Overall I enjoyed mine until it broke. It beats buying zillions of toothbrushes or boiling them to remove germs and they come in a variety of colors. I wouldn't reccomend buying one at all. Their customer service is terrible and they were of absolutely NO help!  I hardly touched mine before it broke and I don't have a house full of kids !!
