Great size touchscreen laptop.

5

I really like this little laptop. So far we've gotten 3 used ones from eBay - HP doesn't make them anymore. The touchscreen is great for writing and for using photo editing and drawing programs. It is not too large nor too small. Support & Service Cannot really comment on support and service as it is discontinued and I have not contacted HP with any issues.

Good little computer, with some flaws

4

I am a college student so having a laptop is very useful. I bought this laptop specifically for its tablet abilities since I am able to draw figures in class. It can draw fine, except the touch is also sensitive to your palm and can affect your drawing. The screen also has a grainy look to it, and isn't that clear. It is okay though since if you were doing graphics work, you wouldn't want a reflection of your face on the screen anyway (but I'm not sure that a graphic artist would purchase this computer anyway and would just get a real tablet). The fan from the AMD processor can get quite loud, so if you are in a conference room or meeting, it is probably best to turn off any process that can cause your computer to be over 30% CPU usage. Since the computer is running 64-bit, you should be aware that your computer will be significantly slower since many programs still run 32-bit, but your computer will automatically allocate the 64bit space for the program, hence a slower computer. Also, I am not so big a fan of the 6 cell battery that sticks out since finding a laptop sleeve for this little guy is impossible. I think HP should sell sleeves for their tablet pcs, rather than focusing all of their time on making accessories for netbooks. The laptop is a nice size, though. It is small and portable, yet you don't have to sacrifice a disc drive, a full size keyboard, or have an Intel Atom processor if you were to downgrade to a netbook. I also wish the swivel were 360 degrees, because there really are instances where having it rotate only one way can be inconvenient and almost pointless since I have to lift and turn my laptop if I wanted to show the screen to someone in a different direction. The computer also runs Windows 7 if you decide to upgrade, although I would recommend flashing the new ROM prior to installation. (I upgraded because Vista was just so slow on this laptop!!!) Re-installing the webcam also required more work since the HP support site did not provide working program downloads. But for all of my superficial complaints, this is a good, cheap laptop for all of the features it offers. EDIT EDIT EDIT UPDATE: This laptop is no longer properly functioning after about 1.5 years. What a short lifetime for this to happen. Basically, the computer cannot power up if the computer has been on for a while--so much for putting your computer to sleep, because it won't wake up. The screen just stays black and two lights flash, meaning something is wrong with the CPU. If I don't touch the computer for a few days or so, it will be able to power back up. One of the problems I also found when inspecting my laptop, which I take amazing care of because it WAS my baby, was that the memory was loosely inserted and persistantly fell off. This is probably an attribute to HP as a manufacturer. This is also why their computers are a little cheaper than other brands--their build is weak. Ease of Use Generally easy. The cursor has an odd habit of flying across the screen for no reason though. Battery Life Not amazing, but it will get you through an hour 30 minutes of class if your wifi is off. Design The battery sticking out is a real eyesore and makes it difficult to find a sleeve to fit. The rest of the design is cute. Durability My laptop died within a year and a half. How awful!

HP Touchsmart is the easiest PC to use - anyone can use this!

I bought the HP touchsmart for my brother.  He runs a constuction company and has NO typing skills, NO computer skills and NO patience! His main prioroity is of course the field work.  He needed a quick and easy way to connect with the engineers and owners who are used to using a computer to communicate.  This PC has a digitizer pen that converts handwriting into text.  Just write a note and the pen converts it into text.  The screen swivels and flips down over the keyboard so it's like writing on a pad of paper.  The small size makes it easy to take to the job and the powerful processor makes it easy to use more than one program at a time.  Other laptops pale in comparrison!  I recommend this to anyone who wants to get their "computer business" done quickly and get back to your "real business".

Best Laptop I've Ever Owned

5

I am a software trainer. I have to travel a lot for my work. I love this laptop. I need to carry it everywhere with me, and it is lightweight and convenient. My company bought this laptop for me because some of the software I train has tablet applications, but I also use it for the regular desktop applications that I train and for all my personal computer usage. I keep up on facebook, play games on Pogo, download photos from my camera card, take care of my email, do my work and even use it to watch movies on the TVs in my hotel rooms (I had to buy a AV cord for this). I have owned it for over 2 years now and taken it on more than 30 flights. One of my favorate things is that I can open word, flip the screen around and literally write my reports when waiting in airports and have my writing inserted in as typed text. I've never had a problem with the laptop until about 4 months ago when it got infected with a pretty bad virus (happens to all computers), at that time our IT department upgraded me to Window 7 from the Vista that came with it. I couldn't have been happier the last 4 months, this laptop works very well with Windows 7. I noticed that the projection of the battery at the back is listed as a con, I have not found it to be so. I have to remove my laptop from my bag everytime I go through airport security and the battery is a very good handle that I can grab and quickly pull the laptop out of my bag.

