Norpro Mandoline Slicer Grater with Guard

A very versatile tool, but not the easiest for everyday use.

This mandoline has a bunch of different attachments that enables it to be very versatile and have many different uses; however, I have found it sort of inconvenient and difficult to use on a regular basis. I cut up vegetables on a daily basis and thought that a mandoline would assist me in cutting my vegetables more evenly. However, it is sort of a hassle to dig out the mandoline and select a blade to use. The blades are not the best and it is somewhat difficult to slice my vegetables especially when it gets to the end pieces. I don't think it's the safest mini appliance to have. I would prefer to have a mandoline that will slice things better than one with different attachments. I also tried to use it to slice a whole block of cheese and again it did not slice it very well nor did it slice it evenly. Although the mandoline was very affordable, it was not very good quality. It was not very easy to assemble and it is somewhat difficult to clean because of the blades that get in the way. It is definitely not for expert cooks.

I LOVE THIS NORPRO MANDOLINE SLICER!

I have been looking for this product for some time and now have it as of last week. I dehydrate apples every year for my family and this product has saved me so much time and effort this time around! With it's really nice blades of varying slice size, hand guard and tilted shelf for easy slicing, I wish I had bought this one years ago. :O) Power The blades are super sharp making a slice through a wonderfully thick and juicy apple a hot knife through butter. The hand guard and veggie/fruit holder also makes the slicing process quick and easy and, since the blades are in the middle of the slicer, I don't have to move the mandoline very often to keep the apples from jamming up on the bottom of it. Safety so far, I feel very safe with the hand guard to protect me from those super sharp blades. It is easy to change out the blades and I feel safe doing that with the way the inserts are designed. Ease of Assembly Super easy to put together, use, clean and store. Love it! Ease of Cleaning Very easy to clean with a brush and hot, soapy water and a drying rack. I don't dare wipe them dry so air drying works for me and makes life easier. Durability I don't know how long the plastic will hold up but at this point, I feel that the product is very durable. I can put a fair amount of pressure down on the guard to advance it and slice the apples without issue so I am very pleased at this point.

I prefer an old-fashioned grater.

This is good for cutting small pieces, like when you reach the end and worry about cutting your fingers. Besides that, I find it very annoying to use. It's very flimsy and slow to use, and made of cheap plastic. I prefer using the old-fashioned steel grater and am more accustomed to using that.

Creates Perfectly Uniform Slices

I hesitated to purchase a mandoline for the longest time for fear of injuring myself on it. I finally purchased this Norpro version and haven't looked back. I just love this mandoline! I was initially concerned about safety but the protector guard keeps your fingers and knuckles well away from the blade or grater. I use this quite often for slicing potatoes for au gratins. I also use it during apple season to produce consistent thickness slices that I then dry in my dehydrator for snacks. It's great because every single slice comes out exactly the same thickness which means that they all dry (or cook) at the same rate. I find this a bit uncomfortable for grating hard cheeses as they tend to get stuck and ruin the flow so I generally use this strictly for slicing. But, as a cheese slicer it does an awesome job! It produces lovely slices that look very pretty on a cheese platter for the holidays. This is a great, inexpensive addition to your kitchen. If you do a lot of slicing you'll fall in love with this!

I like to use this when I make scalloped potatoes. It has several differnt settings. Power This is person powered, so I guess it depends on the strength of the person. Safety The mandolin comes with a poker thing that you are supposed to put onto the ite being sliced so you do not slice your fingers. Ease of Assembly This is very siple to use after you choose what thickness you want your vegtables to be. Ease of Cleaning It is very easy to clean, just make sure you wash in the direction of the blade, not against it or you will slice up your sponge. Durability I have had this product for 3 years.

Mandoline cuts small without cutting your fingers!

We love our mandolin!! It makes great thin cuts for salads, chip making, scalloped potatoes and more!! I always used to cut my fingers with my old grater, but the mandolin with the finger guard has saved my fingers! I love this!! we live in Africa, and this is one of the few kitchen gadgets I have carried over with me.

I'm very happy with this slicer! It has a great, sharp blade which can slice through pretty much anything. The different slicing blades are wonderful, too. I like that you can adjust the thickness so easily - a great feature when slicing lots of different veggies for a vegetable platter or a salad and you want different sizes for different veggies. It seems very well-made. It is sturdy and doesn't bend or flex at all when applying pressure to slice the vegetables. The slicer does NOT allow you to get super thin slices, which is one drawback to the machine. I have only wanted that option once or twice, though, so it hasn't been a major flaw for me. For the low price of this machine, that's something I'm willing to live with. I like how small this slicer is, but I wish there were an easier way to store all the pieces - I find they take up a lot of space in my cupboard just because they spread all over. I would have loved a little box to store the blades ... I bought one to help, but a custom-fit design would have been something I would pay a little more for.

Man, this Mandoline Slicer gets the job done!

I am a lazy in the kitchen. Why slice by hand when this slicer does it for you super quick!! I use it for onions a lot because I hate slicing those and getting burning and teary eyes. This slicer solves that problem. It's super easy to clean and use. The only note I would make would be in regards to using the hand piece to hold the veggie, USE IT. Don't be brave and hold the onion or tomato by hand because you will probably end up with slices of skin in your food. Yuck! Power Uses you to power. Don't worry it's not hard. Safety Safe if you follow directions. Ease of Assembly Good to go within seconds. Ease of Cleaning Not difficult at all. Durability It holds up well. I throw in a big drawer and it's still perfect like new.

Norpro Mandoline Slicer Grater with Guard - I bought mine on amazon. It was a great price in comparison to the other mandolins on there. And it has other attachments... a grater (2 sizes), french fry attachment, juicer, and the mandolin of course. I just barely got it, so I havent had a chance to try out all the attachments, i basically just bought it for the mandolin slicer anyways. The other day i made homemade sweet potato chips using the mandolin slicer to get them really thin. It worked great, especially for the price. I'm sure if you bought a really expensive mandolin, that the blade would be much sharper, but this one definitely gets the job done. I am excited to try out the other attachments as well!
