I have used the 5 hour energy drink several times over the years when I needed to stay awake. Most of the time it has been when I was on a long road trip and needed to drive for several hours at night. The regular formula works great. During the last road trip, I decided to try this caffeine free version. While I felt a little boost, I started feeling tired again after about 2 hours. That never happened to me with the regular formula. The regular formula contains about the same amount of caffeine as one cup of coffee. So I thought this caffeine free version probably wouldn't be much of a change from the regular formula. I was wrong. That little bit of caffeine makes all the difference in the world. I ended up having to stop after about 3 hours of driving and drinking a cup of tea to get some caffeine. I never had to do that after taking the regular 5 hour energy. I would suggest that anyone who is considering taking the 5 hour energy caffeine free stop and buy the regular version instead. The regular version just plain works, the caffeine free version really doesn't work beyond 2 hours.

5 hour energy shots basically got me through the tougher times of college. being relatively inexpensive and rather strong, the energy shot would be great for an in between classes or assignments pick me up. These new reformulated shots without caffeine still provide a boost, but do not quite hit the mark square on the head. Without caffeine, these shots are little more than a multivitamin with B vitamins a plenty. Unfortunately for me and many of those who dwell in the energy drink and energy markets, caffeine loss simply is not an option. Without caffeine, these shots do not have the same effect as their better known cousins, and simply are not worth the money. Likewise, anyone attempting to use these as a weight,loss or workout enhancing choice would be sorely disappointed as the loss of caffeine greatly reduces their usefulness in that respect.
