I  bought my Toshiba Satellite L455 for it's portability and price. At first I wasn't too sure about using the preloaded Windows 7 but after a few days I was okay with it. My laptop doesn't crash like my desktop that uses Vista does, which is often.

I primarily use the Toshiba to edit videos and create DVDs. I added my video editing software and have had no issues with limited space while editing and burning the videos. I can even surf the net and play real-time games online at the same time as editing and burning. This laptop is multi-taskable. That's a HUGE plus!

I also use the laptop to run a couple of businesses. I easily created all kinds of files with the preloaded Microsoft Office 2007. It would be better if it weren't a trial version though. Once the trial expires, you have to buy the program or you can't use it anymore rendering the files you've created useless. I've chosen to use a different free program altogether and deleted Office from my laptop. I can open and edit my files again without the added expense of paying for Microsoft Office.

The speakers are okay. I suggest adding a set of external speakers for better sound quality. The internal sound program is cool though. It allows you to set the speakers (internal or external) for different room type settings. It also notices when you plug in external speakers or a set of headphones. The program automatically opens and allows you to make changes according to what you've just plugged in.

The internal wi-fi is quite handy. I use wireless all over and have no problem connecting anywhere I go. I did have issues connecting to my wireless router at home but with a little research I discovered the specific settings I needed to set on my Toshiba to connect to my network. Now I have no issues getting files from my Vista run desktop to my Windows 7 run laptop.

There are a couple of drawbacks to this model. There isn't a number keypad but you get used to using the numbers lined up above the keyboard. Also the battery life is very short, about 2 hours.

I purchased the Toshiba Satellite L455 Series laptop on 12/16/2009.  Five months later, the left primary control button on the mouse pad broke.  I took it in to the authorized dealer I bought it from and had it repaired.  I had to pay for the labor but the repair was covered under warranty.  Five months later, or now, the same thing happened again, and now I find myself having to ship the laptop in for them to keep it a month to replace it.  Why? Because they will no longer reimburse the authorized dealers to fix it.  Now I have to wait for them to decide if I damaged it or if it is their fault to know whether it will be covered.  The problem I have is that the same issued occured twice.  I have not dropped the laptop, I have over 22 years of experience working with PCs/laptops.  No, I didn't waste liquid on it either.  Why can't Toshiba stand behind a horribly made product?  Yes, it was a cheap computer, but shouldn't the buttons still work?  You can take your chance with this laptop if you choose, but I'm here to tell you that you'll get exactly what you pay for.  On my way now to buy a new laptop, and money will not be an option this time.

This Toshiba laptop is great for someone with simple needs.

Comments about Toshiba Satellite L455 Notebook PC:

This laptop is great. I am a college student with simple needs and this laptop seems to meet all my needs. It has over a two and a half hour batter life. It came with Windows 7 already installed which works great. It has several fun games preloaded into it which kills free time nicely as well. This computer could not be more perfect for a student who is attending high school or college and needs it for school work and going online. It works very fast and there have not been any glitches. The picture quality is outstanding. It is a crisp picture. It is also very clear and colorful, it looks just like watching HDTV. I have used several laptops and this seems to be one of the best ones yet. There is no webcam, which would be nice if it came along with it free. That is one negative point. It is also a bit heavier than you would expect for a state-of-the-art computer nowadays. If you are in the market for a computer for school, internet, leisure or any reason that does not require significant resources from your laptop, this is the way to go. It is also very affordable. It was one of the cheapest laptops at the store. Windows 7 is very functional and is the operating system for the computer. The keyboard is configurfed very nicely and is very comfortable. It does not overheat and seems very durable. The cord for the battery is very long which makes it easy to find a spot to plug-in if you don't have any battery life left. The battery lasts for at least two and a half hours and is even better than advertised. Basically, if you are looking for the cheapest and highest quality laptop on the market, this is the way to go.

Comments about Toshiba Satellite L455 Notebook PC:

I am going to school for computer programing. I use a lot of different programs so I need a good computer to do some of my assignments. I have very little problem with it. It runs my Virtual Machine just fine. I recomend this computer because it has very little issues. The only cons I see with this is there is no HDMI port or a web cam and the sounds not that great.

