Hyponex is decent for the price... with addtives
Let me start by saying if it's green, I can kill it. I've never been great with plants, so when I buy a product, I need it to be something that works hard to help me keep a plant alive. If that's what you're looking for, this proablly isn't the product for you. Last year I was thrilled to start a garden with my daughters. I purchased Hyponex with great hopes. It wasn't that expensive, and it seemed like it was selling better than most of the other soils, judging by the amount missing from the shelves. I got it home, and we started a few dozen plants in cardboard egg cartons. I noticed that the soil dried out pretty quickly, and once it dried out, it was hard to get it to absorb water again. I've read since that a cure for that is adding some peat to it. I also noticed a high number of weeds growing among my plants, even before we transfered them outside. Once the plants were in the ground, they really didn't thrive like I had hoped. I have a feeling it's a mix between the soil we used and the soil on our property. We'll be trying again this year, but we're unsure of if we'll try the same soil with peat mixed, or if we'll just switch to a soil with more peat already in it.
