Ever since I was a kid, my mother used to put baking soda in the fridge to remove odors.  Naturally when I bought my own home, I followed suit.  The baking soda worked for a week or so and then after that, the odors started returning.  I started searching on the Internet for other alternatives to the traditional baking soda.  I found several testimonials about Fridge-It Fridge Odor Absorber and they all praised this little gadget.  Linens N' Things had this online for $3.99 so I purchased two.  One for the fridge and one for the freezer.  Turns out, this is quite an effective little gadget.  Goodbye baking soda!

Fridge-It Odor Absorber

According to the manufacturer, Fridge-It® Activated Charcoal Odor Absorbers work on the technology of nature's best odor-absorbing material - charcoal - as an extremely effective odor absorber. They claim they utilize a patented porous process to activate it and that their products are specifically formulated to trap and neutralize odors.

The manufacturer also claims that independent tests reveal that the activated charcoal absorbs more effectively than even baking soda and lasts longer as well.

My Experience

I hung one of the Fridge-It's in my refrigerator and one in my freezer.  I sometimes have open cans of cat food in the fridge and the tuna smell stinks up the whole place.  I even have a top on it but it doesn't seem to block the odor. Within hours of hanging the Fridge-It, the odor was gone.  I was really pleased with the fast results.  The bright purple color was a bit tacky looking but not a big deal since it hangs way in the back of the fridge.

The ice cubes in my freezer no longer have that ... taste.  I can't explain the exact taste but I think most people know what I am talking about.  Fridge-It claimed to help make ice taste fresher and it did.

After about 5 months, I did notice that the smells were slowly seeping back into the fridge and realized it was time to replace it.  It didn't last the full 6 months, but close enough for me.

I went to Linens N' Things and purchased several more.  I now also have one hanging by the cat litter box and one under the sink where we keep our recyclables.

My Final Viewpoint

Fridge-It Fridge Odor Absorber is an inexpensive and effective product that I would and have bought again.  I recommend it and am giving it a 4 star rating.  I would give it 5 but because of the tacky color and the fact that it didn't last the full six months, I removed a star.

I too am a big fan of this little odor absorber. FRIDGE IT is by far the best odor eliminator that I have used for my fridge and also many other areas around the house. Recently discovered it works great in an old hope chest. Just threw a couple in and musty odor gone. Everyone should have these in their homes.

I agree, t worked for me. I found it at Walmart in the kitchen section back wall and it did a great job. Plus I liked the purple color and I can't beat the price. I use them in my smelly shoes at night and works great with some pet smells. I will try your suggestion about the ice,,,hate that taste.

Nicely done Laurie. Is it really any better than baking soda?