<3 Great price and lightwhieght

Comments about Toshiba Satellite L455 Notebook PC:

I see a lot of people complain about the no restore disk but to me this best way restore disk get damage or misplaced. I like that Idea of this option the most. I also tried Ubuntu 10.4.1 live and detected all hardware very  good in Linux and what not. So yeah all Toshibas have been good ones to me have had few before this beening my 3rd one. I see one flaw is the WIFI Realtex 8187 family isnt that great better get a Cisco or Netgear for better response and pickup. I wish Toshiba would use better Wlan stuff and audio. But give it time drivers get better for theses but the dont get out fast enough. One other flaw is the rotary volume knob been on Toshibas for some time. One good thing is that most around this price dont go up to 8Gigs of Ram. AMD/ATI is good for Gaming just get the tweaks for AMD and this baby will roar in fast speeds.

Toshiba Satellite is good for the price!

Comments about Toshiba Satellite L455 Notebook PC:

I bought this Toshiba Satellite November of 2009 after my Dell laptop kicked the bucket. I really like the size of the screen for watching movies. Unlike other reviews I have read about this computer I find the battery life to be better than the Dell. It is really good for my use as a college student. I don't have  a major that requires expensive audio or visual software, but mainly use it for paper writing, powerpoint making, and general internet usage. I have yet to have any problems. I dislike the sound. It isn't loud enough to hear when someone else is talking. I bought external speakers to go with it and that seems to do the trick. Why would you want to buy this? Because you're a student or consumer who wants a simple computer do get the job done. I don't know if I will need a laptop after college and if this one kicks out I won't be upset as long as it gets me through these next few years.

Comments about Toshiba Satellite L455 Notebook PC:

A GREAT laptop! It is very fast and easy to use. It is a little heavy and big but that is the only downfall. It also get a little hot. Battery life is pretty good (depends on the setting). I use this laptop for everyday use - internet, e-mail, Microsoft Office, and some small games. Also I find that the screen gets dirty VERY quick and easy.

The laptop has what I need to use it for

By

Comments about Toshiba Satellite L455 Notebook PC:

When I bought this laptop I honestly was looking to buy another HP laptop. This laptop was the only one I could find for the amount of money I had to spend on one. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the laptop. I have had no problems with it and it does everything I want and need. I have no problems and I was able to adapt to this brand fairly quick. In the future I defianetly would buy another one with no questions asked. If there is any direct questions that need answered I would do that as well. My rating is at 100% satisfied customer.

Don't know if I could recommend the Toshiba L455 or not....

By

from Kennesaw, GA

Comments about Toshiba Satellite L455 Notebook PC:

I have to tell you...I was so excited to receive the Toshiba L455 as a gift/bonus for some work I had done for a friend of mine!!  I have owned it only two months!!  I have had nothing but problems since the day I took it out of the box!!  My first problem was with the pre-loaded Norton Firewall/Security program.  It would not let me connect to my Wifi system where I lived.  It took Toshiba tech support 4 calls and 4 different techs to correct the problem.  Then just the other day, my left "mouse" button snapped!!  Being only 2 months old, I am not a happy camper!!  Buyer Beware...this one, in my opinion, might be a lemon!!

Toshiba Satellite L455 is great laptop for the money

Comments about Toshiba Satellite L455 Notebook PC:

**This laptop is great for home and family use. I have had it for several months now and have not encountered any issues. The processing speed works great for me (surfing the net, a few games, watching movies and TV and using Office products). I have quite a few applications loaded and it seems to handle all of it fine. I also like the new Windows 7. A HUGE improvement over that memory hog Vista.**

**This laptop is pretty large and a bit heavy for a laptop, so it's not ideal for taking it on the go. It does have a nice large screen that is bright and clear and has good quality for watching movies and TV. **

**I have 2 minor complaints - the touch pad is very sensitive (especially the scroll area) and the speakers are terrible! I own two Toshiba laptops and they both have awful sound. I have also owned HP and Dell laptops, and the speakers on both are superior.**

**For the price of the machine and it's performance - it is a great value.**
