Hyponex is decent for the price... with addtives

Let me start by saying if it's green, I can kill it. I've never been great with plants, so when I buy a product, I need it to be something that works hard to help me keep a plant alive. If that's what you're looking for, this proablly isn't the product for you. Last year I was thrilled to start a garden with my daughters. I purchased Hyponex with great hopes. It wasn't that expensive, and it seemed like it was selling better than most of the other soils, judging by the amount missing from the shelves. I got it home, and we started a few dozen plants in cardboard egg cartons. I noticed that the soil dried out pretty quickly, and once it dried out, it was hard to get it to absorb water again. I've read since that a cure for that is adding some peat to it. I also noticed a high number of weeds growing among my plants, even before we transfered them outside. Once the plants were in the ground, they really didn't thrive like I had hoped. I have a feeling it's a mix between the soil we used and the soil on our property. We'll be trying again this year, but we're unsure of if we'll try the same soil with peat mixed, or if we'll just switch to a soil with more peat already in it.

Works Great

Last fall, I purchased Hyponex Potting Soil for the first time.  I was seriously disappointed with my previous go-to brand, so I thought i would give Hyponex a try.  I'm glad I did and so are my plants.  I start a lot of plants from seed every year and need potting soil to pot up the tiny seedlings in their own tiny containers.  Hyponex couldn't have worked better.  The tiny transplants thrived.  When it was time to plant them into the ground outside, I could believe the amount of root growth I achieved with this potting soil.  Nothing else varied in my routine except the brand of potting soil.  How strange is that?  I know soil is important, but I didn't realize what a difference a change in the brand of soil could make.  My fall garden was off to a roaring start due to this potting soil.  Received my loyalty in one season. Hyponex is cheaper than some of the other brands, but I found it to perform just as well, and in some cases, even better, than the more expensive ones.  For vegetable plants, it is a plus that the soil does not come packed with fertilizer as other brands do.  I prefer having total control over the type and amount of fertilizer my seedlings receive. The only negative I found is that I had to water my plants more often than before.  Perhaps the soil doesn't hold water as well as other brands.

I have used Hyponex Potting Soil in the past, and this is quality potting soil. Compared to Miracle Grow, there is a slight difference, but not as much as you might think. As long as you water and fertilize properly, your plant will look great no matter what potting soil you use. This potting soil is cheaper in price than most, but the quality is still high. Hyponex Potting Soil has a nice texture and it is extremely easy to work with. This potting soil is not going to have the same results as one that has added nutrients, and if a plant is not suited for potting soil, you are obviously not going to have good results, but compared to a potting soil that has no nutrients, this soil is great. As I said before, using a cheaper potting soil is not going to make or break your plant. Your care for it and knowledge of your plant will be the ultimate reasons your plant is unsuccessful or successful. Get out and grow some plants!

I have had very good results with hyponex overall.

However, just wondering if anyone else has experienced really dark (almost black) drainage water when watering house plants.  Last two 20 lb. bags both exhibited this for the first time since I've been using over 10 years. pw

Not worth what I thought was a bargain

I live on a clay hill and spent all last fall digging out an 8 x 8 hole to fill with dirt so I can start a vegetable garden. I bought the cheap dirt, Hyponex, because it was cheap and I needed a lot of dirt. I bought between 30-40 bags and still need more. I made due this summer and planted tomatoes and bell peppers and watermelons and chayenne peppers early this year and the plants didn't really do anything for half the year. I tried watering and hoeing nearly every day and this helped but still my plants just hovered right on the verge of really growing and producing. I was then told by a friend that it was the soil and bought some fertilizer and only then did the plants start producing flowers. Now its so late in the season I don't expect much. The potting soil always had a way of drying quickly almost to a fine sandy powder and then repelling water when it first hit it. It doesn't hold much water and requires water everyday or at least every other day. I wish I had spent the extra money on the better soil.

Hyponex has helped me bring plants back from the brink of death.

Hyponex potting soil is really good stuff. I use it every-time I have to re-pot my house plants and when I am planting flowers outside. It gives a soft and healthy area for my plants to start their new "lives". I do not have to worry about my plants being compacted and not having a safe place to grow. The only real complaint I have is that it does not come with moisture control, however for the price I can't complain too much. I have used this product for several years and I know that my grandmother and mother used it also. I like that it comes in bags that are big enough to get the job done and yet there is a smaller bag for that touch up that all plants need. I am happy with the product and would give it to my friends to help them get started with any type of planting projects that they might start. I would also suggest this to someone in the store if they were looking to get a bag of potting soil and did not know what to get. We have had several successful years with our garden because of Hyponex potting soil and I don't see us using anything else to make our garden grow. The materials in the Hyponex soil are really good quality and they don't clump up as some of the other soils that we have tried in the past. I am happy with the quality and consity of this product. I have even sent bags of this soil to my childerns school so that it could be used in projects for science and other things.

I myself would definately buy this product over and over again. I would tell my friends and family about this product. Hyponex Potting Soil just happens to be one of my favorite potting soil on the market right now. Not only does it have great texture, but it spreads very well and goes a long way, but it is also cheap. the cheaper the product is and you like it, the more of it that you can buy. It is easy to work with , and is much better than using dirt off of the side of the moutain as I have done before. It does the things that I need the product to do for me. It dries very well and quick for me unlike a lot of potting soils that I have purchased in the past. I only wish that the companys who sells the product would come out with some type of a mulch to go along with the potting soil.So then I could gewt both products a very cheap price. I spend a least 500.00 a year on potting soil alone, that is not counting the mulch so the cheaper the better.

I have always had to use the cheaper potting soil.  I have used the more expensive potting soil one summer, but I didn't like the reusults.  I thinik hyponex potting soil is a better product than others.  I will always this brand.

No reason to pay more

Hyponex potting soil is very good.  Sometimes you do not need to pay for more expensive brands when a perfectly adequate alternative is available.  I have had no problems with this product and will buy it again.

Hyponex makes great potting soils

I have always used hyponex potting soils. I love that they have differnt mixes for different plant types. I love growing african violets and cacti and hyponex make blends that work well for these special plant types. That makes it easier for me to find success in growing these plant types.      I also use their all purpose soild for my other plants, herbs and vegetables. Over the years I enjoyed the success I have found with using their potting soils and I would definitely recommend any of their potting soils and other products. They have certainly been a well trusted company by me and my family. I learned of this brand from my mother using it.      When it comes to potting soil for any kind of use, they definitely carry the best selections and the best quality of soils. Bad potting soild can be quite costly if they do not work, so for this it is definitely worth paying for. No doupt..
