The only gel for me!

By

Comments about DevaCurl AnGEL Light Hold Defining Gel:

I have very curly hair that tends to frizz, so I've always worn it short. I grew it out several years ago, but the only reason I'm able to keep it manageable is Deva Curl gel. I use it when my hair is very wet, then twist my hair into ringlets. I pull the ringlets apart after my hair is dry. My hair is not frizzy anymore thanks to this wonderful product! It holds my curls without making them look wet. It also smells nice. The only negative to this product is that it's very expensive. I started going to a new stylist several months ago, and she does not use Deva Curl products, she uses Bumble and Bumble. When she gets done styling my hair, it is very frizzy. I would not keep my hair long if I couldn't use Deva Curl products. I also use the Low Poo Shampoo and the One Condition conditioner. Regular shampoo dries my hair out, but the Low Poo Shampoo does not have sulfates in it. This is a great line of products.

A bit of a learning curve

By

Comments about DevaCurl AnGEL Light Hold Defining Gel:

I finally found a hairdresser that knows how to manage curly hair, thanks to the Deva Curl method. I'm so, so thankful that someone is finally teaching stylists how to deal with this totally unique type of hair.
For a method that's so great, it's a shame their products are lacking. I've tried the No Poo, the One Condition and now this Angel Light. None are showing themselves to be worth the price, especially compared to the Pantene I've been using.
In terms of styling, I'm used to the gels, mousses and creams that need to be run through my hair. With this, according to my stylist, it shouldn't be run through. It's meant more to coat the hair to block out frizz. So that's been an awkward change. It's also important to wait for your hair to dry all the way before scrunching or fluffing. I do like that they encourage the scrunch to remove any crunchy feel. Any other gel that leaves a crunch gets ruined/frizzed if you play with it.
Basically: It's okay, not amazing, and there's plenty of better stuff for a lower price.

Natural hold without too much crunch

By

from Newcastle, WA

Comments about DevaCurl AnGEL Light Hold Defining Gel:

I have curly curly hair that is also quite frizzy, especially on a windy/rainy day. To combat this I either 1) put a ton of product on my hair in an attempt (which usually fails) to maintain control or 2) put my hair in a ponytail. I have tried all number of gels which tend to weigh down my curls and still let the frizz come through. Plus, they leave my hair with that annoying crunch. The DevaCurl AnGEL Light Hold Defining Gel is my solution. I put it on my hair right after I shower. I follow the directions on the bottle, which is what I was doing anyways, which was to flip my hair upside down and scrunch the gel into my curls. I tend to have a problem with trying to fix my hair as it dries which means it comes out frizzy regardless of what product I use, so I diffuse my hair. This gel is amazing. There is definite hold to my curls with only the tiniest bit of crunch. However, I scrunched that out of my hair once it was dry and it holds very nice! I definitely recommend it to those with curly hair!

Soft natural looking curls without the crunch

By

from Macedon, NY

Comments about DevaCurl AnGEL Light Hold Defining Gel:

I started getting body waves in my fine lifeless hair and had to find a product that would hold my waves and curls without making my hair crunchy. I bought a travel sized kit of the whole Deva Curl line and I love it! It took awhile to figure out the perfect amount for my hair but now I have great waves all day long! I highly recommend searching youtube for DevaCurl videos for really helpful tips on using their products. I found this gel works best if your hair is still fairly wet and you do have to use quite a bit. My hair is a few inches below my shoulders and fine but I still end up using at least a quarter sized glob. I run it through my hair and then scrunch. Once my hair is completely dry, I scrunch it again otherwise it stays "crunchy." As long as my hair is dry when I scrunch the second time my curls and waves hold all day and stay shiny. I'm not a big fan of the smell of their No Poo product but I love the smell of the gel. It reminds me of ripe concord grapes!

DevaCurl Angel is Great for Updos, Too light otherwise

By

from Bethesda, MD

Comments about DevaCurl AnGEL Light Hold Defining Gel:

The DevaCurl Angel Gel is a good product for curly hair, but the hold is too light to use everyday. I use the Angel gel after I condition with DevaCurl One C to slick my hair back into a ponytail. I also use it on the hair that sticks out of the ponytail holder. It tames my curls without leaving it sticky or crunchy, leaving a very nautral look. When I use it this way my curls form nice ringlets and are very shiny. There is no buildup or flakes with this product. It also has a nice light scent.

However it is does not have enough hold to use on days that I wear my hair down. My hair begins to grow out and gets a bit poufy. I recommend buying the trial size as a little goes a long way and mine has lasted for over two months. Overall I think this is a great product for taming curly hair when you are wearing it up, but there are better products for when you are wearing it down. I will continue to buy.