HP's TouchSmart is a great computer!

I think that this computer rivals the ipad or other tablet devices since it has the benefits of both Windows, a full keyboard, disk drive, and other features. One downside is that it runs on Vista, but there are no other real problems.

Great for school!

I used a tablet in high school (long story but provided by the school) and I became addicted!  A tablet is the BEST computer to have for math classes-- you can write all the symbols and Greek letters without having to go to "insert: symbol" every single time. Also, this computer helps keep me super organized. I've always been an A/B student but I have also always had a problem with keeping track of all my notes and work for more than a week. Using a computer that I can take notes on for EVERY class, including math, let's me keep absolutely all of my notes and work in the same place. Now that it's final exam time, this computer is saving me a massive amount of time by not having to dig through my entire room finding all the random notes and quizzes I took throughout the semester.  In comparison with my high school tablet (which was also HP), this computer has some updated features, physically, like the location of the speakers and housing for the stylist, that I think make this TouchSmart a much more functional and user-friendly tablet. There are a couple downsides. (1) The battery life sucks. On the "power saver" setting and with only a couple applications running, I can get my TouchSmart to last three hours. With the screen brightness up and while I'm just messing around, watching my tv shows, I can only get about two hours before my computer dies. Three hours is usually plenty to get me through a couple lectures but to study, I definitely have to leave it plugged in, which is usually not a huge deal. (2) This computer runs ridiculously slow when you first get it, at least compared to the computers I was used to using (both PC's and Mac's). This wasn't too hard to fix, though. I try to run all the "suggested" updates, keep my anti-virus program updated and run it regularly. This helps tremendously. I also installed a faster internet browser to help with the slow internet speed I was getting with the browser that came on my computer.    Overall, the problems are little and completely fixable. I love my computer and I don't know how I got through first semester without it!

The TouchSmart laptop computer is full of awsome features!

This is the first laptop I have ever owned, but is by far the best computer I have owned. I love a the little features such as the remote for controling movies or other videos. The remote can even turn off the computer itself. If you are a person that takes alot of pictures with a digital camera this is good laptop for you because of the sd card reader and photo program that comes with the package. If you like to edit your pictures you can fold down the screen to make it into a tablet and use the attached pen. This is also good for taking notes or writing notes and emails for people that are not good at typing, because you can use the pen to write and then incert what you have written onto the notepad or email. If you like to burn music cds or movie dvds you can do that as well and with the optional lightscribe you can burn custom pictures onto the tops of the discs. The built in webcam with mircophone is one of my favorite features, which I use a lot to talk to friends and family that live far away. If any of this sounds good to you then the Touchsmart laptop is a good investment for you, I know it was for me, just try to keep it out of reach of small children... I wish I had, but I only need to replace a few keys.

The touchsmart tx2 is one of the best latops hp has come up with, As HP's first multitouch convertible tablet, it's got a lot of potential. One of the best Functions that this computer has is that it can be easily be converted into a tablet and it comes with it's own pen, and comes with it's own remote control. I'm convinced of this laptop I'm buying one next week and I'm going to have fun with it I totally recommended. one of the cons some people said that the motherboard stops working  after 13 months so i Suggest that if you are going to buy this computer buy a warranty just in case something happens with technology you never know. I hope this review helps you make a decision thank you for reading. I'll tell later how does it goes with my computer. if you don't like this review yor welcome to look for a second opinion there are more people that provaly has more to say about this computer.

Great tablet PC, especially for students

4

One of the main reasons I chose this computer was its size.  I previously had a large 15-inch laptop and I personally much rather have a smaller, more portable one.  This fits easily in laptop cases or backpacks, which makes it all the more useful. Battery life seems good.  I usually plug it in whenever I am able to, so I have not done extensive battery testing.  It has different profile settings, one of which is designed to save battery life, which is always helpful when you are away from a power socket.   One problem that I have faced from time to time is that the keyboard, touch pad, and biometric fingerprint reader will sometimes fail.  Even pressing the caps lock button will not turn on the indicator light.  In order to fix this, turn the computer off.  With the AC disconnected and the battery removed, hold the power switch in the "on" position for about thirty seconds.  (This essentially clears the circuits of static electricity that is interfering with the computer.)  After this, the problem should be solved for quite some time, until it randomly decides to do it again.
